HT1800 why does macbook pro cannot add lexmark x4875 printer?

Hello! I have been having problems trying to connect my Lexmark x4875 to my macbook pro. Everytime I tried to add the printer, it kept giving me a message saying that it cannot find the software, so I went to the lexmark website and download the driver. Am I supposed to download something else aside from the printer driver? I'll appreciate any help.

Try to download the Lexmark driver update v2.9 from Apple: http://bit.ly/NBHon4
If it doesn't work, reset the printing system: http://bit.ly/TeaJzV
Then manually add a print queue: http://bit.ly/U9QKrA

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
In the Console window, look under the heading DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION on the left for crash or panic reports. If you don't see that heading, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". It may be under either of the two subcategories, "System" and "User." A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic".
Select the most recent of each and post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang log — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Why does macbook pro retina display shows 512 mb?

i have bought a macbook pro retina and ofcourse its 1gb display card but when i check about info ( about this mac ) it shows 512 mb instead 1 gb. why?

There are two GPUs in the retina MacBook Pro.  One is the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and  the other is the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M.  The Intel GPU has 512Mb and the NVIDIA GPU has 1GB.  The Intel GPU does not use a lot of power but is not as powerful as the NVIDIA one.  The OS automatically switches between the two depending on what you are doing on the machine unless you disable the auto-switching.
You can get much more detailed report about your system including the graphics hardware by selecting "About This Mac" under the Apple menu then clicking on the "More Info..." button then the "System Report" button.  The Graphics/Displays section under hardware in the window will show you both GPUs.

  • Why does Macbook Pro rename my Time Machine and other external hard drives?

Why does my Macbook Pro rename my Time Machine to "Time Machine I" and then back again periodically.  Last night it was one name, this morning it is another. It also does it on other external hard drives - usually by adding a I after the name. It is frustrating for me because I store a large runtime folder on an external hard drive and end up losing a lot of time with my computer not being able to find files because of the renaming.
And even though it still looks like Time Machine under "Get info: - when I open a folder window or Disk Utility it has a new name, and there is no way to change it.  I've seen other questions that mention Macs renaming themselves, so it seems like a similar issue. I did try deleting the preferences plist file, but that did not work.
Is this a glitch with this particular model or operating system?
    Specs: Macbook Pro A1297 - 2009 model.
    Snow Leopard 10.6.8
    2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB ram
    Many thanks for any advice.

strange, my external HDs were added to the exception list automatically. maybe because they wouldn't fit on the time machine volume.
It seems to depend on when the drives were connected. When you first turn Time Machine on, it only excludes the TM drive itself, and any drives not formatted HFS+.
If you connect a drive later on, that drive will be excluded automatically.

  • Why does Macbook Pro have gray "curtain"and msg to shut down when playing video online?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard v 10.6.8 and have put on all the security updates.
I bought this machine just days after the newest MBP's were released with Lion because I wanted to stay with Snow Leopard
From the very beginning I would have occasional "gray screens" with a message that I'd encounterd a problem and needed to shut down.  It always occured while I was watching a streaming video online (Flash?) but it didn't always happen.  I updated my Flash plugin and that seemed to help.  I use both Safari and FireFox and both are now updated to the latest versions.
I had also noticed via iCleanMemory that my memory availability was very low .....I always have many tabs open in my browsers and have backup software that backs up to online storage running and when I watched a video, it dropped to almost 0 and everything ran slow.  I had 4 GB Ram.
So, I ordered new ram and put that in and now have 8 GB.  Machine runs fast. Love it....except it keeps giving me that veil of gray and the message to shut down.  It happens several times a day now and while usually in conjunction with watching a video clip, it's not always the case.  But I have lots of available memory.  That wasn't the issue.
I found an Apple Support paper relative to needing a video update on some mid 2010 MBP's and downloaded it.  It won't install and says it won't run on my system so that didn't help.
I'm at my wits' end trying to keep this thing running.  Everytime I have to shut it down it means a minimum of 8 min...sometimes more.....before it will restart.  If I try to restart sooner than that, it begins to boot and then just has lines and lines of numbers and code running across it....and often continuous beeping sounds and I have to hold the button down to shut it off again.  If I wait long enough, it does boot back up and sometimes runs fine as long as I'm not watching video clips, a streaming tv show or clicking on a lot of links in web pages.
I don't believe it has shut down when I was doing anything that wasn't web related....i.e. on a browser. And, when I was running with only 4 gb ram, it rarely shut down, just ran very, very slowly.  Now with 8 gb ram it is speedy but doesn't seem to want to keep working!
Anyone have any ideas what I should try next?
    Thanks
    Paula

