I don't get a 'Backup & Storage' option when I go to Settings > icloud. How do I kick off a manual backup?

do you have a more recent backup and that's what it's saying you can restore from? it's possible that backup overwrote your previous one. in itunes on the computer go to edit > preferences > devices, and see what backups you have there

ITunes Sync Backup Query

Hello All. Was wondering if anyone could help me with this
When I sync my iphone with Itunes on my PC via the USB cable the backup runs first as expected. The sync completes fine and the last backup date is displayed all correctly. If I then leave my iphone connected to my PC via USB as I often do and then sync again it does not run the backup and skips this stage. Thing is I may use my ihpone while it is connected. Maybe recieve a txt or input a calendar event. There is then something to backup so I would therefore expect the iphone to backup again with a sync. So if i run a sync i want it to backup every time no matter what. Im sure it used to backup everytime I ran sync. But now it seems it only does the first time it is connected to my PC. Yes I can click on manual backup and it forces a backup fine but I want it to backup with every time I click sync.
My aim here is to sync my phone when first connected then be able to sync at any further point such as when i am about to leave with my phone and know that further backups are all completed.
Any help would be great and im sure someone will have a simple answer for me so thanks in advance.

I am sure backup always used to run EVERYTIME sync was run but at some point I guess this changed. Maybe iTunes or iOS on iPhone. Other discussions I looked in to were all stating that backup ran everytime a sync ran too so I was confused. Trust me I am easy to confuse but I really am sure it ran everytime in the past because I do watch the sync procedure most of the time so I know what is going on.
I have in a short space of time had quite a few view of this and was surprised no one was directing me. I had tried an iTunes repair and uninstall and reinstall to no avail. I guess this seemed either too obvious to them that I warented no reply or maybe people are not aware that a backup via a sync only runs on the first connect not on subsequent syncs. I hope in a way that maybe this helps others who find this discussion maybe maybe maybe.

Disable auto-sync on the second computer, connect your phone, iTunes running, right-click the phone in the left device pane, select backup. Eject when finished, do not sync.

Hot Backup Query

Hi,
I was under the impression that while doing hot backup, one must maintain all the archive logs since the start of the backup, in order to be able to restore the backup.
However, recently when I did a restore of my hot backup, it asked me for archive logs generated prior to the beginning of the hot backup.
How can this be explained?

Please read my first description - this is exactly
what I have understood from Oracle docs. But let me
explain with example.
When I begin by hot backup, the log number is say 80
and at the end of hot backup, it is 90. That means to
restore and recover the backup, I should need archive
logs from 80 to 90 (as per Oracle docs). In my case,
the recovery asked for archive log 66 and onwards.
Hence the need for clarification.
Why log 66 and not 80?I guess some of backup datafiles are older ones, they maybe were from last backup.
Can you check the time of all backup datafiles?

HT1766 Backup isn't working

I'm trying to transfer the 'backup' from my iPhone 3gs to a newer iPhone 3gs that has information on it but isn't being used. I backed up the old iPhone with the computer and it seemed to work. But when i plug the other phone in and try to restore from backup the only option is a backup from two years ago, not the one I just did. On the old phone it says "Last backed up to this computer: Today 11:57 pm", when I synched it. What can I do?

If you still have the data on your old 3gs, then you can "Reset the sync" history first and delete the old backup.
Then make a fresh backup using your old 3gs and then try to restore your new 3gs from the backup.

HT1766 backup restore problem with itouch

my computer crashed so i lost my itouch backup. i connected the itouch to a new computer, to update the iOS. it asked me to unlock by itouch, which i did successfully on the device. all seemed to go well except last step on computer asked for password, didn't work? what do i do now?? thanks!

new to this but..... after going through about 10 min of backup and messages that indicated it was being successful, it asked me for a password to finish the process, of course i entered my itouch (4 number) password and it said it was incorrect. i had just used it to unlock the itouch at the beginning when it asked me to. so it doesn't make sense? additional info. the itouch is three years old and the first thing it asked before starting was to update the iOS which it seems to done sucessfully ie the home screen is new.

I plan to take a full offline backup of my database using brtools.
I am not clear with 4 parameters of the 'initSID.sap' file.
backup_root_dir
archive_copy_dir
stage_root_dir
archive_stage_dir
I plan to take the backup in a separate filesystem '/sapbackup/SID/'
Kindly help me understand the significance of the above parameters.

