HT1766 Can I change the location of my back up formy I phone

Hi
I have not got enough on my laptop to back up my iPhone on the c drive, I would like to change the back up to save on my external drive I have but am unsure of the exact way to do it
Thanks

Relocate iOS device backups
Assuming you're running Windows Vista or later you can use the following steps:
Open a command prompt by hitting the start button and typing CMD<Enter> in the search box that opens up.
To move the current backup folder from C: to D: type in this command and press <Enter>
Move "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
Where <User> is your Windows user name.
To make iTunes look for the data in the new location type in this command and press <Enter>
MkLink /J "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
If your external drive has a different letter or you already have a folder called "Backup" then edit "D:\Backup" accordingly in both commands.
If you're still running Windows XP you can use Junction (cmd line tool) or NTFSLink (shell ext). In both cases you move the existing folder to a new location, create an empty folder where the old one used to be, then use the tools to get the operating system to link the two together and silently redirect any file operation on the old location through to the new one.
Note that while this method works for iOS device backups it cannot be used to redirect sections of the media library.

  • How can I change the location for the backup from iphone to itunes?

How can I change the location for the backup from iphone to itunes? I want to backup to my external harddisk and not the computer itself. How do I do it?

Moving the iOS device backup location
Open a command prompt by hitting the start button and typing CMD<Enter> in the search box that opens up, or with Start > Run on older Windows.
To move the current backup folder from C: to D: (for example) type in this command and press <Enter>
    Move "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
Where <User> is your Windows user name.
To make iTunes look for the data in the new location type in this command and press <Enter>
    MkLink /J "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
If your preferred drive has a different letter or you already have a folder called "Backup" then edit "D:\Backup" accordingly in both commands.
If you have Windows XP then you'll need a third-party tool such as Junction to link the two locations together instead of the MkLink command. The source folder is C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

  • Can i change the location for backup in my widows 7 ?

How can i change the location for the bacup in my windows 7?Thanks.

First, make sure iTunes isn't running
Now, move the C:\Users\(yourname)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\ folder to your preferred location. My was F:\iTunesMobileSync. This is up to you.
Finally, start a command prompt as an administrator. You can do this from the Start Menu, type cmd.exe, then right click and select Run As Administrator. From the command prompt, create an junction point as I do below, just change f:\yournewfolder with your new location. One thing to to make sure of, don't end up with a folder like f:\yournewbackupfolder\Backup\Backup, so be sure to check how your folders ended up when you moved them.
    mklink /J "C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "f:\yournewfolder\Backup"
You should see something like this in Windows 7. Note the little "shortcut" overlay icon? That's saying this is a link.
You can also confirm it with dir from the command line. Note the <junction>:
    C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync>dir
    Directory of C:\Users\Scott\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync
    11/25/2011  10:10 PM    <DIR>          .
    11/25/2011  10:10 PM    <DIR>          ..
    11/25/2011  10:10 PM    <JUNCTION>     Backup [f:\iTunesMobileSync\Backup]
                   0 File(s)              0 bytes
                   3 Dir(s)  97,594,851,328 bytes free
If you are still on XP and not Vista or Windows 7, you don't have mklink, but you can use the junction utility in the same way.
    This works.

  • Can I change the location of adobe organizer file folders in Elements 11 from my c to d drive ?

Can I change the location of adobe organizer file folders in Elements 11 from my c to d drive ?
My laptop, which uses Windows 7, came with the hard drive divided between a C and D drive.  the C drive, where all the programs load, is nearly full, and I would like all the photos and videos that adobe elements organizer finds and that I download into load on my nearly empmty and spacious D drive.
In other programs I can change this is file prefernces, but I cant find that feature in elements.
Is it possible? and how can I do it?

SG will probably have more to say about his reply, but in the meanwhile you might want to check out Premiere Elements 11/Elements Organizer 11/File Menu/Catalog Manager... and the Custom Location option. I suspect that is what both of you have in mind?
When Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 are installed on the same computer, they share a common Elements Organizer (catalog) although they can be purchased as standalone products each with its own Elements Organizer (catalog).

  • How can I change the location name my iPhone pulls up when I am home. The info that pulls is not correct?

How can I change the location name my iPhone pulls up when I am home. The info that pulls is not correct?

If the size of the iPhone backup is putting you over the edge you have bigger problems than just this backup. You really need to solve the fundamental problem of your C: partition being too small. Even if you could solve the iPhone problem something else will come up soon that will again challenge your disk space. New drives can be had for well under $100, and even a 500 GB drive is only a little more than $100. This would be a good time to upgrade. You can even clone your current drive AND increase the partition size in one step with disk imaging software such as Acronis True Image.

  • How can I change the location where iTunes saves iOS 5.1, new data, synchronized apps and other data?

My hard drive C is full. I changed the location of the mediathek to an external hard drive F and moved all media data there. Also, I synchronized my iPad with this new set-up. So far, everything worked out well.
Now, why is iTunes stll saving data, like the much needed iOS 5.1, to C? This actually makes it impossible for me to finally update my iPad, because my C drive is simply full!
Also, iTunes does not synchronize my iPad apps or my photos. When I try to synchronize them manually, iTunes starts to save data to my C drive. How can I change that to my external drive F?
In a nutshell, how can I move iTunes once and for all to my external hard drive F (or at least, to a different hard drive on my computer)? There is simply no space on my C drive for it at all.
Thankyou so much for an answer, I am literally going nuts right now!

