HT1766 Is there a way to restore to a new device without downloading all the pictures?

I downgraded my phone from a 64gb to a 16.
I would like to know if I can restore my settings and apps without downloading the pictures, music etc.

Restoring from backup is an all or nothing process.  You cannot pick and choose to select certain parts of the backup to be restored.

If you have Time Machine and it ran after the backup you want and before the current backup you can restore it from the Time Machine backup.

You can back up your iPad, then restore the backup to your 5c.  This will not transfer camera roll photos or apps that are not compatible with an iPad, but it will transfer other data, settings, apps and other purchased media.

  • I would like to take a iTunes play list and put it on a USB drive for my car radio to stay in my car. Is there a way to do this through iTunes so you have all the song info and there's no number in front of the name of the song? Is there a program?

iTunes only syncs to Apple devices.
Assuming the media is not DRM protected, any of the media can be dragged and dropped from iTunes onto other drives (external, flash, etc) as the user chooses.

    Check USB connections
If there’s an issue with the USB port, cable, dock, or hub, or if the device becomes disconnected during restore, try troubleshooting the USB connection, then troubleshooting your security software.
    Common errors: 13, 14, 1600-1629, 1643-1650, 2000-2009, 4000, 4005, 4013, 4014, 4016, “invalid response”, and being prompted to restore again after a restore completes.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
    Use another USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port on your computer.
Try a different dock connector (or no dock).
Add (or remove) a USB hub between your device and computer.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, with no routers, hubs, or switches.
If you see your error after changing your USB connections, continue to the next section to troubleshoot your hardware.

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with a bank or any other savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • My iPhone 4 crashes very often (3-4 times per day) and sometimes (2-3 times per month) all my apps disappear and I have to restore them with iTunes. I downloaded all the system updatings and I also tried to restore my device, but I still have this issue

If you haven't already, try restoring your iPhone as a new device, not from a backup, and with only the apps Apple includes. Then see if the problems persist. It's possible that a corrupted file on the iPhone is causing the problems, and that could perhaps be coming back onto the iPhone if you're restoring using a backup. Problems with an app could also be causing problems. If the problems persist after restoring the iPhone as "new", then you almost certainly have a defective iPhone and will need to contact Apple for servicing.
If the problems go away after restoring the iPhone as "new", then you can start putting your other apps back on and see if the problems reappear; if they do, you probably have a badly-coded app.

  • Is there a way to restore from an iTunes backup without installing iOS6?

Prior to the release of iOS 6, I could restore an iOS device from a backup (on computer).
The iPad is running iOS 5.1.1. Although the user has a recent backup, she does not want to upgrade to iOS 6 at this time.
Is there a way to restore without upgrading to the latest firmware?

I would think this would work:
While connected to iTunes, right-click the device's icon and choose "Restore from backup ..."
I've never personally done that, but I would think you would not be forced to upgrade your iOS.

  • HT1766 is there any way of restoring from an older back up?

i have accidentally overwritten my correct back up while attempting to restore my iphone. is there any way of recovering this seemingly now long lost information?

You can restore from an older backup, if you HAVE an older backup. In Windows XP, backups are located in
    C:\Documents and Settings\YourUsername\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
I believe iTunes overwrites backups each time, so you may be out-of-luck unless you renamed one of your backups. I do always do this (rename a backup after making it) so have many multiple old backups to rely on in a pinch.

  • Is there a way to use ipod with new computer without erasing entire library

I'm not really tech-savvy, but I'm tossing my old computer and getting a new one - is there a way to use my ipod on my new computer without erasing my existing library? It won't let me make changes to my ipod and wants me to erase everything that is on there right now - HELP!

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in iTunes enable it for disk use, this is required for most if not all the utilities listed below so they can access the files: Using your iPod as a storage drive
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Every time i download a compilation cd or a rap cd where there is multiple rappers on any given song the entire cd gets split into individual files. Is there a way to put it into one singular file like all the other cds?

Every time i download compilation cds each song saves sepertaly because each song is by a diferant artist. Is there a way to save it under 1 file like all the other cds?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • Is there a way to have tv shows that have been downloaded onto the Ipad to delete them off the Ipad but still have them in icloud and on the computer?

I have downloaded tv shows onto my Ipad and I now want to move them off my Ipad. Is there a way to do that or not, once you transfer everything to a computer?

They are not stored in iCloud, not really.
If the are in the iTunes library on the computer, simply context the device to the computer and manage the content on the device via iTunes.

  • Is there any way to load music onto my iPad without going to the computer and iTunes?

    Hi,
My iPad is sync's with iTunes over WiFi. Is there any way of pulling songs/albums down to the iPad from my iTunes music collection (not iTunes purchases)?
Or am I forced to have to drive this from a seat in front of iTunes directly?
    Thanks
    Phil

The sync manually is fine. I don't use iTunes match. I just want to drive the selection of songs and the sync from the ipad rather than from the computer. There are 5 iPads in the home owned by different family members with different music tastes. It would be good if they could make the selections themselves.
The goal is to have the songs synchronised with the iPad so that they are available away from the home and off of a network.
    Cheers
