HT1751 cant drag item to hard drive

I have partitioned my external hard drive to be journaled and consolidated my itunes, the instructions onlie say you can just drag it on over there , is there a secret to dragging the file? because I can not drag anything over to the hard drive??

Need help with iphoto and dragging to external hard drive

I have my iphoto very organized into Events and I recently just moved them to be in folders. I would like to have only certain Events (or folders/albums) on the external hard drive. The apple store rep said to go to Finder, Pictures, Iphoto, then right click to "Show Package Contents." Then go to either "original" or "modified." From there I can drag into the hard drive. However, I'm very confused because the "modified" or "original" are not organized at all by folders or events. There are dates only. What can I do to find, drag the events (each are named)? Please help!

2. You need to clarify:

Moved them to be where in folder? In iPhoto? In the FInder?
I would like to have only certain Events (or folders/albums) on the external hard drive.
In an iPhoto Library? Or in the Finder?
Do not access the Library via the Finder or any other app. You risk damaging your Library and you will lose data.
If you want to have some Events/Albums on an External Disk within iPhoto:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager
If you want to have them in Folders in the Finder
Use the FIle > Export command to get photos out of iPhoto.

I cant access time capsule hard drive.

I cant access time capsule hard drive. Everything was working before but all of a sudden i get an error msg when double clicking on my network drive which states ' The local device name is already in use'. The time capsule wireless network works fine though. I am using Vista 64.

Reboot the entire network.. everything must go off.. all stuff off.
Restart in order.. modem.. router.. TC (maybe also working as router).. other network stuff.. clients.
Can vista now open the disk?
If not try doing it manually.. in windows explorer type the TC address \\10.0.1.1 for instance.. whatever IP it has. I just used default as example.
If no good, open the airport utility which I hope you have installed.
Make sure the TC name is short no spaces pure alphanumeric.
Make sure workgroup is correct and guest access is on with read and write permissions.
If still no good.. press and hold the reset.. redo the setup.
Later TC firmware is useless for windows users.. the best was 7.5.2 which you should go back to.
Do you have other clients using the TC? Are they all ok?
vista.. shudder.. has one virtue.. it made me give up windows and move to Mac OS.

Deleted Items from Hard Drive folder and now nothing works ...

Under the 'Search For' heading in the right hand column of the grey box that comes up when you open your hard drive, there are the heading All Images, All Movies, All Docs .... I've deleted about 2600 files from the 'All Images' folder and now my iPhoto won't open as there is nothing in it, and my Entourage crashes when I try to open it.
I've obviously deleted files that were needed for these applications. The items are all still in my Trash, but I don't know how to return the files to their original homes. Can anyone help please?

V.K. - thank you for your help. I've manually moved all my photos back to iPhoto and that's back up and running.
The problem I'm left with is how to reinstate the correct files to Entourage. Even if I could identify which files are part of that application (can anyone help with that?), I'm still not sure how to put them back into Entourage. Is it simply a matter of dragging them over to my Entourage icon?

Disk Utility cant repair my external hard drive?!

I'm using a 1 TB WD external hard drive on my Macbook Pro (OS is still Snow Leopard).
It was working just fine until a few days ago the hard drive does not show on finder. I tried to repair it with disk utility but it gave the following message
"Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
Of course I cant back up my files, it doesn't even show on finder! It doesn't show on other macs and PCs either!
I did my research on the internet and tried the following commands on Terminal
mount /dev/disk1
and it says "unknown special file or file system."
mount force /dev/disk1
and it says "/System/Library/Extensions/ufs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) not privileged; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).
UFS filesystem is not available."
What does that mean??
I can reformat my hard drive but it has 500 GB worth of files and I'd rather not loose them if possible.. Is it possible?
I'm also trying to save my files using this software Disk Drill, but it takes forever and the showing files doesn't have the proper name.
Is there anything else I could try? I'll really appreciate any kind of help. Thanks!

Use a product such as DiskWarrior to repair the drive; you’re supposed to make backups to guard against future trouble and not while having it.

Cant copy to Lacie Hard drive

I have a lacie hard drive that i use mostly with my pc. I had some files on my macbook that I wanted to put on that hard drive but when i try to copy them it wont let me and says that the file cant be modified. what can i do?

