Apps are not included in the backup. Apps are in iTunes, so you do not need to back them up, just restore them via iTunes.

iCloud backups retain app data. The only caveat to this is that each app's developer determines individually if they decide that their app will store data in an icloud backup. You can check this out by going to settings > icloud > storage and backup > manage storage > select your backup > then ensure that the app you're concerned about is switched to 'on'

After syncing my ipod touch with a new computer, will an icloud backup restore my app data including game progress?

I have an ipod touch which I have USB synced in the past on my Windows Vista laptop.
Now I want to stop USB Syncing with the laptop and USB start syncing instead with my Windows 7 Desktop machine instead.
Both PCs have the latest version of itunes running and I have transferred all purchases from the ipod to the Windows 7 desktop machine.
Home sharing is turned on on both PCs, so now their libraries appear identical.
The ipod has the latest IOS installed, and I have set up automatic icloud back ups for the ipod.
If i USB sync the ipod with the windows 7 desktop PC it warns me that all data will be erased, and replaced with data from that computer. I know that this will mean that all game progress is lost since it is not included in a USB sync backup and virgin copies of all the apps will be loaded onto the ipod.
My Question is this;
What is the best way to keep the app data intact on the ipod?
Do I simply carry out a USB sync with the Windows 7 desktop PC, let it wipe all the game save info away, and then resore an icloud backup onto the ipod?
Will this result in me being able to sync with the Windows 7 desktop PC and keep my game save data intact?

All the apps have to be in the iTunes library so the app data will have a place to go.
- Or just restore from iCloud backup. That will also pull down the apps from iCloud. Your apps data will also be restored.

First, transfer your photos from the old iPhone to your computer, for safe-keeping:

Then use iTunes to sync the photos back to your new iPhone.
However, if you've done a full iCloud backup of the old iPhone, then restore the new iPhone from the old iPhone backup while you are in the Setup Assistant. The Camera Roll should transfer over. But be sure to do a manaul import first, as described above.

A restore will automatically install the current version of iOS, so if you restore an iPhone with iOS 7.0.x, it will be upgraded to iOS 7.1 and the backup will then be copied over. Your new iPhone 5S, by the way, will come with iOS 7.1 unless it's old stock.

Large iCloud backup size for some apps

Was poking around trying to get my backup down to size and noticed a few apps are major offenders:
Facebook - 28 MB
Words for Friends - 3.6 MB
Yelp 8.7 MB
NYC Mate - 68.3 MB
I'm not a programmer but it seems to me the only thing that should be getting backed up is perhaps my login credentials. This shouldn't be an enormous file that gets uploaded each night. One of those apps NYC Mate doesn't even have a login, so I wonder what it's sending to the cloud.
So, this is more of a curious gripe than a complaint. Should we be telling app developers to slim down what gets backed up each night in the interest of preserving bandwidth? Or is this a non-issue?

To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup. Then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail. To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again. If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. When I delete an app and I look at the iCloud backup settings the app is still in the cloud. But I want that the app is automatically deleted from icloud

I had an iPhone 3 which had an hardware error, but I have an older iCloud backup of it.
Now I got a used iPhone4 from a friend of mine, which he "cleaned" before he gave it to me.
This is the first time I got to use this service - thank god I made an iCloud backup before my old iPhone died.
Now I want to know if it is possible to restore my old iPhone 3 backup on my iPhone 4.
Maybe there are some problems, because of different iOS (6 vs 7) or different hardware?
Did the iCloud backup include my previously installed apps, or do I have to download them again? What about SMS - included or not?

Yes, you can. The only requirement is that the device you are restoring the backup to must be running the same or higher version of iOS as the device that was backed up. If it isn't, you'll need to update the iOS before you can restore the backup.
An iCloud backup will reinstall apps that were on the device that was backed up by redownloading them from the App store. As long as the apps are still available in the App store they will be redownloaded, although if the device that was backed up had an older version of an app, the most recent version of the app is likely to be restored to your device.

I'm having a problem: the photos I take (either with the camera, saved from Safari or screenshots) aren't saved in
the Camera Roll.
I'm using iCloud, not iTunes, and only for contacts and basic data. The rest is disposable/already backed up.
But I *need* the iCloud backup, even if it's for a few data. It's important.
I have no wireless at home. I must connect the iPhone with the data cable.
I have backed up all the photos via the simple windows camera wizard and erased all of them from the phone (via
phone, not windows explorer).
Now, in the Settings>General>info page, it appears i have over 2 *billions* pictures on the phone (as I said, I
erased all of them) :-/
Since Apple Care ran out (I bought the phone on Jan 2011) and I never updated/restored/erased the phone, maybe
it's time for a cleanup.
I thought about this procedure:
1) Settings>General>Restore: erase content & settings
2) Restore my iCloud backup and live happily
Now, I want to restore the iCloud backup and my apps via PC (Windows 8 Home Ed.).
THE QUESTIONS ARE:
1) What do I install on the PC to do that? iTunes or just iCloud Control Panel?
2) And, if I need both, what procedure would you suggest?
