HT1689 music storage

Hi
I have an iphone 4 and have about 250 songs on it so far. I have downloaded some more music and it says it cannot dowload due to storage. I deleted all my apps and moved my 300 photos onto a USB stick. It has downloaded some of the songs that wouldnt download but how do i get more storage to download the rest??
I am going on holiday and want to be able to download some more music before i go away if possible. I have tried to Google it and seen something called Itunes Match and someone has said about upgrading stoage, I have done this and it says i have 24GB available on my icloud. I dont mind paying for something but i want to make sure it works before i pay out to upgrade storage or Itunes match and then it doesnt work.
Sorry if i come across abit thick iv only just started putting music on my phone
Thanks

Adding to your iCloud storage won't give you extra storage on your phone - iCloud storage is for backing up your documents, files, photos etc from your device(s), you can't store music for the Music app in it.
You can subscribe to iTunes Match from your computer's iTunes and upload your music to it from there. But to then be able to play your music you will either need to stream it from Match (in which case you will need an internet connnection), or you will have nee to have downloaded it onto your phone (which if you haven't got enough space on it you won't be able to do).
iTunes Match : http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/
Depending upon what version of iOS that you have on your phone you might have a Settings > General > Usage which will show how much space each app is taking.
You could also consider changing the file format of those music tracks on your computer's iTunes so that each track takes up less space (though if you go to too low a bit rate you may notice the lower quality) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550

  • Going from xp to windows 7 64 bit using an external drive for music storage

    Greetings Techies!
I hope you all are well.
I need to move my iTunes from an XP machine to Windows 7 64 bit. On the XP machine I am using an external drive for music storage and the iTunes database is stored on the internal drive. I am looking for advice on how to transfer all of this over to my new Windows 7 64 bit machine. I know iTunes can be picky about everything and I don’t want to take and chances and loose my playlists or music.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Blessings,
    paul

You are right about it being picky. I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and was forced to format my drive. I had all the music backed up, but when I imported it, I have 2 or 3 copies of some songs, art work missing, and have lost my playlists. I hope someone responds to your question, because I could use similar help! Best of luck to ya . . .

  • Corrupted Music storage

My iPod Touch 5th gen (64GB) is about 2 years old now and I'm having problems with music storage. I think its probably due to the usual wear and tear, but anyways, my issue is that when I try to adds songs onto my iPod to my existing songs on it (Like I have 4700 songs onto it and I'm adding an additional 12 tracks), the existing songs disappear on my iPod and it shows up as Others in the storage on iTunes. I've ran diagnostics and factory reset my device on several occasions and the problems constantly reappears. What else can I do?
Thanks in advance for reading my post.
Also, when I go to Manage Storage in the settings, none of the missing storage for my songs shows up.

    - Try another cable.
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Try another USB port

  • Increasing Music Storage Setting?

Hi, I've had my nano for about 6 months or so... it's a 1gb one. I was wondering if you can increase the settings of the music storage settings since you can only utilize 217Mb... 892.5Mb free space. I would like to use the free space with songs/mp3s but it is reserved for videos/photos/etc...???
    Any suggestions?

You are aware that an iPod (in fact any hard drive) does not have the full amount of storage space available?
As a rough guide it's about 7% less.
The OS accounts for a few mbs of storage space.
It's the way that storage space is calculated by manufacturers, and the way that computers read it differently.
Read this. Although it refers to hard drives (and the nano has flash memory), the calculations are the same, and that accounts for the so called "missing space".

  • Music storage

    Hi there,
My music is being stored on my SD card, which is now full. How do I change music storage to be on the phone?
    Thanks.

Normally, music downloaded is stored in internal memory. There could be apps that let you store on SD,but I doubt it on kitkat.

  • Just upgraded to IOS 8.2. Settings app still crashes when attempting to manage music storage.

Just updated to iOS 8.2. Settings app still crashes when attempting to manage music storage.

Thanks for your reply. Any suggestions for ways to fix this? If I've already updated using my phone, am I just screwed?

  • What 2T external HD should I buy for my macbook pro for photos, videos and music storage?

    Hello friends!!
What 2T external HD should I buy for my macbook pro for photo, music and videos storage?
    Thank U!!

My personal preference is for the OW, http://www.macsales.com Mercury Elite Pro quad-interface drive...have four of them of the 2 TB size and they are very good performers.  The quad-interface allows you a choice of ways to connect, eSata, Firewire 800/400, USB which is very convenient.  OWC is a Mac specialist so everything has been tested and guaranteed to be Mac compatible.

  • Card for music storage

I am a new BB user, still learning the capabilities of the device.  The other day I ran into another BB user who was playing stored music.  I asked how she did this and showed me a card installed above the battery.  She said her phone came with this.  I check mine and the slot was empty.  Does anyone have information on this?

The micro SD card (memory expansion card) must be purchased separately. I am not aware of ANY device which includes the micro card. I recommend installing the card (as I have) for photo, music, etc. storage. Easy to install. Very handy for memory expansion! Recommend using only the 2GB card as this is the most universally supported maximum amount of memory currently supported by most BB devices.

  • ITunes music storage capacity does not match

I am using iTunes in Windows 7. iTunes version is 11.4.0.18
In iTunes, the status bar in music, it says capacity is 36 GB.
When I go into my computer and check the iTunes music library from there, it says capacity is 126GB.
Why is there a discrepancy? How much space does the music really take up?

