HT1688 iphone 5 shutting down when battery is at 49% after iOS 7 update

I am having some problems with this new ios 7. After my phone hits 49%, it shuts down to the point that I have to connect my charger in order to restart it. Once I connect the charger, it starts right away. I tried a hard reset  and it didnt work. I tried setting it up as new iphone and nothing. Apple hasnt aknolewdge this as a problem but there are hundreds of cases out there. Does anyone knows any solution for this or am I going to have to wait for a new update?

I'd just like to say that ahs70's post on Dec 1, 2013 at 1:17am on Pg. 9 worked for me as well: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5338609?start=120&tstart=0
If your iPhone's battery is acting up you need to determine if it's a software issue or a hardware/battery issue.  To do that, after syncing your iPhone, erase/hard reset all data and settings from your iPhone to what it was from the factory as new.  This can be found in Settings/General/Reset/Erase All Content and Settings.  Then test it out for a day or two.  If it's still acting up then it's likely a hardware issue and you will need to get your battery replaced.  If your warranty is done than check out this link to get a battery kit to replace your iPhone battery yourself:  http://www.ifixit.com/Store/iPhone/iPhone-5-Replacement-Battery/IF118-001#produc tDescription
If your iPhone is now working properly after hard resetting it than it's most likely a software issue.  This battery issue only started after upgrading to the new iOs7, so it is obviously related to the update not properly installing itself.  What has worked for me and many others is to manually update to iOS 7.0.4 using the full downloaded version of the update which is about 1.32 Gigs.
But first you need to find out what model of iPhone you have, click here to determine if it's GSM or CDMA: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Then go here and scroll down to download the iOS 7.0.4 complete update for your device:  http://www.downloadios7.org/download-ios-7-0-4-ipsw-file.html
Then scroll up on the download page and follow the instructions of updating your iPhone manually following the instructions below:  "IPSW with iTunes"
And your done.
Problem solved.
I only posted this because it was a very frustrating problem that no one really seemed to figure out a solution for.
I hope this helps.

  • Why does my iphone 3gs shut down when battery gets to 80%?  have installed new battery and nothing changes?

Why does my iphone 3gs shut down when battery shows 80%.  a couple of months ago is shut down at 60% but has continually gotten worse.  this was before 5.0.  i took it to a repair man and he tried a used battery, a new battery, and the original battery.  nothing helped.  5.01 didnt help either.  What is my problem?

Fully discharge the battery (till it shuts down and won't turn on) and then fully recharge it (100%).  This will recalibrate the battery meter.  You may need to do this a few times.

  • Iphone 5 shuts down when battery life still shows 10% left

Install iOS7 on iphone 5 and the device will power down sometimes when it still shows 10-20% battery life then not power back on, while displaying that it should be plugged in. Also the phone will sometimes jump from 20% life down to something like 1-3% on the indicator  in mere seconds and powers off shortly thereafter.
Basically the phone gets down to what shows as 20% battery life and may shut down at any point after that....

This could be because the battery has not been properly calaberated try the link below. http://www.apple.com/nz/batteries/iphone.html

  • Iphone 4s shuts down when it battery life gets to about 17%. prior to IOS 7 it would shut down at about 1%. What's up? (Oh, when I plug in recharge, the battery indicates it's at 17% or so. So, I'm not referring to battery drain).

My iPhone 4s shuts down when battery indicater reaches about 17%. When I recharge, indicater shows about 17%, so apparently this isn't fast battery drain. Oh, this happens since IOS7.

See if your phone is one that Apple has noted as requiring a replacement battery: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone5-battery/

And when trying to turn it on appears on the screen there is a need to plug in (to charge).
After connecting to charger (after 5 seconds or so) the device turns on as if nothing had happened, and continues to work regular

That might occur if you're using the iPhone in low temperatures as the battery decharges quickly in lower temps. If you're using the phone at a normal room temperature I have no idea why your phone shuts off at as high as 20%. Also, if you use your phone in too high temperature areas the battery lifespan will decrease. The more you
Anyway, at least one time a month you should run the iphone down to 0% (or as low as you can go) and then completly charge it. Don't do any 5 minute charges, just go from what ever percent you're at and run it down to zero then recharge to full.

  • IPhone 5 keeps shutting down when battery is stating good battery strength.

My iPhone 5 has been regularly shutting down when the battery percentage is showing random charge. Sometimes it shuts down at 20% and the highest has turned off at is 73%. It then says battery is empty and needs recharging, but when phone turns on again it says the battery percentage that it turned off at. Today, the phone was charging for 6 hours and it still said the battery was empty. It finally turned on after another 6 hours but battery said 26%.   Is this just a need for a new battery or something more seriously wrong with phone?

