Your set up should be like this. From the wall to the wan port of the router and from the lan port of the router to the computer.

i have just bought my new ipad 2 and have followed all instructions but cannot connect to wifi.i put in my password which is correct but an error message says "unable to join the network" i have tried all the different methods online to correct this but still cannot connect. even tunred of and back on my router. any help please

try to work encryption off on the router to see if that the problem
the horrible old and useless encryption called WEP is poorly supported on many newer devices
as it offers not real protection
unlike WPA -AES
also check of the router maker updated their wifi router firmware to a newer version which fixes incompatability with newer wifi devices

Are you using WEP security? If yes you have to have the router to use the first key and as the password you have to enter the first hexadecimal key, not the paraphrase uses to generate the four keys. See:

Cannot connect to database because log file is deleted

Greetings,
I just recently cleaned up some junk files from my PC and didn't realize that an oracle log file got deleted. Therefore when I try to connect to the database I got the following error:
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
From sql plus, I try to shutdown and startup the database so that I know what kind of file that got deleted. So, how can I fix the problem?

Firefox crashing---most likely related to the plugin container issue, but also unable to uninstall firefox, there is no prompt that opens when I try to.

Like many others, I've been having issues with firefox since the update. The plugin container seems to crash my browser, or freeze the whole of my computer, and I must restart. I've switched to internet explorer for now.
Moreover, now Firefox doesn't even seem to open now. I doubleclick on the icon, or try to launch the browser in any way, and it looks like it thinks about opening, but nothing ever occurs. I've watched my system processes, and firefox.exe appears for a moment, and then disappears, like its process has ended, but I've done nothing.
Additionally, I can't even seem to uninstall firefox---the uninstall setup doesn't open, and trying to do it from add/remove programs on windows xp doesn't seem to work either.
I also sometimes get an error that says windows can't find a file/path, related to a 'profile' but haven't had that for a day or so---since I can't even open firefox now.

Cannot connect to some websites from Verizon (but ATT gets there just fine...)

So, for the past 24 hours I have repeatedly tried to access a blog (ginandtacos.com) via my Verizon connection; Verizon returns an error message that they are unable to find the site. They offer some alternatives from a Yahoo search that includes... the site I want. I click their link, they report they can't find the site, and offer some alternatives from a Yahoo search... (rinse and repeat).
Switching to my ATT-provisioned phone, I can easily access the site, so it is not down.
Any ideas?

Answering my own question...
Not a Verizon issue. The site owner asserts on Facebook that Network Solutions is holding the domain name hostage (and trying to blame ICANN). Apparently the whole thing will be fixed just as soon as some additional marketing services are purchased, or so he says.
ATT shows the same failed DNS resolution now. sigh.

Your Apple TV is connected to your wi fi network but cannot connect to the internet. Airplay logo not available on ipad3, iPod touch3g and showing intermittently in iTunes on windows laptop. Switched ISP a few days ago. Entered pass key info on all.

I switched ISP a few days ago and had problems with airplay since. After restarting and reinstalling and updating, re entering pass keys for new wi fi on everything, Apple TV shows: Your Apple TV is connected to your wi fi network but cannot connect to the Internet. Ipad3 and iPod touch 3G have no airplay icon or get one briefly then it disappears again. Same with itunes on windows laptop.
Can anyone help?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

"Cannot Connect Usine SSL"

I got the above error when trying to add my gmail account with the new $20 upgrade mail app.
I have checked my settings in my gmail account and they have imap and pop enabled.
Has anyone else gotten this error? Any fixes?

"Cannot Connect Using SSL" could also mean that it cannot do any SSL at all. Since I am expecting to use many open/public WLANs the use of SSL is really a must.
You could try creating a new Gmail account just for testing purposes. That should not interfere with any existing account or configuration. Otherwise, disable Gmail on the BB for a few hours and then try connecting again with the Touch. If the IMAP server is accessed from distinctly different IP address for the same account at the same time it may get confused (shouldn't, but you never know).

Cannot connect to iTunes Store through iBooks on iPad

My iBooks is saying i have updates for 3 titles, but when i hit 'update' (or 'update all') it comes up saying 'Cannot connect to iTunes store'