  • How can I change the location of the iPAD backup

It is possible to change the location on the harddisk where iTunes is backuping the iPAD?
    Thanks

are you looking to move the bloated Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup file?  i had this same problem (my iTunes points to an external drive, but the default Backup Profile is still stored locally, and with a 64GB iPhone, it's killing my hard drive.  here's what i found!
there are several posts about this, none are apple sanctioned it appears, all work arounds.  read these:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3100828?tstart=0

the last one has the most simple directions i think.  here's the direct link to his blog post (i can't take credit!)

basically you will "Create a symbolic directory link using the mklink command".  no software to install, just a little dos editing.
    best of luck!

  • How can I change the location of my Backups? (e.g. Word files)

I am wondering how I can change the location of my word doc. back ups. Everytime I make a new word document my computer makes a duplicate titled: " Backup [then the title I gave the word document]." I was wondering if I could make a single file to store all of the back ups. Currently they are in every file that the original is in. Thanks!

It depends on which version of Windows you are using but it will intitally be downloaded to the C: drive.  The data is initially stored in the following locations:
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\com.adobe.downloadassistant.AdobeDownloadAssistant\Local Store
Windows 7 and Vista:  C:\Users\[login]\AppData\Roaming\com.adobe.downloadassistant.AdobeDownloadAssistant\Local Store
You will need to get enough free space on the C: drive to allow the download.

  • Can I change the location of the Info popup window?

Whenever I double click an event to edit or add information, it appears at the far upper left corner of my screen. I have to move my mouse that way to edit it; on a 27 inch screen that is very inconvenient. If I move the window and close it, the next one I open is back in the corner again. Is there a way to change the location where the info window pops up? I'd rather have it close to the appointment in my calendar!
    TIA

  • How can I change the location of files? (buffers, history)

I want to change the location of my history and buffers from my SSD to a flashdisk. [Reason: to overcome wear and rear on my SSD.] How can I do this?
Open question: What other file locations (paths) should I change?

You can disable the disk cache by using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear the Cache.<br />
You can verify that on the about:cache page (disk cache entry is missing).
The history and the bookmarks are stored in the same file and can't be separated.<br />
You would have to move the entire Firefox profile folder to that other drive or use Private Browsing mode.<br />
It is probably a good idea to make regularly backups of valuable profile data in case of drive failure.<br />
Flash drives also do not last forever and are also usually slower.

  • HOW CAN WE CHANGE THE LOCATION OF TEMPORARY FILES DURING BROWSING?

IN ORDER TO WATCH VIDEOS A LARGE AMOUNT OF MEMORY IS REQUIRED. BUT THE DRIVE IN WHICH FIREFOX IS INSTALLED HAS MORE NUMBER OF PROGRAM FILES. IS THERE ANY WAY TO CHANGE THE LOCATION OF THE TEMPORARY FILES THAT GET ACCUMULATED DURING BROWSING?

You probably need to change the value of the %temp% and %tmp% environment variables in:
Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environment variables
You can set the location of the Firefox cache by setting a pref to that location.<br />
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.cache.disk.parent_directory
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

  • How can I change the location where itunes stores my backup?

I don't know how to change the location were itunes stores my backup and my transfer purchases. I don't have enough memory on the hard driver where the windows is installed. Please help me!!!

Transferred purchases usually get stored in the iTunes Media folder although if your library started life back on iTunes 8 or earlier then apps could be stored within the main iTunes library folder. This post gives an overview of how to restructure your library on a different drive. I can give specific instructions if you tell me more about your current setup.
To change where iTunes stores iOS device backups redirect <Profile>\<AppData>\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to a folder on another drive using NTFSLink (shell ext., might only work on XP) or Junction (cmd line tool). In essence you move the existing folder to a new location, create an empty folder where the old one used to be, then get the operating system to link the two together and silently redirect any file operation on the old location through to the new one.

  • Folder redirection with Offline files enabled - Can I change the location of the locally cached files?

I have a 2012 r2 server setup with folder redirection and offline files enabled. All this works perfectly.
As you probably know, the local cache for offline files is stored at c:\windows\csc\v2.0.6\namespace\servername\
The problem I have run into is that one user (who cannot be told to delete files cough ceo cough) has a very large documents folder, and a small SSD drive for his C drive. So the offline files are filling up his SSD. He wants all his files to be synced,
so decreasing the max disk usage is also not an option.
What I would like to do is move the Offline files to his D drive which is a large drive, however I have been unable to find any official method for doing this. Is there any provision to change this?
If not, would it work to move the entire \servername\ path to the d drive and then create a junction at c:\windows\csc\v2.0.6\namespace\servername\ that points to d:\servername\?
    Thanks,
    Travis

    Hi,
The following article is for Windows Vista but it should work at least in Windows 7.
How to change the location of the CSC folder by configuring the CacheLocation registry value in Windows Vista
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937475
Meanwhile creating a symbolic link should also work like:
    mklink /d "C:\Windows\CSC" "D:\CSC"
Note: It will create d:\csc folder so you do not need to manually create it.
Note 2: As mentioned above, you may need to re-sync the offline files. Personally I also think robocopy will not work.

  • Can I change the location of the scratch disc without causing problem?

    Hi,
I just noticed that I set my scratch disc in (on?) the internal drive, but I prefer to have it on an external. I'm in the middle of editing a project now, will it cause confusion to FCE HD if I change the location of the scratch disc?
    Thank you for your help.

    No.
You will have stuff in two locations and just as long as all changes are done within FCE it will know where to find things.