  • IPhone 4s shuts down with battery at 50%

After upgrading to iOS 8.1, my iPhone 4s suddenly shows battery at 1% then shuts down when the battery hits around 50%. If I plug it into a charger, it will show around 50% charged, but after several minutes of use it will do the disappearing power trick again. I have tried a restore to no avail.

Sorry about tthe triple posting. Apple's website was responding strangely and not indicating that I had posted.

  • Ipad shuts down when battery is at 20%, since updating to 7.0.4

I've read a few posts about battery issues and I've tried everything from battery saving tips, to resets, to restoring my ipad. Nothing is working. My sister also has an ipad 2 and has exactly the same issue except hers shuts down at 35-45%. This is only since updating to iOS 7, possibly only since iOS 7.0.4.
Can anyone help? Apple? Why can't we roll back a version any more?
My ipad is out of warranty and I don't want to pay for a new battery when it seems to me to be a software issue...
    All replies appreciated.

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Macbook only shuts down when battery is flat and date and time revert to 2008

    Hey Guys
My Macbook only shuts down when the battery goes flat.
When I switch it back on everything seems to be fine though the date and time are incorrect. Seems to go to default date which is 2008.
Other things seem to affect my browser, Facebook won't login properly and certain websites seem to propmt that the website can't be trusted, which is strange because gmail is one of them and should be fine.
Appreciate all the help from you cyber friendly folks!
    My system specs
    2.2 Ghz
    4GB
    MAC OS X Version 10.6.8

To answer your questions in sequence:
    1) You can't, really: the symptoms your Mac is exhibiting point at a loose or next-to-dead back-up battery. Only way to find out is to test it, and to do that, you must open your machine, locate the battery and test it with a battery tester (see here for more info on how to open your Mac; make sure to select the right model)
    2) It's actually the opposite: when you must use your Mac on the battery, well, then, do it, but if you're sitting at your desk, or, like me, on your sofa, with your MBP on your lap, simply keep it plugged into the main.
An additional measure to preserve your battery, that applies less to the recent Unibody design, but is helpful for ealier adopters of the MacBook Pro: don't leave your machine plugged in when it's turned off; it prevents a slow, natural depletion of the battery, and will play against you in the long run.
Last but not least: battery calibration is required once a month for older MacBook Pro models (non-Unibody, basically). If your machine belongs to that era kids the age of Justin B. don't even imagine ever existed, check here.

  • IPhone 3GS Shuts Down when receiving a call

My wife's iPhone 3GS has an odd problem - sometimes - but not always - when an incoming call comes in the phone shuts down. The phone doesn't ring (or vibrate) it immediately shuts down to the power off state - and it's only after a while that I realise the phone is off - later I find out someone tried to call.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
    It's a 32GB 3GS on the latest firmware 3.1.2 (7D11) and 05.11.07.

I'm having exactly the same issue with my iphone, and same specs. It's a new work phone so discussed with IT manager. She advised returning it so it could be sent back for repair. Would be interested if you have heard of any other fixes as not keen to be without the phone, although that needs to weighed against the fact it randomly shuts down when a call comes in!

  • IBook G4 1.42 GHz shut down when battery storage is lower than 60%

    Hello everybody.
My iBook G4 has been used for 10 month and updated to OSX 10.4.6. Three days ago, it shut down immediately without any warning. After this experience, I checked the battery information at two situation:
    Battery is charged:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 2946
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 2935
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 16615
    Cycle Count: 189
    Battery is about 60% storage:
    Battery Installed: Yes
    First low level warning: No
    Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 2946
    Remaining Capacity (mAh): 1764
    Amperage (mA): -1825
    Voltage (mV): 15438
    Cycle Count: 189
I am sure that the voltage and remaining capacity of the battery before the sudden shutting down are reasonable, just like what you can see above, and the LED indicator on the battery sitll indicates 3 green light.
I have already reset the PRAM ,NVRAM, and PMU successfully, but the sudden shutting down still exists. If the AC power is plugged, everything will be ok.
Can someone resolve my problem? Please forgive my poor English. Thanks a lot.
    iBook G4 1.42GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.5 GB ram

Try another battery. Since you have calibrated your battery weekly, it may need to be replaced. (Apple recommends monthly calibration.)
The typical lifespan of a lithium-ion battery is two to three years. Some last a bit longer, but some don't last that long, either.
It may just be that your battery needs to be replaced.
From that Apple page on batteries:
A properly maintained Apple notebook battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity after 300 full charge and discharge cycles.
Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner of the display. When the information box pops up, click on "More Info…" The System Profiler will appear. Click on the Hardware disclosure triangle (if necessary). Click on Power. See how many cycles your battery has used to determine if your battery may be eligible for replacement under warranty. If it has less than 80% of its original capacity with 300 or fewer charge cycles used, you may have a case for asking for a replacement battery without cost to you.
    Good luck.

I tried deleting and reinstalling the apps that are causing the crashes but that didn't work.
