HT1766 manage contacts backup with I cloud

What steps must I take in order to revise and or manage my address book containing my contacts?
Thank you Russ

If you subscribe to iCloud, turn it on in the settings of all of your devices, Mac and iOS (Sorry, I don't know PCs.) Now any changes that you make to the Contacts on one device should eventually perpetuate to all of the other devices synced to this one iCloud account.
You can access these contacts through;
Mac = Contacts (Mt Lion) Address Book (Lion and previous OS X)
iOS = Contacts
iCloud.com = Contacts

My kids accidentally reseat my i phone and when try to backup with I cloud it didn't back my photos constants and every thing. Plz help me I rally want my photos back again

Your problem is that she used your icloud ID to connect to icloud and thus had all your data synced to her device.  Contacts are not saved in a backup to icloud, since they are stored independently in the Contacts section of icloud.  If someone deletes them, they are gone.  If you had them on the PC would they be available in some backup you frequently make of the PC?

  • Recovery Manager provides backup with empty folders

My girlfriend's Compaq Presario was recently infected with some sort of virus which made accessing anything impossible, even in safe mode.  System Restore was also a bust.  Instead of seeking advice from anyone who knew more than me, I decided to perform a recovery with back up.  When prompted to back up the files to a partition, no drives were listed except the DVD drive.  So I plugged in my external and the back up process seemed to work just fine.  I then unplugged it when it was finished and it began to install Windows.  The fresh install worked just fine, so I plugged in my external and began to transfer the backup files. The recovery manager unpacked all the data with no issues save one:  Every folder is empty!  I have a feeling the data is there, since if it were empty folders to begin with, it wouldn't have taken so long to unpack.  I have since attempted to access them using Power ISO with limited success.  Please someone help!

Sorry. I can't help you with that. The set that I have is for my dv7-4180es loaner laptop. Each set is specifically tailored to a particular laptop/mini/elitebook or desktop PC. My set won't work in your notebook.
You will have to use the recovery disk set you created or purchase a set from HP. You can also purchase a set from HP Partners.

  • My phone wouldn't back up with iCloud because it ran out of storage . I purchased more iCloud storage after a week and after doing an iTunes backup and now it won't backup with the cloud

My phone ran out of iCloud storage. After a week I did an iTunes backup then bought more iCloud storage and now it won't back up with the iCloud.

Do you have sufficient storage now?  And did you turn on iCloud backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup?

  • Have LG Extravert with Backup Assistant but can't access BA online to manage contacts

I have backed up my contacts on the ol' phone, hoping to print them and/or import into my contacts on the Mac (and ultimately sinc the new iPhone to the Mac).  Can not for the life of me find the Manage Contacts online from which to print/import.  Keep getting into a cyclical loop opening new windows and trying to get me to sign up for Verizon Cloud, something I don't need and certainly not something that is getting me to the contacts I need to see.  Trying to call in for help and after long waits on hold, getting dropped, and getting texts that ask me to call a number....and that number wants to sell me Verizon equipment.  Sooo irritating!  Where is the Backup Assistant list of contacts -- that's all I need and it seems to be allusive for me and others looking for the same thing.

You need to subscribe to iTunes Match to store your music on iCloud:

How i can download my backup data? And how to manage the data on i Cloud?

You can't download an iCloud backup, except to restore it to your device should you ever need to.
iCloud data can be managed within the apps on your iPad.  Any changes to the data within the apps corresponding to the data you are syncing with iCloud will take place in iCloud.  You can also manage some of this data on icloud.com from your computer.
This article explains ways to manage your iCloud storage space, should you need to reduce you iCloud storage: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.

  • HT201250 Continuing backups with a time capsule or other network cloud storage device

For over a year I used an external drive for my time machine backups. I purchased an external cloud (WD MyCloud) and yesterday I started to do a backup with it.
I read a post which stated that if you keep your external drive plugged in and then chose to replace the drive with the network drive, it will copy all the history to the network drive.
This did not exactly happen with me. So now, I have all the backups from the beginning of my computer till yesterday on an external 1TB drive, and for some reason I go as far back as about a month ago on my WD MyCloud.
I cannot copy from the external disc to the MyCloud because of the format issues. The MyCloud is formatted in exFAT so that it will work both with Macs and PCs, while my external disc is formatted for Mac only (HFS, I presume).
Is there any way that I can either somehow put the history back onto the network drive time machine backup?
Thanks for your help with this.