    Hi Allan,
    Thanks for your reply.
I have been closing iCleanMemory but the shut down (kernel panic) was still happening.  Not sure how to go about uninstalling it as it's one that runs at start-up and dragging it to the trash might not get rid of it completely.  I"ll find it's web site and see if they have any info.
Haven't checked your web link yet (it's late and gotta get to bed) but will do so tomorrow.
I also run Backblaze and DropBox that begin at startup and are constantly updating in the background, iStatMenus and Sharpshooter.
The kernel panics were happening....tho much less frequently.....before i put iClean Memory on.  If I remember right, I installed it just because I had those periodic shut downs and wondered if it was a lack of memory.  Because I then saw that memory was very low all the time, I decided I must need to put more memory in.  And that seems to have made the issue worse while also making the machine work faster for the time it is running.
Now, I've been working on here for a couple of hours and had no problem at all......but I haven't asked it to play any kind of video.  Before I quit for the night, I'll try to watch the last one I tried that caused it to shut down and see if it does it again.
I do appreciate your help as I have just enough knowledge about these things to be dangerous.

  • Why does macbook pro heats up around the left side and CD spines wildly?

I am experience heat from under the body of the computer on the left side. And also when the CD is in the drive, it runs really fast and loud. Does anyone have any reasoning for these concerns of mine? Mainly I am concerned about the over heating of the computer near the left side.

    Hi,
I set my MBP up by transferring everything from my iMac (also an Intel Core Duo model). One piece of shareware, Net Monitor, didn't like something (partly, perhaps, the fact that it detected a single license key shared by two computers on the same network) and though it told me about this (duplicate license key) and allowed me to go on using it in demo mode, it ended up soaking up CPU. I didn't notice this right away, but I had the MacBook on my lap (and was wearing shorts) and after a while, the bottom got very hot. Then I noticed the CPU was pegged. Using the Apple "Activity Monitor" I was able to see which process was the culprit and kill it.
Anyway, a single run-away process like this can use up a lot of CPU and hence a lot of battery power. Use the Activity Monitor to check for such a process. There's a nice feature in Activity monitor, a floating CPU utilization bar. I keep it showing down in the lower right corner so I can notice if something like this happens again.

  • Why does macbook pro keep disconnecting from wifi every 10-20 minutes?

It keeps disconnecting and I have to restart macbook pro so it works again.

It keeps disconnecting and I have to restart macbook pro so it works again.

  • Why does macbook pro not come back after closing shortly

This has become really annoying. If I close my macbook pro (13 inch from this year...but not the retina) and then decide to open it back up without waiting long enough (maybe just setting it down and then picking it back up and opening it), it becomes a brick until I do a hard reset. Sometimes, if I open and close it over and over again, sometimes it will come back. My 2006ish mbpro never did that, so this is a big step back in my opinion, though, I don't know if it is OS or hardware.
Anyone figure out a way to keep this from happening?

Your MBP should, as I'm sure you know, just go to sleep when the top is closed and reawaken immediately when you open the top. This is obviously not happening.
Which version of OS X are you running on your 2012 13" MBP? I would make sure that you've updated the system with the latest upgrades and, perhaps, run the Apple Hardware Test to make certain that it's not a hardware problem.
    Good luck,

  • Why does MacBook Pro restart at night?

