I have the 1st generation iPad. All of a sudden it will not connect to my wi-fi. It finds my wi-fi, but will not totally connect. I have done everything...reset network, rebooted router etc and it still will not connect. My other divices are connected....iPhone and 3 Macs. Any suggestions?
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

OK, so I have the 1st generation iPad. There is an AirPlay symbol, near the music symbol. Is this useless? If I enable it, what does it enable? And, what technological advances were made over the last 2 versions that have made my iPad 1, obsolete?
Thanks for the enlightenment!
JeffMy daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Try This...

Reset ( No Data will be Lost )
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.

I have an 1st generation ipad. I am unable to update the software beyond 5.1.1. Why? It tells me my software is up to date.
Very possible.
You can often get the older version if you buy directly on the iPad
Go through the iTunes Store on your old iPad and purchase netflix, if you can get an older version of the app, iTunes will ask and prompt the download of older version.
Not all apps will be available.
I was able to put iBooks on my older iPod this way. -
Hi I have a 1st generation iPad 64Gb, my problem is when I am surfing the Internet or trying to read a magazine that I have bought and downloaded, the iPad closes down the app and the screen goes blank and then back to the home page. Any ideas?
Hi Fayed11,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I have the 1st generation ipod touch i installed an update which now it is 3.1.3 version i was able to put my apps on it but when i want to use the apps it will not let me use them. What do i need to do?
Does it happen with the apps that came with the iPod?
Does it happen with all apps you have downloaded/installed?
Have you ried deleting the apps and redownload/install the apps? You will not be charged again if you are signed into the same iTunes account that originally purchased the apps.
Next would be to restore from backup
Last would be to restore to factory defaults/new iPod. -
Now that iOS is consistently being updated. Will the 1st Generation IPad be stuck with IOS 5? Eventually my IPad will be good for nothing as Apps start requiring the updated software.
The iPad 1 can only be updated to iOS 5.1.1. This is unlikely to change.
The apps you have will continue to work and there are still many apps which run on iOS 5 (or even earlier iOS levels). -
I have a 1st generation iPad and recently updated to iOS 5. However, I can't find my AppStore app icon now. Like it's disappeared!
How do I get the icon back?Do your have Restrictions turned on? Settings>General.
If that's not it, scroll to the left until you get to the search page. enter "App Store", does this find the app? If so, then the icon is lost on some later page or is in some folder. -
I currently have the 1st generation iphone. I am looking to upgrade, which iphone would you suggest? iphone 3GS or the iphone 4? other?
Yes!! I have been told by many to buy the 3GS iphone. They love it and tell me I would, too. But thanks to you, Dad and Michele, for your information that you have provided; I will purchase the iphone 4. With the great Facetime feature, I will be able to use it with my daughter who is stationed in Japan with her husband. By the way, I keep hearing that Apple will be making iphone in white. When will that happen? Thanks again!

There is no trade in program.

I have the first generation iPad, how do I get the software update iOS 6?
I have the first generation iPad and I'm trying to download apps but my device keeps telling me to download the iOS software update 6. When I go to updates in my settings it's saying my device is up to date with iOS 5.1.1, but it's saying I need the iOS 6. How do I upgrade my device if it's not showing iOS update 6?
The first generation iPad cannot be updated past iOS 5.1.1
You may still be able to get compatible versions fo the Apps by downloading the App to iTunes on a computer or another device that does support the current App version using the same Apple Id you have on your iPad. With that done you can follow these instructions from your iPad to get a compatible version:
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app

I have a first generation iPad every app I try to download says I need iOS 6.0 or higher to use it is there anything I can do?
Some apps will let you run on a lower version of iOS. Here's how to find out if the ones you want will run on your iPad.
1. Open iTunes on your computer and go to the App Store
2. Download the apps you want to your iTunes account in iTunes
3. On your iPad, tap the App Store
4. Tap the purchased tab
5. The apps you downloaded to your iTunes account on your computer will be listed with a cloud icon next to them.
6. Tap the cloud and if the app will run on a lower version of iOS, it will give you the option to download a version that will run on your iPad. If the app doesn't give you the option, there's nothing you can do.
