I just lost all contacts. I tried the backups but as soon as restore was completed, it would lose notes again. I disconnected after recover but still no notes.
Out of desperation, as I have all my passwords etc on it (yes, I know) but I trusted the iTunes backup system. I looked on the net and found a recovery company called Wondershare, Dr Phone. I tested it and there it all was, but it has now cost me $69 to purchase key number to download my info.
All contacts info and everything else is available. It saves it in a file which you open.
Now I have to type it all in again. I will keep manual backups now as well as using Dropbox from now on. Nightmare. I hope this helps you all.

I just want to find the easiest and safest way of not losing all my photos while being able to take more than my iPhones storage worth as it is already full - can someone help me please? I thought icloud was the solution to not uploading my photos to the mac but I'm not sure if the way it's going is working and don't want to delete photos or lose my phone and then find out what I'm doing isn't actually storing my photos permanently. As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -

Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -

So I decided to do factory setting, before doing so I had backed up my phone on my computer then I had erased everything from my iphone. But now I want to start everything from the beginning, and on my setting my Apple ID is present however when I put my password in it doesn't let me log in. The message that I receive says that I would have to remove my Apple ID as it will not let me log in with that I'd even though I am the original owner, I have tried everything on find my iPhone as well, even there my Apple ID not showing on the devise.
If anyone has had a similar experience could you please advise me on what to do,

You must have the credentials that were used to turn on Find my iPhone on the device. Without them, you can not get past the activation lock.

TS2529 I backed up my phone to my computer, then when I tried to restore the backed up version it hadn't backed up all of my content. What have I dont wrong and how do i find it?

I had a software problem with my Iphone 5 and so was told by someone in the apple shop that I should restore my phone to factory setting. So, i plugged into my computer and itunes, then backed up my phone to my computer. I wiped it and then clicked restore back up version. I did this the same way around 6 weeks ago when I was switching from my old Iphone 4s to my new 5, and didn't have a problem with it then. So, when I go onto my phone after it had finished restoring the backed up version I realised that the backed up version did not contain all of the data from my phone. For example, no text messages at all, no settings restored, and worst of all not a single photo. Not sure how this has happened, I cant seem to find the backed up version I did earlier today before wiping my phone. The only versions of my phone listed in the back up bit are the new crap version with all my stuff missing, or my old version from when I transferred from the 4s to the 5. I have managed to restore that version to my phone so at least I have everything I had up to 6 weeks ago. But i would really like the version from earlier today before it was wiped as I'm missing some important information and contact numbers. If anyone can help with this I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you turn on the new iMac for the first time, Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so connect the external disk and follow steps to restore all your files to your new iMac. Your new Mac will have the same settings and programs as your old computer.
In other cases, I would recommend to restore the whole backup without using Migration Assistant or Setup Assistant, but a Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build, so the OS X version that you're using on your old Mac won't work on the new one. Trash the copy of the library you just moved. Then Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
But do you want to have two iPhoto Libraries? Why not just use the one on the External?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Time Machine should be enough to make a backup of your files. Also, it should back up all folders, so open System Preferences > Time Machine > Options, and make sure that there are no folders included in the excluded items list.
If you want to create a bootable clone of your hard drive, you need to use an app like Carbon Copy Cloner or the Disk Utility's Restore feature > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU7.html

There's no "New File" shortcut in Finder on Macs, so you have to launch the application you want (eg TextEdit), create your document, and save it there. There are workarounds using Terminal (the touch command), AppleScript/Automator, and using third-party launch programs like Quicksilver, but natively, it can't be done.

Contacts and other infomration in the backup file are in a special file format. You would not be able to access them with standard programs. Also, contacts are not backed up that well, you should sync them to a supported application on the computer, such as Address Book, Windows Contacts, Outlook.
