HT1694 my mail keeps saying "the connection to the server has failed" help!

Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then restart the app and see if it works normally.
If that doesn't help then try a reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Still no joy, contact your email service provider to make sure there is no service disruption on their end.

When I did the second one, when I got to the end of the process where it asks for your AppleID it kept saying there was a problem with the server. hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

Also, besides the time and date being correct make sure the time zone is also correct. Also, if yo have iOS 5, make sure date&Time is set to Automatic.

Ipad 2 keeps saying cannot connect to the server when i put in my facebook password

All the new updates made my ipad 2 not work well and hesitate so I cleared off all content and reset all settings and then downloaded all current updates. I now get a message every time I open my ipad 2 that says Log into Facebook. I do that with the correct password under settings and then get the ERROR: "CANNOT CONNECT TO THE SERVER" All is good on both my iphone and Mac book Air
I have tried:
Deleted facebook app...but only goes to iCloud wont totally delete
I have Reset Network settings
I have Reset Location and Privacy or at least I try but I dont think anything is happening

Have you tried rebooting your router - unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again - or temporarily disabling your firewall or anti virus software?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing an alert message when opening Mail on your iOS devices. Do you have multiple email accounts setup on the devices? Take a look at the article below, it provides suggestions that will resolve most issues that cause an alert like that to appear in when starting the Mail app.

the note says the connection to the server failed. i can get everything else off the internet but not my mail. i think i was checking out the icloud and might have accidently done something with my email to make it stop being available to me. how can i check out the icloud issue? Hi please help I have an Iphone 3 G S it is using the 5.1.1 ios upgrade which it has had for sometime although there was a minor update last evening ? My phone worked fine until arround 1 pm today then it stopped getting mail from my hotmail account along with the hotmail I am not longer able to see any updates to my calendar and most of my contacts have dissapeared. I have tried reconfiguring the hotmail account, deleating it, and putting it back on, and changing the password but none of these has worked. I know hotmail is working from my computer and it also working from another app I downloaded to the phone just now ( mail pro) but it still says connection to the server has failed?

Click on your Hotmail account in Settings, click on the blue arrow and Forget this Network and try signing in again.
