HT1695 wifi not seeing router in next room?

i recently had my iphone 4 worked on where they replaced the power/lock button.  i have noticed in the last couple of days that my wifi is not connecting unless i am really close to the router.  i have to be in the room with it or the next room.  i know it is not my router b/'c ipad and computer see router from across house. any ideas!!!

Go back to the apple store. If you had it worked on by apple. if it was worked on 3rd party you voided the warranty. If apple worked on it go back to them for your replacement options. if you still have hardware warranty it will be free

  • MacBook does not see router while other devises do.

Hello. My MacBook is unable to detect router wifi. I can see other wifi networks but not the one my router share. However my iPad, iPhone and HTC Desire HD detect it and connected. What the problem might be? Thank you.

Apple Tech Support solved this problem quickly and easily. In short, the USB connected printer was pointed to the computer and not the Airport Express. Here's what they ran me through:
    - Assumes the Airport Express sees the printer as connected via USB
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Regardless of the printers you see, click the "+" button to add a printer
    3. Select the Default icon
    4. Check the Kind... should be Bonjour
    5. Select the printer type connected to the Airport Express... the system will start to add such a printer
    6. Ensure the Location is the Airport Express (mine was previously pointed to the MacBook)
-- You can change the name here is you like also such as "Kitchen HP Photosmart c4480)... recommend a different name than the original one installed so you know which one to remove later
    7. Select Add
    8. Remove the original printer which is pointing to the MacBook
You should be good to go.... Key points: Bonjour and Location as the Airport Express

  • HT1695 Wifi not working on iPad 2.

I recently purchased 16 GB iPad 2 Wifi in India, the wifi router which i used to connect with my iPhone 4s and mac book is not working. The iPad detects the signal, after entering the password only the waiting symbol is present. I tried reseting network settings, restarting the device, restarting the router as well. But nothing changed.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • IPhone 5 wifi not connecting unless extremely close to router...?

I've had my iPhone 5 for about 6 months. I've never experienced any problems at all with it.
Over the last week, I've had major wifi problems. My phone only connects to my home wifi if I'm sitting next to the router, like a 7 foot radius from it. The minute I walk out of the room, it drops first to a low wifi signal, then shows the loading circle next to the wifi symbol, and then goes to either 3G or LTE.
The thing is, even when it goes to LTE or 3G, the signal is at the lowest bar as if there's no service at all.... sometimes, I'll have absolutely none.
There are 8 Apple devices in my family and every single one of them works perfectly with my home wifi no matter where I am in the house or in friend's houses with other home wifis...except mine!
I've never had this problem until recently so I'm not sure what triggered it.
Went to Verizon and they basically told me I was mistaken because it was working on their wifi (of course), so although I explained the situation,  it was working while I was there, so they didn't believe me per say. They told me to call tech support if it kept happening and they did a soft reset on my phone. As soon as I got home, my wifi disappeared immediately and switched to low-service LTE.
I'm afraid if I go to the Apple store, it'll cost me to replace my phone OR they won't believe me or "fix" it, or they'll tell me some "easy fix" that actually doesn't work. Main problem is,  I'm SURE their wifi will work on my phone so they won't be able to see what I mean when I say it's not working.
I've read of others with this problem and I've tried putting it on airplane mode, turning off, turning on, turning off airplane mode and turning on wifi. I've reset it. I've changed some wifi settings and done other random things but everything just works for about 3 minutes and then it goes right back to square one.
    So... what should I do?
    Thanks in advance-
    Beth

Any luck finding the solution to this?  I cannot connect to my home wifi unless my Mac is already connected.  I don't get it.

