HT1766 My iphone constantly says searching
I cannot make or receive calls - my phone constantly says searching. Any ideas what's wrong?
I am sure by now you have sorted your problem but if not I think I can help. For the last three weeks I have been pulling my hair out trying to solve the same problem. I tried refreshing the network connection several times. I tried a reboot by holding down the home button. I tried turning on and off airplane mode but still my iPhone 4 kept searching. It sometimes made a connection but soon lost it again. I contacted my service provider EE and after several attempts to solve the problem they sent me a new sim card but the fault was still there. Today I THINK I HAVE FIXED IT after reading the help line I connected my phone to iTunes, backed up my information on my PC then used the iTunes option to RESTORE my phone. It took ages to do and even when completed the phone still seemed to have the fault but them like magic I again reset my network connection again and hey presto since then my phone has had a constant connection. I know its early days it is Seven o'clock at night and I only did this this afternoon but I am keeping my fingers crossed. I was getting to the point where I wanted to throw my phone in the bin but now it has a new lease of life and hopefully it will last until I get a look at the new iPhone 6. My faith, at least for the moment, has been restored(quite literally) in Apple. Good luck with your problem to anyone who reads this.RB

My iPhone 5s says "searching".
I read in a troubleshooting forum a list of things to do to your phone, and I did all of it, including restoring it. It still says "searching", please help!!
Hello mbrose,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning cellular network issues:
iPhone: Troubleshooting No Service
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4429
Your iPhone might have one of these symptoms:
iPhone displays "No Service" in an area of good coverage
iPhone doesn't regain service when returning to an area of coverage
iPhone displays "Searching" in the status bar, and when you go to Settings > General > About, Modem Firmware is blank

Iphone keeps saying searching nothing fix it
i have a iphone and its on 3.1.2 and i have restored it and factory restored it to help the problem is when ever i put in my sim card the phone shows the bars for like 3 seconds then goes way ad stays on searching or on no service i live in a area with 4 bars so its not the signal.. i need help plz cuz i stuck using my old phone
im on 3.1.3 after resetting to factory settings and it is doing the EXACT same thing. It must be some kind of software glitch. Let me know if you find any answers to this issue. I am afraid it has something to do with the phase-out of iphone OG. It gets full bars, then vanishes. My wife has a 3GS and she has full bars. Weird. If I find anyhing, I will let you know!

Why does my phone all of the sudden keep saying "searching"?
I have a new 4s. Got it on Oct 14th and have had zero problems. Well all of the sudden it constantly says "searching" and will then say AT&T then freeze for a second then go back to "searching." I have an AT&T MicroCell which has given me no problems. I disconnected that and the same thing happens, so I know its no my MicroCell. I reset the network settings to no avail. I'm gonna see if this goes away by tomorrow morning, if not then I'm gonna restore the phone via iTunes. Anyone experience this? I doubt my phone is defective. Could this be an iOS 5 bug?

Turning your Sim Pin off may help, although this step + a Back Up/Restore may be required. -
I havent had service for a week now. It comes and goes and just keeps saying searching. The AT&T rep said to back up on computer and then do a restore of the iphone. When I go to restore it wants me to turn off the find my phone in icloud. I go to do that and it says it cant deregister the device??
Hello Becklee21,
It sounds like you are trying to restore your phone but are unable to turn off Find my iPhone to do so. If you have already backed up your phone to iTunes on your computer with the info from the article named:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
I would try deleting the iCloud account from the phone altogether, then restoring the phone again.
On your iOS device’s Home screen, go to Settings > iCloud, then at the bottom of the screen, tap Delete Account.
iCloud: Change iCloud feature settings