This is the parameter that is used only by BRBACKUP to identify the directories in which database backups to disk are performed.
Syntax
backup_root_dir = <dir>|(<dir_list>)
Default value: <SAPDATA_HOME>/sapbackup
archive_copy_dir
This parameter identifies the directory used by BRARCHIVE to back up the offline redo log files to a local disk.
Default: First value of the parameter backup_root_dir
Required value: A directory in which the offline redo log files should be archived.
stage_root_dir
This parameter identifies the directories used by BRBACKUP to back up database backups to a remote disk.
archive_stage_dir
This parameter identifies the directory used by BRARCHIVE to back up the offline redo log files to a remote disk.

HT1766 backup stop and error message say ipad is disconnected

I can backup Iphone 4s to Itunes on the Mac but when connect to Ipad 2 it stop halfway and says backup fail because Ipad is disconnected.
All itunes and Ipad software are latest IOS6 updated.

HT1766 backup not showing up in itunes

I am trying to restore an iphone using itunes but itunes doesn't have the backup I need. When I go to settings and "manage backups" (on the phone I'm trying to restore)I can see the backup I need, but it is not available in itunes for me to select. I purchased extra data in case I would ever lose my phone I could restore it from icloud. I am trying to do this now but I can only restore the phone to the point I when I purchased a new phone. I know the phone is backing up because of the purchased extra data, and I can see the backup date/time on the actual phone but not in itunes. how can I get to the backup I need?

I clicked on your link and it gives two options for restoring a phone's contents. One with icloud one with itunes. Of course I read it? The icloud backup appears in the restore section of itunes along with a list of backups. I can see the backup I need (i.e. for the phone I need. It also includes ipod touch backups) on my phone, as it has all my devices listed. The phone lists the backup I need, but it doesn't appear on the list in itunes, which even the articl you posted says you can backup from itunes. I have done this before, but I have always been able to view the backup I needed. This time I can't access it.

Synch vs backup query lumia 720

I want to buy a lumia 720 but with only 8gb storage, can somebody please confirm how sky drive works? I know I can back up, but is that more of a synch - ie if I delete from my phone (to free space), will that delete from sky drive too?

When you backup photos to SkyDrive they will remain there if you delete them from the phone. By default the resolution of a copied photo is lower though unless you sync over WiFi and have selected to sync in best quality.
There are also apps like THIS to sync full res at any time. In this case as well when you remove the photo from he phone it will remain on SkyDrive. Alternatively you can copy the photos off of the phone using a USB connection with a PC or Mac.

if I require to restore full backup or some of datafiles from previous date backup example today is 19th march 2012 and I need to restore 8th march 2012 backup
how could I get this using rman?

Many ThanksThe only way to recover an individual table from a backup is to restore that backup to a 'throwaway' database, then take an export of the one table, then import that back into the real database.
rman backup backs up and restores files, not individual database objects.

HT1766 Backup question

I have a new iPad and it now has a message telling me I need to do an iCloud backup. I cannot get that message off the screen. Any suggestions how to proceed

Hi. This worked for me after months of trying many different fixes. Give it a shot.
Locate the iTunesPrefs.xml on your PC. In Windows XP the iTunesPrefs.xml location is:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
or:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes.
With iTunes closed, I renamed this file from iTunesPrefs.xml to iTunesPrefs.xml.backup in both locations. Then I opened iTunes, connected my iPhone, and the backup was successful.
Note that doing this will force iTunes to recreate the iTunesPrefs.xml file with all it's default settings. Any user preferences you may have set within iTunes will be removed. You will need to set any user defined preferences again.
Let me know if this works for you.

IPad 4 'iCloud Backup' query

On my iPad 4 there is a message that has come up. the message reads- "This iPad hasn't been backed up in 2 weeks. Backups happens when this iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to Wi-Fi.' When pressing the okay button nothing happens and the message remains on the screen. I am unable to do anything with iPad with the message is on screen. Is there any way I can resolve the problem?

Hold Sleep and Home buttons for 10 seconds until your device restarts, so you will be able to use the device again. After restarting, open Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup, and make a manual backup. Backups will be created when the iPad is plugged to the charger and connected to Internet

Overwriting TM Backups Query

Hello all!
I've just performed a master-reset (erase and install mac os x) on my iMac but I kept my previous TM backups as it contains all my precious files which I wanted to put on the computer again after the reset. If I was to use the hard drive in TM again now, would it erase the previous backups or would it keep them?

Time Machine will either append the old backups or, more likely, start a new set of backups in a new folder in the Backups.backupdb folder on the Time Machine disk. I've not been able to figure out rhyme nor reason about why it chooses to one versus the other. If Time Machine decides to append the old backups and you don't have room on your disk for a new set of backups, Time Machine will delete previous backups to make room for the new backup.
The safest course would be to turn Time Machine off, restore all your needed files to your computer, and then turn Time Machine back on.
