HT1766 Lost Contacts after upating to iOS5.1

I have updated my iPhone 4 to iOS5.1. Prior to doing this, I made sure that I backed up my iPhone onto my iTunes. However, once the update was complete, all of my contacts had been deleted. How do I get my contacts back and how do I stop this happening again with the next upate???

If you have them in iCloud, open System Preferences > iCloud and activate Contacts

  • How do i find lost contacts after i installed ios5 through my macbook pro?

I upgraded my iphone by syncing through my MacBook Pro. When it finished all the messages and original contacts as well as games and software were deleted. It even took away my wallpaper which was a picture of my grandson. I am really upset!

Did you perform the update on the computer you normally sync to? Did you get any errors during the process? Did you wait for the restore to complete after updating? Were your apps in the iTunes library BEFORE you started the update? Were you syncing your contacts to a compatible address book or cloud service?
We need more information to even begin to guess what happened.

  • Lost contacts after ios5 update

I have lost all of my contacts after the ios5 update. for instance if i dail the number there name will pop up but when i go to contacts there is nothing there! please help!

You need to turn off synching through the iCloud and synch through iTunes to your Outlook of Address Book however this will still leave you with linked/duplicate contact cards in your phone and your favorites contacts in the phone as well as all caller id photos etc. will be linked to the old contacts.  In order to get rid of those contacts what I did was added the simple change to the contacts I synched from the computer (I added an exclamation point to the notes sections).  Then synch to your iPhone through iTunes not through the iCloud, then search your iPhone for the first contact name you have in your list.  You will see this will bring up 2 contacts for the same person.  Select either contact then hit the back button.  You will then be in the contact list but you will see in this work around there will be 2 contacts listed for everyone.  Select the contact card and then delete it that does not have the added change so you can tell what is new and old.  This will leave you with the new contact cards and remove the corrupted/lost contacts.  You will lastly need to turn on the iCloud synch and either leave or remove those changes you made (like my exclamation points) from your new contacts.  This is a pain in the tail but the only way I was able to completely fix the issue.
    Good luck!

  • Cannot edit contacts after download to iOS5

The 'edit' button for contacts disappeared after upgraded to iOS5.  Any help please??

If you added a gmail, yahoo, etc. account go into settings>mail, contacts and make sure you're not syncing through yahoo for example.. Turn that off, if that still doesn't work delete the yahoo account and simply set up the account again..will add the + & edit functions again..

  • I lost all my contacts after doing the iOS5 upgrade.

I have an iphone 3Gs and upgraded it to iOS 5 over the weekend. After the upgrade - everything was there apart from my contacts. I tried all the usual suggestions relating to switching icloud on and off etc but nothing worked. Finally decided to do a restore from backup, but the only backup iTunes shows is from after I did the iOS 5 upgrade. What happened to all the backups from prior to upgrade? I know it backed up before the upgrade, but now that one is missing?? Is there anyway to retrieve previous backups in iTunes?? Is devastating to lose all my contacts.... Any help would be appreciated!!

If you have your contacts in Outlook or Address Book you should be able to sync them back.  If you only had them on your phone, and if you backed up your iPhone by syncing with iTunes before you went to the Apple store, you might be able to extract your contacts from this old backup using 3rd party software such as: http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com/.

  • Lost Contacts after Upgrade and Mobile Me

After installing the latest iPhone software 2.2 and setting up to do mobile me I lost all of my contacts and phone numbers. Can I do a restore and get all of my contact information back? My contacts were not already on my macbook pro as it is new and I am setting it up as well. NEED HELP!

When turning on over the air syncing for contact info and calendar events with a MobileMe account on an iPhone, there is a warning message provided that indicates all contact info and calendar events on your iPhone will be erased and replaced with your MobileMe online address book and calendar.
You need to sync the Address Book and iCal on your Mac with your MobileMe online address book and calendar first.
The same applies when turning on over the air syncing for contact info and calendar events with an Exchange account.
iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which includes contact info. The backup is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process.
Which computer were you syncing your iPhone's contact info with before turning on over the air syncing for contact info with your MM account on your iPhone?
You should be able to sync the supported address book on that computer with your MM online address book, which will be followed by transferring your MM online address book to your iPhone's address book.

  • Exchange 08 Lost contacts after activated user on new machine?

