iphone 3GS just shutdown without warning and will not turn on?
do a reset, hold down the home/power button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

my iphone 3gs was fully charged i went to my girlfriends house in the morning and it was working fine all day around 3 oclock it suddenly just off and went black i tried the "cold boot" that didnt work i tried charging it in the wall and with my computer i tried to restore my phone but itunes wont recognize it ive also tried holding the home and power button simultaneously waiting 10 sec while it is plugged into the computer releasing the home button and waiting foritunes to ask me to restore my iphone but even that doesnt work please someone help me

If nothing helps, you need to contact Verizon for information for an exchange or refund. This is a user to user forum, not Apple.
Apple's policy for a refund or exchange is within 14 days of purchase. Verizon's policy may be different.
Definitely try restoring .. hopefully you won't have to go through the hassle of an exchange. -
Hello , recently i gave it a update to my Iphone 3gs to a 6.1.3 version . then try to activate the phone and did not work. and has no signal . i connect to WiFi but get a message that says activation server is unavalible . Please hel me on that . what i can do . thanks

Hi everyone,
my iPhone is just absolutely dead. I was literally using it one second, put it in my pocket and pulled it out again 5 seconds later and the screen wouldn't turn on. It's not just the screen because I've had my friend call it and there is no activity. I have put it on a charger, plugged it to my computer, tried resetting by holding the top button, but nothing happens. I didn't do anything to warrent it dying like this like dropping it or spilling liquid on it. What can I do??

CarlI don't know how, but my phone has started taking a charge for some reason, and it was not by rebooting. I left it over night hooked up to my computer (even though it was asleep) when I turned on my computer this morning the iPhone indicated that it was being charged by the computer, which is the first sign of life I've seen from it since I've had this problem. And as for your solution, I tried rebooting, and it didn't work. Thanks for your help though.

i cleaned the charger port . nothingAssuming your iPhone is well charged, place it in recovery mode as described here. You may have to try this more than once to succeed.

Hi, I desperately need your help!
When the battery on my iphone runs out, the device, naturally, turns off. But even though I plug it into my charger - nothing happens; the screen is blank and stays like that for some hours, even a day long. I then, of course, try everything - plug it into different sockets, laptop, try taking out the sim card - anything - just to wake it up somehow, but it doesn't react. Then miraculosly, it starts charging as usual - never on its own, but only when I re-plug it! And then it's as if nothing happened!
Has anyone had this problem? Is there a reasonable explanation or should I reclaim my iphone?

1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
If no change, continue:
2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
If no change, continue:
3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store. -
The phone is physically intact, but you can see the LCD is cracked behond the glass. I have tried plugging it in, tried putting it on the charger, and resetting it using the off and home buttons, bit response. I don't need the phone to work, but I do need to be bale to back it up in order to restore to the new phone. Is there any way to extract the data or back up the hard drive without repairing the phone? Just curious what my options are before I spend cash trying to fix the phone and find out there was another way to get the data. Any thoughts here or should a good repair shop being able to create a backup somehow?
Im not going to be much help because I don't know of anything else to besides take it somewhere that fixes electronics and see if they can get it off some how maybe if you take it to an apple store they can do something to get your information.

Hard boot doesn't help, could it be the battery that is dead? I had to charge it 5 times a day for some weeks before it died..
It won't charge, or connect to iTunes, and since it had to be charged 5 times a day for it to make it through ONE day, I'm thinking that it might be that the battery is just 100% dead..
Could it be something like that?
I have tried hard Boot by holding the home and powerbutton for 15 sec and more, and tried charging it in the wall for 1 hour and tried again, still nothing..Its the integrated charging circuit..
but before jumping conclusions change the battery..only takes 2 minutes need a pentalobe scredriver for the two bottom screws phillips microdriver and a 10dollar battery, the screwdrivers are like 5 dollars and in some cases they will come with the battery (ebay)! -

When you purchase content in the app store, you purchase a license to use the content. This license does not permit you or anyone else to resell or give this content away. The individual you purchased the phone from simply does not have the right to sell or give away any purchased content on the phone. You were deceived.

It was never free for the 3GS.
It is if the initial sign-up is done on an iPhone 4, iPad or iPod touch 4th gen.

QUESTIONS: I have an iphone 3gs.just updating to ios5. am at the stage where I chose to restore iphone via itunes. sync seems stuck at step 7 of 7: syncing artwork. Is this necessary and if not how do I get around it?
When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive. It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas? I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.