  • Migration assistant screw up, Mac Pro not seeing wifi/TC

    Hi
I've been using a MacBookPro (MBP) for almost 5 years now, with a 1TB Time Capsule (TC1) using Time Machine (TM). I am the sole user, HDD is 270Gb used/50Gb free; using Mavericks, v10.9.2. On Friday, I used Sophos anti virus home edition, to scan the MBP. It comes up with no threats identified, and I uninstall Sophos.
Yesterday I took delivery of the Mac Pro (MP) with the 3Tb Time Capsule (TC3).
I booted up the MP, with the TC3. I did not, at this stage, connect the TC3 to the internet. Using TM, I backed up the MP. TC3 flashes the amber light.
Using Migration Assistant (MA) I tried to copy the MBP to the MP, 3 times. This did not work. At the point where the target machine has listed what is available to transfer, I click Continue and MA on the MP closes, on the MBP it says something like connection lost. The screen where this happens, lists 3 items available to transfer Application, Documents/Date and Computer settings; with a content of 128kb indicated, which is clearly wrong! The connection was an Ethernet cable direct from the MBP to the MP.
At this stage, I decide to connect the MP to the internet using TC3, there's some settings to be changed on TC3 using Airport Utility and it connects ok. TC3 has a steady green light.
I run 2 software updates on the MP. I surf the net briefly, to make sure it's ok.
I try again to use MA. This time, the dialgoue box listing what's available to transfer is different. There are 2 or 3 more options, colour is present, the font is different, the box is about the same size. The MP would not let me take any screenshots as all other applications are closed when MA is running. I don't think it gave me the size of what was being transferred, but it looked more hopeful, so I Continue and the transfer starts, with an estimated time of 33 minutes.
    The transfer completes.
The MBP, as you would expect, has not changed, the MP has, but not in the way I expected. Applications appear to have all transferred (without checking them), no Documents/data and no Downloads appear to have transferred; I ticked to transfer everything.;I know I can reconnect the Ethernet cable and simply copy the data across.
But the main problem appears to be, the MP does not see the wifi.
    Ethernet cable is removed.
The MP asks if I want to give permission to eeEvents manager (I presume calendar related) and say yes. It also asks if I want to install a Java run time, no.
In System preferences/Network it tells me a new Thunderbolt bridge has been found and asks if it's ok, to accept it, yes. It tells me the Ethernet cable is disconnected, rightly so; it says Airport is not connected.
I open Airport utility, no sign of the TC1 or TC3 despite it searching. Apart from TC1, the MP, MBP and TC3 are sat within a couple of feet of each other.
I turn on TC1/TC3 (separately and not at the same time, then at the same time), but the MP does not see them. I've reset TC3, rebooted the MP and still the MP does not see it.
I don't get any errors or warnings coming up.
I think my next option is to try and reset the MP to the factory settings, but this won't work, as I've no internet connection to reinstall OS X. No disc is sent with the MP.
Any suggestions as to what to try? Otherwise, I'll be off to the Apple Store tomorrow for a One to One!! :-(
Thanks for any help and Happy Mother's Day!!

Take the MP and connect it via ETH to your main router.
Restart the machine holding down command option R, you should see a spinning globe
Open disk utility and reformat the MP HD as Mac journaled
Then install OSX on this drive

  • Mom does not see my iChat video, but I see her, and my wife can see mine

When I iChat with Mom, I can see her, but she cannot see my iChat video. All she sees is herself as if she is still in iChat preview mode. Audio works fine. It is like a 1-way video chat with a 2-way audio chat, only we did not request this mode.
This was working for years (from when Mac OS X Panther first offered iChat video chats). Mom only seeing herself is a fairly new situation, but I can not pin down when it started, or what might have triggered it.
My wife can connect with my Mom, and again, my Mom's display stays in preview mode, but my wife can see my Mom, same as I see, only my wife is using her own MacBook Pro.
When I'm at Mom's using my MacBook, I can iChat with my wife. She can see me and I can see her. My wife and I can also successfully iChat video chat when she is away on business trips using the hotel's WiFi. I do not think it is my MacBook, nor my wife's MacBook Pro.
And also while at Mom's with my laptop right next to Mom's iMac G4 using a Bonjour local connection, I see what Mom is sending, but she stays in preview mode only seeing herself.
So I think I've eliminated the internet as a whole, and I've eliminated my MacBook as being the cause.
I really think it is Mom's iMac G4.
I've tried trashing all the iChat related .plist files, but I could have missed something.
Mom's Connection Doctor says it is getting stuff from me at between 13 and 15 frames/second, but all that is shown is her own iSight image.
    Some configuration details:
o Mom's 1.25GHz G4 PowerPC iMac is Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) all the latest updates.
o Mom uses the original firewire iSight.
o While I think I've eliminated the router, it is an 802.11n Airport Extreme (single transmitter in 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz mode, channel 1).
o Verizon DSL connection that has worked just fine in the past, beside same situation occurs when I'm sitting next to Mom using a Bonjour connection.
o Mom is 300 miles away, so I can not just drop in. However, I do have VNC access to Mom's system over an ssh tunnel.
    o Firewall is Off
o My 2GHz intel Core 2 Duo white MacBook is Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.8) all the latest updates (w/build-in iSight camera).
o My wife has an intel 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.8) all the latest updates (w/build-in iSight camera).
o My router is also an 802.11n Airport Extreme (single transmitter in 802.11n 5GHz only mode), with an older flying saucer Airport Extreme 802.11g in bridge mode to support older Macs and iPod Touchs.
o My broadband is also a Verizon DSL connection.
    o Firewall is Off.
Events that have happened recently. I'm not saying they are the cause, but generally things that did work do not stop working for no reason at all.
    o I've applied Apple's Software Updates.
o I've experimented with TeamViewer.com as an alternative to VNC for remote control (this did not involve video, but it was something new to the mix). NOTE: I DO NOT keep TeamViewer running. I find my VNC via OSXvnc to be satisfactory.
o My nephew moved back in with his Mom (my sister) and his Dad, which is where my Mom happens to live. However, my nephew has his own 12" G4 PowerBook, so he does not need to mess with Mom's. But then again, years ago, I found my Mom's previous Bondi Blue iMac had its web server enabed after a visit from my nephew. Of course now he is a college gradate and much more responsible. Oh yea my nephew was a College Quarterback for a Top Ten College, and I'm a bookworm type. I am not going to accuse my nephew of doing something to his grandmother's iMac unless I have absolute proof
o At one time I had the Chax plug-in installed on Mom's iMac G4. I used Chax to uninstall itself.
I'm stumped. I've tried all the problem isolation things I could think of, as well as the tried and true "Delete the .plist" trick (assuming I found the right .plist(s)).
Has anyone actually lived through this, solve it for someone else, other.