Motherboard (Windows XP Pro/Outlook07) of a user died and we moved that user on to a new machine (windows 7Pro/Outlook13)
The users emails and personal folders all populated but for some reason the contacts didn't populate. The only contacts that seem to come over were the ones from the users iPhone. Seems like somehow the contacts got hijacked by the iphone. I know if you
install the icloud plugin for outlook that is common but this user doesn't have admin rights to perform software installations.
I still have the old hard drive if they were somehow stored locally.

    Hi,
From your description, after moved a user to another PC machine, part of Outlook clients are lost. Only contacts added by mobile device remains. If I misunderstood, please point it out.
What’s the version of your Exchange organization?
Have you checked contact in OWA and see if all contacts are there?
If the user moved or archived Contacts item to one or more .pst files, please reconnect them to new installation of Outlook.
Personal Folders files are stored in the following locations:
    Microsoft Windows XP     drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

by switching off the contacts in the mail accounts you original contacts list should be restored.

Don't waste time with all of that crap....
    Just update your date/time settings:
    Settings
    > General
    >> Date & Time
    >>> Set Automatically:  Slide "ON"...If it's already on, then slide it off, chill for a bit (maybe restart it), then slide it back on.
I literally* just did this, saw a link for this thread, and figured i'd come see if it worked for you.  Mine hasn't worked since early January and for a while I wasn't getting texts from some other iPhone users either.
I have an iPhone 4, but I assume it will still work for you.  I also have iOS 5.1 (just updated after plugging into iTunes on my mac), so that may make a difference, but I think it's just a network thing.  When you disable "Set Automatically" for time, I figure that you are also denying access to a part of the network that is necessary for iMessage.
    **EDIT**
I also forgot to mention that, despite Apple's excluvisity, you still need to rely on an internet connection to use this little feature.  After you activate, it will even have an option to send as a regular text (SMS) when iMessage isn't available (when there is no or very little internet).  I'm assuming that sliding to "no" will just save the message until you connect again.

  • Lost contacts after update to 4.3.2

I updated my iPhone4 software to version 4.3.2 and now I have lost all of my contacts. How do I get them back? I have already tried right-clicking on my iPhone from within iTunes and selecting Restore From Backup... and that did not work. I have read that other people are having the same problem. What is up with the update 4.3.2?

Robert..I too am having the same problem since updating my iphone 4 software to v 4.3.2.
I am running a 2007 E Class with HPF v1 bluetooth module. Phone paired OK but contacts messed up.
Contacted Apple and they said it was a Mercedes problem.
Contacted my local Mercedes dealership and they said it was a known Apple softare update problem. They suggested I update my HPF module to the latest v2 which I did but it has made no difference to the messed up contacts list.
Booked an appointment with an Apple 'Genius' but he said he had not heard of the problem. Iasked if the software update could be reversed but was told no.  The 'Genius' did offer to change my phone for one with the old software v 4.2 but unfortunaetly all the phones they had in stock had the newer version.
I am returning my iPhone 4 back to Vodafone as it is no good if I can't use it in the car to keep in touch with clients.
Back to good old Nokia for me.

  • Can't add/edit contact after upgrade to IOS5 - HELP!

After upgrading to ios 5, I can't add or edit the contact. The buttons are gone! How to get them back? I tried numerous restart also no use.

I was having issues with Calendar after updating to iOS 5.0.1 also.  I finally was able to get Calendar functioning again by turning it OFF within Settings > iCloud.  This action keeps all my calendars on my iPod. I also reverted to backing up my iPod Touch to my computer within iTunes, then restoring, and re-syncing after I made the changes.  Now, I am able to add, edit, and delete events in my calendar just as I was able to do before updating to iOS 5.0.1.  Restoring my iPod Touch only worked temporarily for me (before I change the settings), as the problem returned the very next time I attempted to add an event.  This fix probably will not allow syncing with other Apple devices through iCloud, but it is less drastic than deleting my iCloud account.

  • Lost Contacts After Software Update

i have nokia 6300 and i have recently updated the software. Unfortunately i could make a back up the data. i have lost now all my contacts in the phone memory. i need them desparately. Is there any possibility via which i can recover my contacts.
    Thanks

I'm afraid not. If you didn't do a backup before updating the phone's firmware then they're gone.
