My Mac has recently been restored in an Apple Store. I'm wanting to backup my iPhone 4 so I can use that data on my new iPhone 5. Though as my apple ID and everything has been reset to Factory Settings, if I plug my iphone in, will it erase everything?

Okay, so I got Apple to restore my whole Mac operating system, and it obviously reset all my settings and computer to factory settings. As I now have an iPhone 5 and wanting to backup my iPhone 4, I can't do this as my Mac does not have any recorded backup's from before as they were deleted in the restoration. So i want to plug my iPhone 4 in to back it up. The main question is if I plug my iPhone 4 in, will it erase everything? and if so, how do i prevent this from happening as I have very important data on my iPhone 4 i can't lose.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Yes I have the current updated version of iTunes which is 11.1.5. So yeah when I connect my iPhone directly to the MacBook Pro I have tunes pops up and wants me to restore the phone iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone “Enzo’s iPhone”. Go to the Summary tab in iPhone preferences and click Restore to restore this iPhone to factory settings. it doesn't give me any option to click to manually back up or restore. It only happens to my iPhone because I'm a Apple Developer and I called Apple just now and they said it works for non developers but for developers the new update isn't for some reasons working like it should Apple Care wasn't able to give me any help regarding this they told me to contact the developing team so I did but it haven't heard back from the team. My friends iPhone 5 works when I plug it into my computer and it shows what should be showing the normal user interface like manually backup or restore ect... but when I load it up this shows ? iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPhone “Enzo’s iPhone”. It shouldn't take this long, something is wrong with your iTunes. Try this:
Close your iTunes,
Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and do the sync again and if it is working now.

When I try to pull up old backups, I only see one from this morning and an old one from May 2012 when I still had my iPhone 3GS. I have not been using iCloud since it was set up improperly when I first switched to the 4S, the contacts weren't being synced AT ALL. visited the genius bar, they said I need a whole other appointment to visit them and solve that, I haven't had a chance to do that yet. Thus, I am backing up to iTunes.
This morning's sync/backup resulted in me losing most of my contacts, and for the contacts that remain, 99% of the phone numbers are gone. I can recover my calendar entries from this past week, but I don't know how I can recover all of them from my May 2012 backup.
Since I had a backup just last week, I'd like to just go back to it. But how? Or, is there another way to get my contacts restored? And why did they disappear? And what else may be gone that I just don't know about yet?

I am trying to backup my iPhone on my new iMac iTunes. It is currently backed up on my PC and encrypted. Both PC and iMac iTunes have Encrypted backup selected. My password does not work for either iMac or PC. Should I go ahead and try to backup to my iMac iTunes.

Sorry to hear about your phone jb111jb! We'll do everything we can to help find the best route! The only way to remove the password is flashing the device, but that will erase all the content. Have you ever backed up using Verizon Cloud or Google Sync? Do you have a memory card?

Delete your most recent backup in iTunes (iTunes Preferences>Devices, click on the backup, click Delete Backup), if using a PC click Reset Sync History (also in Devices), then close iTunes, restart your device, connect your device again, open iTunes and try syncing again.

I am not sure whether the music will get restored.
Anyway try this
1.Connect iPhone to PC.
2.Open iTunes
3.Open iPhone Summary
4.Go to Apps Tab
5.Under File Sharing Section Click on Music Downloader
6.Right side if you see your songs click on one song and press (CTRL + A).(hope you are using windows) and click on save and then save to a folder on your computer.
7. Later just do steps till 5 to put to new iPhone then ...........
8.Click on save and select the music files which u want to put in that app.
9.Click on apply to sync.
10.You should be having the music in that app