I would do the Latest Combo Installer for the OS level she is at.
That is going to have to wait until after Thanksgiving.
While I'm confident that applying/re-applying the latest Combo Update will not cause any problems, if anything goes wrong (and I know Murphy personally), I will not be able to drive the 300 miles to Mom's house until the weekend following the Thanksgiving weekend.
If I'm going to try doing something like this remotely, I'm not going to do it unless I can get in the car and be a Mom's house the next morning to clean up any mess I create.
So I will put your idea in my "To Do" list (I'll even create a Google Calendar event), to try this 4-Dec-2009.
Thank you for the idea. If I have not found a solution before the 4th, I will install the Combo update.
But I do have a question. Why would Mom's iChat display the video preview window showing what her iSight camera sees, if she was unable to display the remote video stream, just because there was a ColorSpace issue. Hay, I write software for a living, so I know that the left hand does not need to know what the right hand is doing, not the big toe, the elbow, an ear, etc... Software is full of paradoxes. But I figured I would just ask.
And I'm still going to give the Combo update a try on 4-Dec-2009.
But in the mean time. Other suggestions would be appreciated.
Does anyone have a laundry list of .plist files I should try deleting? I did try deleting some obvious ones, but maybe I missed something important, or maybe there is one that does not say iChat, but is just as important.
You never know, if I get enough ideas (tons of ideas), and they all still fail, and I'm frustrated beyond belief, maybe I'll break down and get Mom a nice 27" iMac for Christmas! But if I do that, I'm getting one for me first

  • Imac not seeing wifi

My imac is not seeing my wifi.
my macbook is connecting to the wifi at the same place.

WiFi works best in a range of 10 feet (3.048 meters) to 150 feet from the transmitter.
WiFi works best if you use WPA2 encryption.  This is not possible if your Mac is the original Airport 802.11b, unless you attach a WiFi ethernet bridge router and connect to its LAN port.  It has to be Extreme to get at least 802.11g.  Starting late in 2006, patches were available to upgrade Macs to 802.11n, and by late 2007, all Macs had built-in 802.11n.  Obviously the slowest machine on the network will drag the speed of the entire network.  Microwave and 2.4 Ghz frequencies, and unshielded speakers can all affect the strength of the wireless signal.  Not all iMacs have builit-in airport.  To determine if yours does, identify it first using the first article below, and then read the following article to determine if Extreme was included:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301724
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2256
All Intel iMacs have built-in Airport Extreme cards.  If you find it isn't working, and the above tips don't work, let us know which iMac you have, and we can tell you what step to take next.

  • Want to enhance wifi strength - router in one room, wifi capable computer in another

I need to enhance the wifi signal in my home in order to utilize a wifi ready computer on another floor. The wifi indicates 2 out of 5 bars on the wifi indicator, but frequently loses the signal completely. I have several coaxial ports around the house and have heard that there is an old school Motorola device out there that I can use to boost the wifi signal.
I am using the router in the room where the fios wire enters the residence and want to leave it there....any suggestions?

The "old school Motorola" device is MoCA bridge.  It will provide an Ethernet port active on your LAN anywhere you have coax.  You'd then need to plug a WiFi access point or router into the Ethernet port.
Or, you could pickup an old Actiontec WiFi router online and use it as a single bridge and access point.
There are lots of discussions of how to do this in these forums.  Spend some time searching and looking around and you'll find them.

I smashed my IPAD glass and after having it repaired I am no longer able to access wifi unless I am right next to my router.  Has anyone else had this experience and what is solution?

Given the complexity in merely getting the thing open, that is likely. Or they forgot to reconnect it. See #14  and from #52 on down in: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iPad+2+GSM+Bluetooth-Wi-Fi+Antenna/6166/1

  • A router should not see this default route concept ?

I have got Router3 connected between two different domains OSPF and EIGRB (Router3 is ASBR), if the requirement like this:
Configure your network so that Router3 advertises a default route to the rest of your OSPF enabled devices. However in order to help prevent traffic black holes, it has been suggested that Router3 should not see this default route. Instead Router3 must have a longer match for all destination.
What did he meant by : “Router3 should not see this default route” and “Instead Router3 must have a longer match for all destination.” ?

    yes the default is 0.0.0.0/0
The router will issue a default into the ospf domain but when you check r3's routing table there will not be a default route...This instructs all other routers that have no specific route to a destination network, to send their traffic to r3.
When a router makes a routing decision it looks for the routing entry that best matches the destiantion. For example if it needs to route a packet to 10.1.2.0 and has the following entries in the routing table:
    1. 10.0.0.0/16 next-hop A
    2. 10.1.0.0/16 next-hop B
    3. 0.0.0.0 next-hop C
It will chose B, because it is a longer match to the destination.
for a destination net 192.168.0.0 it would use the default