The apple refurbished store has the Gen4 2TB for $209..
    http://store.apple.com/au/product/FD032X/A/refurbished-time-capsule-2-tb
and if you are prepared to live without the warranty I see Gen4 2TB go on ebay in Australia for $150.. plus or minus. Certainly the refurbished store price sets a pretty clear upper limit.
For your situation the TC plugged into the adsl modem would still work the best. AC wireless in the latest model will do you nothing unless your MBP is brand new.. all the older ones have 450mbit on 5ghz N wireless and it works extremely well as long as you can put the TC close enough.. otherwise the 2.4ghz works fine. There is no improvement in the latest model.. same disk size.. same usb2 port.. same N wireless speed. Even range for many people is no better. Regardless of all the antennas in the latest one. Without AC wireless clients up close the two perform line ball with each other.
As long as you do the initial backup by ethernet the incremental backup are fine.
As per Bob comment.. there is no modem with USB that is going to work for this. Even on a modem that does support a USB disk, they will NOT support TM extensions.. nor will it be reliable even if it did. People quickly discover that TM is really an all Apple invention.. and locating TM backups on other devices is just bound not to be successful. Heck it is not even that reliable now with Mavericks on a TC.

  • Wanted: A contact manager/address book with a sense of time

There is one feature which I didn't find in any contact management application out there, and which keeps me using paper-based solutions: A way to see how old old any specific piece of information is. Use case: „This phone number of X I wrote down/saved here, is it the most recent one, or am I risking calling the next tenant of the flat (who I really don't want to talk to for some reason)? When did I make this phone number entry?“
I believe I have looked at almost any contact manager available in the Arch repos and the AUR, but I may still have missed one. If any of you know of a contact app with a sense of time, please speak up.
Otherwise, maybe some of the developers among you also find that this feature would be nice to have, and feel inspired to code something. That would be great!
If I had any say in the details, the data backend would be something easily accessible by other programs (text files, maybe vcard), it would integrate nicely with email clients for adding and completing addresses, and it would have a simple UI (don't care if graphical, console or pure CLI, as long as it works). For reference, I quite liked "contacts" from the Pimlico project, which doesn't seem to be developed anymore (project website is down). Also, osmo looks nice, although it is doing too many different things for my taste (contacts, calendar, tasks, notes).
One way to implement this would obviously be to combine and integrate any app which saves its data in text files with a version control system like git. However, that might be overkill.

You don't have to implement as much search logic, only a search mask and a result list.
    True.
skanky wrote:Maybe the triggered script could then run "git blame" and insert the information into a custom field in the contact data file
I wouldn't store the time info redundantly in the contacts file when it is already stored in the git repo. The frontend program can just call "git blame" at runtime to get the time info to be displayed.  Redundancy could lead to corrupt (contradictory) time data if something goes wrong in the saving process, and at worst, it might create an infinite loop (when the file is changed, "git blame" is called and the time info inserted into the file, which is thus changed, which triggers "git blame" being called again…)

I'm kind of sad that the best / easiest / simplest solution so far sounds like just keeping a digital version of the original paper-based solution, AKA a plain text file. :/ Benefits over paper include being able to do a search and never having to wonder if that scribble was a "5" or a "6". :P
Well, I'm not that sad I guess. I do love plain text. It never goes out of style! :D
While I share to your sadness and your love for plain text, bare text files seem to lack certain features that I would consider crucial: MUA integration and easy grouping/tagging (or similar) of contacts. Both could of course be implemented as simple shell utilities operating on text files, and the result might be a really awesome contact managing solution…

I have a Mac 10.5.8 op system.  My Contacts do not syn with I cloud.  Trying to get my address book complete on both systems and now I have lots of duplicates on I cloud adress book.  How do I efficiently merge the duplictes that are now on I cloud?

You cannot use iCloud with Leopard 10.5.8. The minimum requirement is Lion 10.7.2. If you have been syncing your contacts with iCloud you can only have been doing it by some sort of unsupported hack, and if it doesn't work it's unlikely to be possible to find an explanation. If you have been using other (compliant) devices by trying to sync using both iTunes and iCloud you are likely to get duplicates.
A computer old enough running Leopard may well not be upgradeable to Lion or Mountain Lion, but if you can do so this is the only way you are going to be able to make proper use of iCloud.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
To purchase it you will have to ring Apple at the number given at the bottom left of this page.
The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). (If you are currently pre-Snow Leopard you will have to upgrade to that to access the Mac App Store: it's available in the online Apple Store.)
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

Does the Contact Managemet system need to be on the PC?  We have software called BlackBook - it's a server-based contact management system on the Mac, and it has a CardDAV server so we can get the contacts on our iPads and iPhones.

in my i cloud contacts show only 98 but in my i phone thay show 1400 . why thay not sync with i cloud,

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.
