For 2 years my phone has worked fine but now I am not receiving any sound to notify me of phone calls or messages. I have checked all the settings and cannot determine why this has happened. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you checked the Mute switch on the side...
iPhone User Guide (For iOS 6 Software)
By the way... your Tag states you have iOS 6.1.4
This is Only compatible with the iPhone 5.

am receiving no sound alerts either outgoing or incoming. Any help gratefully received

Is the device on mute?  Check the switch above the volume controls on the side of the device.  If you see a red dot, it's on mute.
Otherwise, basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • IPhone making strange sound when receive all types of message.

I've bought my iPhone 4S last week and it started making a really strange sound when receiving all sorts of messages (e-mail, whatsapp, sms). The sound is the sound I selected for each one but it loops 4 or 5 times everytime! What can it be?

If no change after powering your iPhone off and on, try an iPhone reset, which is done by pressing and holding the home button and the sleep/wake or on/off button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo and then release - ignoring the slide to turn off prompt when doing so. An iPhone reset does not affect any data or settings.

  • TS2755 No sound when receiving txts...

I have noticed after the last two updates I have no sound when receiving my txt messages.
Not sure if I have done something wrong...
    Thankful for any help...

No, you can't get rid of the sending sound.
If you have your text tone set to "none", you will receive no audible notification and no vibration. The work around would be to install a custom ringtone that is just silence and set the text to that. You wouldn't here anything but you'd still feel the vibration if you've turned that setting on.

  • Script for no sound when receiving spam

Hi there, I'm looking for a script for Apple Mail that shuts off sound when a message that's labeled as spam comes in. I have several e-mail accounts running in Apple Mail. It happens often that while checking for new mail only spam comes in. It would be great if the notification stays silent in that case. Any ideas? TIA.

EITHER YOUR RINGER IS NOT ON OR YOU HAVE GONE INTO SETTINGS AND TURNED SOUNDS DOWN THERE HOPE THIS HELPS

anyone with a fix, please help.

This sounds like a well-known problem which has been discussed over in the Mail discussions for quite a long time.

Search there and on Google to see the variety of possible causes and fixes. Here is what appears to be a common cause and possible fix (which worked for me):

  • HT201412 Why my new iPad Notification center does not play sound when receiving notifications.

Why my new ipAd Notification center does not play sound when receiving notifications.

    1. Double-click the Home button and swipe Task Bar to the right
    2. Check the volume and mute settings

Why my new ipad Notification center does not play sound when receiving notifications.

Settings>Notifications .... Did you set up the various apps to receive notifications?
    Do have system sounds muted?
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • My iphone will not vibrate or make a sound when receiving a text message

for some reason since yesterday, my Iphone will not vibrate or make a sound when I receive a normal or Imessage text message.
I double checked that vibration works in general and it does. so does the sound file for the Text tone.
My ringer works fine as well as vibration for incoming calls but nothing works with a normal text message (even whatsapp works fine).
I have no idea what could be the issue here.
    Any ideas?

    - Unmute your phone
    - Set your Ringtone to default
    - Adjust your volume
    - If you're on iOS6 - DO NOT DISTURB feature turn it OFF
    Try again

  • No sound when receiving a text

Since the most recent update my Galaxy S3 does not make any sound upon receiving texts.  I've tried all sorts of sounds and none work.  It will vibrate, but absolutely no sound.  I've restarted, shut down... no help.  I tried downloading new sounds.  Any more ideas?

I am having this issue ever since the update.  I had my 3 year old's voice sweetly saying message when I got a message and now - nothing!  I never know if I've gotten a message!!!  I can't access the settings  - causes instant crash.  Messaging constantly crashes either way too.
Messaging is probably THE most important feature of a phone.  For that to not be working - this is a SERIOUS problem.  I can't believe they forced such a buggy firmware update on the users!!!!

  • New mail doesn't make the "new mail sound" when received

Hi! I have a .mac email account, and I use two different aliases for the account. I want all the mail sent to one of the aliases to go into a designated mailbox. I've tried doing this with both a smart mailbox and using a rule to move the messages to a mailbox on my .mac account (not both at the same time, I've tried it separately both ways).
Both of these options work, except that mail will not make the "new mail" sound when I get a new email for that mailbox. Even when I add to the rule that it should make a sound, it doesn't. Other mail (i.e., all of my other mail that is delivered normally to my inbox) is not affected--I still get the normal sound. Any ideas? Thanks! (And BTW, I always give points for helpful answers!)

    You’re welcome.
Actually, I don’t participate here just to be helpful. I also do it to learn. I know WAY more about Mail now than I knew when I started helping people here... and without having experienced myself any of the problems I troubleshoot each and every day...
    I really wanted an answer.
That’s precisely why you shouldn’t say in advance that you’ll give points. Nobody is going to assume you won’t, so there is no need to say you will. All you have to do is mark posts when appropriate (without saying in advance that you will). That makes everybody happy.
don't you ever get frustrated by the number of people who don't
mark helpful or solved answers as such?
Not if the OP somehow lets me know whether the proposed solution worked or not. Sometimes I know for sure what the problem is and how to solve it, but others I don’t, and the user’s feedback is way more valuable to me than any points I could get.
So yes, merely setting up a smart mailbox is enough to make Mail
    to quit making the sound.
I’ve been unable to reproduce what you describe, but I’ve found something that could be related. Selecting an IMAP (or .Mac) mailbox causes Mail to check for changes made to that mailbox, including checking for new mail and applying rules as appropriate, just like it would do when automatically checking for mail according to your settings, except no sound is played if new mail arrived...
Could that be what you’re observing, i.e. could it be that Mail is actually behaving as expected but it seems that it isn’t because you’re checking for new mail as a result of manually selecting the account’s Inbox or something like that?