As far as I'm aware, the Status Bar in iTunes tells you the storage size of the music selected in the viewing window. It is not the "capacity" of anything.
Therefore, if your viewing window (in iTunes) is showing one Genre (for example) rather than the complete Library, then you will get two different readings. In the screenshot below, you can see the Status Bar in iTunes, and the Properties window of my Music folder in My Computer over the top of it:
The reason for the difference is that the Status Bar is showing only what is in one part of my Library, a part that I have selected. In this case, all songs on Compilation albums:
However, if I now check the Status Bar for everything in my music Library, there is still a difference:
The first thing to note here is that the Music folder that I'm checking has several sub-folders inside it. Not everything in those sub-folders is music.
    What precisely is your concern?

  • Lost music/storage

It's been asked and answered but I'm still needing help.
New computer - did not back up from old computer (I'm fairly new at using iTunes 100% on my iPhone 4 so mistakes were made.)
Synced and lost everything - music (purchased and from CDs) and apps
Have reloaded (some) music to my iPhone BUT I have no storage space left. Before all this occured I had 100s of songs and 10s of apps. Not even a quarter of that amount on iPhone now but my storage is gone.
Restoring from my old computer is NOT an option. No longer available. I don't mind starting from scratch but I need more space.
What happens if I restore the phone from before I bought this new computer?
Step by step help would be awesome. (Working with Windows 8 and iPhone 4g)
PS. Is Match worth the price? And would it help this situation at all?

If iCloud Backup is set to Off in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, it means that your iPod will not automatically back up to iCloud, but will automatically back up to your computer when you sync.  The only way you would risk losing data is if you have never synced with iTunes before.  If that's the case, you have to take special precautions to avoid losing data, as outlined in this user tip: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.

  • ICloud music storage will it save memory on my phone?

My music takes up 8 g of memory. Will iCloud music save me memory on iphone5?

It would allow you to more easily access your music and download what you wish to have on it (without the need to synch to itunes). Whether it saves you storage would depend on how you use it, but potentially, yes.

  • HT1267 Music Storage

My phone memory is full due to music stored via itunes.
I have itunes match & icloud with 15GB spare memory showing.
How do I get my music on the phones memory to icloud, so I can free up the standard phone memory?

Nice point right there. I would also suggest to buy an external hard drive and store it their. Local is always a good option than online storage.

  • Photo and Music storage on External HDD attached to Time Capsule

My MacBook is out of space, and like most people, it is full of music and photos.  I have a Time Capsule for backups but I also have a 1TB HDD attached to the USB of the Time Capsule.  I would love to make that HDD the source for all photos and music so any of my macs can use this source location.
In essence, I want to use the HDD attached to the Time Capsule to serve as the lone storage source for all my photos and music, and have any of my macs seek these files when iTunes or iPhoto is opened on any machine.
Can I do this?  If not, any ideas?  I am trying to avoid requiring a HDD plugged into my laptop all the time.  It kind of defeats the purpose of "laptop" in my mind.  I also switch computers frequently and want to use all the same source files.
    Thanks!!

In essence, I want to use the HDD attached to the Time Capsule to serve as the lone storage source for all my photos and music, and have any of my macs seek these files when iTunes or iPhoto is opened on any machine.
    Can I do this
Yes, but I guess I'm wondering how you will backup the important data on that drive attached to the Time Capsule. Time Machine cannot do this, so you would have to add yet another drive and manually backup the files or use another commercial application that can backup from a network drive to another network drive.
The better plan might be to add an external USB or FireWire drive attached to a Mac and move all the media there. Then, Time Machine will backup both the Mac and the attached hard drive.
The experts in the iPhoto forum strongly advise against moving your iPhoto library to the Time Capsule or another network drive attached to the USB port on the TIme Capsule.....especially if you are using wireless.  Any disruption when iPhoto is writing to the library can create corruption issues that will likely damage the entire library.
Suggest that you post over in the iPhoto support area to ask the same question. But, be prepared for a lecture if iPhoto guru Terence Devlin answers your post.

Instructions for moving the iTunes library are available in the link below. I've tried this and found that access to the files on the network drive is s-l-o-w.  Not the ideal solution by any means, unless you like waiting.  And, you'll still have to figure out how to backup these files.

  • Mac Air storage indicates music storage is big but can not find music files

I am going in to check the storage on my hard drive. In the music section it says there is 74.14 GB of storage being used but I am unable to locate the files. I have checked everything that can be checked on this mac and no music. Can you please help. I fequently use Final Cut Pro and I know they render files but there are no music files rendered in there. Especially not to amount to that amount of storage. Please Help.

Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper and open it.  It will show all of you files and the respective sizes.

  • When I purchase the cloud for my music storage will the entire music catalog show on my device?

When I purchase the storage to store my music in the cloud ....will my music library be available with the amount of songs that I have stored in the cloud ?

Music purchased from the iTunes store is already available in iCloud and does not require purchasing any storage.  If you want to access music from other sources (such as your CDs), you have to purchase a subscription to iTunes Match (see http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/).  This will make your iTunes library accessible through iCloud (up to 25,000 songs not including music purchased from the iTunes store).  It also does not require additional storage in your iCloud account.  The subscription pays for separate storage to host your music and does not use your personal iCloud account storage.