IPhone says searching for service after ios 7.1.1 update! HELP!
I updated my iPhone 5c to the iOS 7.1.1 last night and didn't think I would have any problems. I went to bed and woke up this morning with my phone in the top left corner saying "Searching..." and the the wifi symbol.
I went to check my setting to see if my data was off, but when I went into the settings app and clicked the tab labed "Celluar" the app crashed and took me back to the home screen. It does this everytime I try and go into that tab! So, I have no idea what it going on with my phone! I can't make calls, send texts through my phone number (I can still send iMessages when connected to wifi), the screen glitches and moves when I go into apps, the battery life is now terrible and drains really fast. Everything about my phone was perfectly fine until I updated it to the iOS 7.1.1, so I believe something must have went wrong when it was updating.
Overall these are my main problems:
-iPhone is "Searching" for phone service (which means I have no service so no calls or texts can be sent or recieved)
-Cellular tab in settings crashes
-Battery drains over 2x faster than normal
-Screen seems to glitch or move when I open appsHi SamSam1103,
If you are having multiple issues with your iPhone after a recent update, your best course of action may be to back up your content to iTunes, restore the phone to factory settings, then test to see if the issues persist in its default config before bringing back your content from the backup. You may find the following articles helpful:

Yesterday morning, my phone decided to kick me of my network and not let me back in. In the top left corner, it just says 'Searching...'. I have tried restarting my phone, resetting all settings and resetting network settings and nothing has decided to work for me. I then went to reset my phone but it will not let me log out of 'Find my Phone'. Therefore it did not allow me to reset my phone.
Please can somebody help.
Thanks. You'll have to unlock the phone in icloud.com/find to be able to get pass the activation lock.

my iphone 4 only turns on when its plugged into a wall and when it finally turns on it lasts for about a minute then it turns off and while its on the signal says searching, what should i do?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. You likely have a bad battery.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one with a new battery for $79. They do not fix yours.

So I purchased an iPhone 4 and activated it with my number. Verizon account says phone is activated with my number, and I set it up with iTunes and all that good stuff. However, I can't get any service at all. The rest of my family all has iPhone 4 and they get 3G coverage in our house no problem, but I can't seem to get service anywhere. I have tried everything in the book; reset network settings, reset all settings on phone, soft reset, updated to newest IOS, dialed *228 and pressed 2 to get new PRL, turned it on and off multiple times, etc . Still can't seem to get service, just keeps saying "Searching.." where the bars should be. Just wondering if there are any other steps I need to take. Appreciate any and all feedback.

IPhone 5 keeps saying searching
My iPhone 5 has just got back working from water damage and everything's working sound touchscreen etc apart from when I restored my phone it just says searching in top left, any ideas?
Hello ML1996
Check out the troubleshooting that I have outlined below to resolve issues with your iPhone showing Searching in the top left corner.
iPhone: Troubleshooting No Service
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4429
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
Turn your iPhone off, then on again.
Remove the SIM card and verify that it's a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it isn't damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
Check for a carrier-settings update. Connect to a Wi-Fi network. Then tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, iOS will ask you if you want to install it. If Wi-Fi isn't available, connect your device to iTunes.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Restore the iPhone.
If you're outside the United States, please also follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Carrier > Automatic. If the phone registers any carrier network, Settings > Carrier will be present.
If the Carrier option is missing in Settings and you're outside of the Unites States, please contact Apple for support and service options.
Set the option for Automatic to off. A list of potentially available carriers appears after about two minutes. If the device is locked to a carrier, it may connect only to the carrier network to which it is locked. If the device displays carrier networks, then the device is working as expected.
Set Settings > Carrier > Automatic back to on.
If you're still experiencing No Service issues, contact your carrier to check for any network or account issues that could cause these symptoms.

About a Month ago I dropped we went swimming and I dropped my iPhone in water and it works fine except at the top for the signal it says searching. Can you please help me with this problem?
It's very likely that the phone is permanently damaged - water corrodes the very fine copper strips which form the circuitry very quickly - but only a service engineer can tell you what its condition is and whether it can be restored to health. If possible take it to an Apple Store (make an appointment) for a free assessment. Don't be surprised if you are told you will have to replace it.
