  • When opening iTunes I continue to get the same messages, 'The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is missing' and 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows error 126)' I've uninstalled, reinstalled many times - nothing! help please.

When opening iTunes on my new Windows 7 PC I continue to get the same messages, 'The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is missing' and 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows error 126)' I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times to no avail, even tried it on a different user account and still nothing. I recently installed Panda Internet Security 2012 (about 12 days ago), initially iTunes worked fine as usual but within the last few days I've been  unable to open it with the same messages appearing. I've read through some of these pages and tried everything that's been advised, uninstalling and reinstalling while internet and laptop security is swithched off, downloading tools to completely remove anything related to iTunes, tried it in Safe Mode, nothing has worked. I've also noticed that in the start menu when I click on iTunes, it says '(empty)' where it should have the logo and ability to start the program, does this mean it doesn't download + install properly each time I've tried? Any help would be enormously appreciated.

Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

  • ITunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows 7)

It all started when the apple software updater found updates for both itunes and quicktime. Ever since getting that update iTunes has never worked again.
I've googled this problem and tried all solutions. I tried uninstalling everything, rebooting, and re-installing itunes. I've tried repairing .net framework. I've even tried to use the revo uninstaller.
When I attempt to put iTunes back on the computer I get an error message saying something like:
Service apple mobile device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges.
I'm given an option to either retry, ignore, or abort. I've tried to retry, but the same message with the same options always comes up. I've tried ignoring, but when the install is done I get the same message that iTunes was not installed correctly error 7. Sometimes it will say the iTuneshelper wasn't installed correctly.
WIthout iTunes i can't add new songs to my iPhone and I can't get any future updates either. There must be a fix out there for this. Please help me.

I've found something that may or may not be relevant.
Whenever I run CCleaner after installing iTunes I get the following registry errors:
    Missing TypeLib Reference    IUserHelper - {19D52A9A-379C-4720-BA00-3D396ECD24D7}    HKCR\Interface\{915DA835-02FE-4953-92FA-624BDF5D85AB}

These always come back when I try and 'Repair' iTunes from the control panel.
    Ideas anyone?

  • While running an update in Itunes i received an error message - Unable to locate component because AVFoundationCF.dll was not found. Then Itunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (windows error 126) Do I have to reinstall and will I loose all my music?

While running an update in itunes (not installing), it stopped in the middle of the update and i receceived the following messages:
Application failed to start because AVFoundationCF.dll was not found. Reinstalling itunes may fix the problem. Then "itunes was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall itunes Error 7 (Windows error 126)".  If i uninstall and reinstall itunes will I lose all of my music, etc.?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

  • "iTunes was not installed correctly - reinstall" Will I lose my library?

iTunes error 7. Windows error 1114. iTunes WON'T open at all.  Can't sync my iPhone or iPod, but more worryingly - I've hundreds of tracks in lots of albums on my iTunes, many of which I've recorded myself live; my accompaniments from Sibelius;  rehearsal CDs on playlists for the groups I conduct.  HELP!!!  I can't lose these!   If I reinstall from scratch, will I lose my present library? Will all my iPhone backup have gone?  (I don't think I clicked to update iTunes.  It seems to have done this of it's own accord)

Thanks Niel,  Good to know I won't lose it all, but I can't back it up first as I can't open the programme.  Just hoping it's backed up somewhere else on my hard drive.  iCloud only backs up my purchases.

  • Updating my Win7 to 12.1, I get 'iTunes was not installed correctly Error 7 (Windows error 127). If I try to launch, I get 'The procedure entry point "CMBlockBufferCopyDataBytes" could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll'. Help!

Windows version 7. Auto update of iTunes to version 12.1 from 12.0.1.
At end of install process, message 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows error 127).
Tried to launch iTunes, anyway, but immediately got message 'The procedure entry point "CMBlockBufferCopyDataBytes" could not be located in the dynamic link library CoreMedia.dll'.
Tried downloading iTunes and updating manually - get exactly the same result.
No problem using iTunes before this.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The error hints at a similar pattern to those discussed in the first and third boxes of the user tip, suggesting that you've got an outdated .dll file that needs replacing. You should find CoreMedia.dll in the one of the following folders:
         C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
         C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
Delete it and then repair Apple Mobile Device Support from the Programs and Features control panel. If that doesn't work go for the full tear down and rebuild.

  • Resinstalling Itunes does not fix the error? It won't let me play my audible books because 'itunes was not installed correctly', so I reinstalled it and it still won't work. I'm lost, any suggestions?

I recently moved my itunes to a new computer. The audible stuff doesn't automatically come up because its not purchased from the itunes store. So I opened the files with itunes on my new computer. It said that I had to authorise my audible account on this computer which I did, but then itunes came up with the following:
'Could not authorise this computer because iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.'
So I uninstalled then reinstalled iTunes and it still didn't work, I then did it again and it STILL DIDN'T WORK.
I have absolutely no idea what to do now, so if anyone has any advice it would greatly appreciated.

When uninstalling iTunes on your windows computer, there is a specific way it must be done in order to completely uninstall all components of the software.  Ensure you follow the article for your correct OS.
    Windows XP - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925.
    Windows Vista or Windows 7 - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.

  • Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. and 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 193)

    Hi!
So i think i closed the wrong service at some point a few weeks back (apple mobile device) but iTunes remained working after that for another week. I then updated iTunes and i get the same  "Service ‘Apple Mobile Device’ (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start.  Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." every time. If i click ignore, just so i can access iTunes with out syncing my iPod (touch 2nd gen) i then get 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Please re-install iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 193)" when it has all installed. I don't understand what the problem is anymore as I have looked at other questions on the apple website, carried out the advice and it hasn't work. Any of them.
    Tings I have done:
    - Wiped all iTunes and Apple data from my computer (if you search for 'iTunes' or 'Apple' nothing comes up apart from applets from system code.
    - Attached iPod before iTunes install and updated drivers.
    - Installed iTunes as 'Run as administrator'
    - Uninstalled and re-installed the software nearly 20 times now and rebooted the computer in between everytime.
Please someone help because i really need to get music on my ipod and i enjoy the ease of use of iTunes compared to spotify or Windows Media Player.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
Regarding AMDS failures there is a hint in another thread that disabling the Windows Firewall before attempting to reinstall may help, otherwise take a look at the steps outlined in this post. Re: Can't install iTunes 12.1 on Windows 7 64-bit. I know they look a little daunting, but the process of generating the logs themselves isn't that hard to do. Extracting useful information from them is still a challenge but maybe something will leap out. If you want to post the log for the failed components for me to have a look at here or in the other thread please edit out any personal information, particularly your email address, first.

  • All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:   1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem   and   2. iTunes was not installed correct

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:
    1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem
    and
    2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).
Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.
This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.
There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.
    Thanks

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

I have the same problem as many other users: updated iTunes on Windows 7 on Jan 26, 2014 and iTunes does not open.  First message "unable to locate component- MSVCR80.dll was not found" then "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes - Error 7 (Windows error 126)". When will Apple fix this? Don’t feel like uninstalling all Apple software and then re-installing it as suggested, as I am on a terribly slow internet connection while travelling in the DR Congo.
