HT1711 Need to upgrade iTunes but laptop says it can't because iTunes was improperly installed. If I uninstall, will I loose everything?

I need to upgrade iTunes but my laptop say's it can't because iTunes was improperly installed to begin with.  If I uninstall iTunes, will I loose all the work I've put into my downloads and my playlists?