Your PC-oriented drive is undoubtedly formatted NTFS. Drives in that format are read-only for the Mac OS, unless you install third-party software such as NTFS-3G (freeware) or Tuxera NTFS (commercial) that enables full access to them.

Dragging things to hard drive.

I'm new to Mac, I downloaded Google Earth and now the computer wants me to drag it to my hard drive?? Do not know how to do this, please help

Disk Utility took over Disk Copy's functions after 10.2.8. Regardless the concept is the same when you download most Mac OS X software. A disk image stores the software online that you download. You double click the image file to open up a virtual disk that you can copy the data from to your hard drive. Your hard drive is often labeled Macintosh HD. Inside the hard drive is a folder labeled Applications. Open that folder and keep that window side by side with another window on the Disk Image with Google Earth's application that looks like a blue and white lollipop icon. Drag that icon into the Applications folder window. Then open Google Earth from there.

Cant find my external hard drive in disk utility/ finder

I have plugged in my hard drive through USB connection to my macbook pro which is running OS X 10.9. However It never show the hard drive icon on the desktop. I tried using the finder>preferences>tick and I have confirmed that I have the external hard drive box ticked. Help - Cant use CS3 after Hard Drive replaced and software had to be reinstalled

My iMac needed a new Hard Drive so had this replaced by licensed Apple repairer. All software was lost and was told to reinstall CS3 which I did successfully. I have the original CD's. Serial number accepted. When I opened up Illustrator, Photoshop or indesign I get a message saying I am trying to upgrade ( which I am not) and that I need to choose the version premium 1 or 2 or standard 1 or 2. I chose standard 1. The am asked to put serial number in again then hit enter button. It comes up with an "x" saying I cannot access or upgrade. I then can't go forward or do anything except click back button or quit. Please can anyone help?? I tried calling Australian customer support but CS is not supported by phone which is very frustrating.

Purdy123 did you migrate or transfer over your applications from the other drive? If so then this is likely causing your current error. Please run the available uninstallers located in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once you have done this then please also use the CC Cleaner Tool to ensure complete removal. You can find instructions and the download at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.
Once you have completed the removal process you should then be able to reinstall the software successfully. If you need a fresh copy of the installation files then you can download them from Download CS3 products.

Cant see airport internal hard drive

My airport extreme base station with internal 2g network-attached storage NAS
model: A1408 stopped working recently. When It would finally turn on again, I can no longer see the internal hard drive. Its working as a wireless router. I tried putting a flash drive in the USB port and it sees that ok. Any suggestions? Shouldn't it show in the disk pane of the Airport Utility? I am using Win 7.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same AirPort base station. The A1408 is a 5th generation 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station. It does NOT have an internal storage hard drive.
Did you mean you had a Time Capsule or is the "network-attached storage NAS" device you refer to a device that is attached to the Extreme? If the latter, is it connected to the Extreme via a USB or Ethernet connection?
What is this hard drive formatted in ... NTFS, FAT32, ExFAT, or something else?

Cant repair permissions on hard drive

I have a 1 TB hard drive that I installed and for some reason I can not repair permissions on it. It does not let me choose it in disk utility.
anyone know how I can rapair the permissions?

I am running 10.5.7
Only the OS (if any) installed on the 1TB drive matters. Whatever systems you might have installed on other drives or partitions doesn't.

Contact LaCie for assistance. If you have to install OS X, then you must install no later than Leopard depending on exactly which G4 model you have.

Cant connect to ext hard drive

I reformatted by WD ext drive as instructed on this forum. It now shows up in Finder under shared. However when I try to connect, I have to hit "connect as" it asks for my base station password but its wont accept it. I even went into keychain and see that I am entering the right password. Before I tear everythng down and start all over with the extreme, I was hoping someone could help.

HT1751 Restored music files from hard drive to c drive to itunes

Finally got the albums restored but now missing half the artwork. Even when I click Get Album Artwork, it does not restore all that I had before.

Somehow I got it all back, but don't ask me what I did. I just clicked things until something worked.
