HT1751 If I need to delete iTunes but reinstall and want to keep my music do I use this method and will it work?
My computer is running very slowly and I have been told to delete everything off it and reinstall applications I need - iTunes is one of them...
However I'm scared that if I uninstall iTunes then reinstall it my music on my iPod will be deleted. If I use this method will my music be saved and be able to be reloaded onto iTunes and my iPod?!
Backup iTunes to an External Hard Drive... Make sure Everything is on the EHD and Working to your satisfaction BEFORE Deleting anything on your computer.

The music sync is how you got the music from the computer to the ipod in the first place.
You cannot sync it from the ipod to the computer as I explained in the previous post, unless it is itunes purchased music. -
I cannot back up my IPad because I have a corrupted backup that I need to delete. The problem is I cannot locate the file to delete it. How do you locate the backup file?
You have the latest version of iTunes on your computer (on a PC 'Help > Check For Updates' ; on a Mac 'iTunes > Check For Updates') ? You could also try ejecting the iPad and rebooting your PC and the iPad : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If you still get the same error then check whether it has actually deleted the backup (if you have other devices that you backup to that computer then they will also have backups) - they are stored under :
Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.
Windows Vista and Windows 7:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

Trying to transfer iTunes library from old windows 7 pc to new windows 8.1. Used home sharing, but not what I wanted, I want everything on the new so I can discard the old pc - so now all I have is my music library on new pc thru the cloud none of my Audible audiobooks came over - My question is do I need to delete iTunes off my new pc before I load it in from a external hard drive?
You might need to make sure neither is going to sleep (System Prefs > Energy Saver)
Also check your settings under System Prefs > Security. My sisters new laptop kept logging off due to some setting there.

Go to Settings/ Store and under the category "Automatic Downloads" you can turn OFF the automatic download of purchases to your device (this needs to be done for each device). There's also a setting in iTunes just for automatic pushes to your iTunes library.
To remove a purchase you've made directly to your device, you can either:
a- Swipe across the song title from left to right and press Delete, or
b- If you auto-sync your device, connect to iTunes and click on the Music tab where you define your sync settings (the Music tab is to the right of the overall Summary page of your device). At the bottom of the Music tab you'll see direct purchases that are on your device -- simply un-check those and click "Apply" or "Sync" to remove them.
c- If you manually manage music on your device, connect to iTunes and click the small arrow to the left of your device name, and then click on the Music folder under your device. Then navigate to the item(s) you want to remove and then delete them.
To prevent things from syncing from your library to your device, there are many ways to do that (un-checking things in your library is one way, but not the best IMO). Might want to read the manual or some online tutorials on iTunes if you want to learn more. -
The image came up on my screen saying that I need to connect my iPod to iTunes, but I have a passcode, so it won't allow me to. And I want to try and turn it off, but my touch screen doesn't seem to be working either, so I can't even turn it off since you need to "slide to power off." HELP! My iTunes got deleted off a (no longer working) computer. I have lost all music & data that was on this original itunes. Is there a way I can transfer all content from my iPhone (music & photos) onto iTunes on a new computer? I want to update my iphone (3GS), but do not want to lose any music off it when syncing it. By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are using a new computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:

Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under iTunes>Preferences(under the edit menu if using Windows)>Devices in itunes.
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Address Book & iCal or Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, DO NOT SYNC at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go. -

It depends on what iPhone you have.
If it's an iPhone 4S or earlier, click here.
If it's an iPhone 5, you need to buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and that requires an Intel Mac with at least 1GB RAM.

You have no chose but to restore your phone. What do you mean "lose everything"? Is your data/iTunes content not on your computer?

I have intel mac 10.411, want to access iTunes, won't let me unless upgrade tp itunes 10, but it needs OSX 10.5. I just want to download some music, not upgrade my operating system. It's not THAT old. Ideas?
As long as you don't need all the bells and whistles of the iTunes Store such as Ping, and don't need to sync an iOS device running iOS 4.x, then iTunes 9.2.1 should work for you. It should be available via Software Update, but if not, you can still get it here:

but it would be best to upgrade your Mac to Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, since it's probable that eventually the iTunes Store will no longer support iTunes 9.x.

No.
However, you do maintain complete and regular backups of your computer, correct?
For iTunes, the iTunes library is the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder. -

i am trying to download video that i purchased from itunes, but everytime i want to resume the process after pausing it, it automatically start the whole downloading process again, how can i eliminate this problem?
They don't normally appear in the download screen ... until I attempt to download another movie. Then they just start appearing. If you click edit - a normal movie download has a circle that appears on the left hand side that allows you to select and delete ... these movies don't have that option so you need to find the movie in you list (under movies) and select the download cloud symbol again to stop it downloading ...you may need to do this a number of times before it stops for a while ... or until you try to download a movie then it starts all over again.
i have logged out of my itunes account. restarted the iPad, removed all movies, restarted the iPad, logged back into my iTunes account and restarted my iPad .... but as soon as I tried to download a single movies ... the other movies started appearing in the downloads again.