I leave my MacBook Pro connected to poser supply and let it go to sleep under power management. Many nights it will restart. (At least that is what seems to happen. When I wake it up in the morning I am presented with the login choice screen (my user vs guest) and when I select my account and log in the formerly runniing apps are no longer running.
While it isn't causing major problems it mystifies me. Other macs I have owned, including a Mac Air can go days or even weeks without needing a reboot. None seem to spontaneously restart.

I see.  It is possible for a process to crash and cause a logout.  But from your description some process is simply asking the system to logout in the usual way.  Weird.  Is it possible that in System Preferences, Energy Saver, Schedule (the button down in the lower right corner) has been inadvertenly set to shutdown/restart at some time?
As for the log, I don't know about using the Terminal application, but the application Console (in the Utilities folder) is designed to let you peruse the myriad of logs kept by the system.

  • Why does MacBook Pro quit open applications, rather than sleep with Cinema Screen connected?

With my  Apple Cinema Screen connected, my MacBook Pro has recently started getting into a muddle with the sleep command.
The problem is apparent when awaking from sleep mode.  Sometimes, only some of the open apps have been quit (Safari, Calendar, Word etc). At other times, all the open apps and the whole user account has been closed. On those occasions, re-opening the user account becomes a lengthy process, often requiring the user's name and password to be entered twice, (with two different non standrad wallpaper backgrounds)  before restoring everything to the condition prevailing before sleep was invoked.
Interestingly, the MacBook Pro works perfectly if used without the Cinema Screen attached. It fires up and sleeps and reawakes with everything in tact, as it should.
Disconnecting the cinema screenwhile the MacBook Pro is asleep creates the above scenario upon awakening.
Similarly, if the MacBook Pro has been used without the cinema screen, is put to sleep and while asleep, the cinema screen connected, the above symptoms plaque the re-awakening process as described above.
I think but am not 100% sure, that these probelms after the recent Mountian Lion update was applied (OS X 10.8.3).
Genius Bar folk (Harlequin Centre - Watford) have not heard of the issue.
    Can anyone help please?
Thank you in anticipation of a solution from a bright spark somewhere!

The next time you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

  • Why does Logic Pro 9 add 0.3s silence at start of all my tracks when I "export all tracks as audio files"?

OK - when I "export all tracks as audio files" it works fine - I get a load of exported tracks (annoyingly with the stupid "_bip" prefix at the end).
But I find that they all have about 0.3s silence inserted at the start. WHY??!!!
I checked, and on the timeline all the tracks start with their first note at the beginning of the track so there is no silence in the arrangement. But still this silence on export.
This Logic feature is so badly designed - why can't it do the simplest things as expected.

Thank you I will look into plug-in latency compensation. However, there is no latency or need for latency compensation when outputting offline files in this way. Latency compensation is for live playback where real-time processing matters. So this is flawed software design, hence my comments about it being illogical.
"there is no latency or need for latency compensation when outputting offline files.....etc"
You don't fully understand how Logic's audio engine and buffering scheme works... not that anyone fully does except the programmers. Basically your above statement is incorrect, as some plugins have built-in-latency and others don't, but that's not the complete picture. The problem is a combination of a plugin's built-in-latency and how Logic buffers data. Logic deactivates the audio engine when stopped, all plugins and software instruments become deactivated including the ability to load or purge data buffers with the exception of a software instrument or audio track that is selected for "live" input.
(Look up Plug-in-Latency Compensation in the manual for a full explation of the choices available)
I won't disagree with you about the software design, however, rather than flawed I tend to think of it as antiquated. The positive side of this is extremely low processor use and the ability to design templates with all plugins and software instruments loaded and ready to start a new project. The downside most Logic users are familiar with...  unexpected overloads in the middle of a project when a approaching a region that makes use of processor intensive plugins, Loops that don't match up perfectly when starting a project from bar 1 and/or missing notes at the beginning of MIDI loop if starting at bar 1.... plus a half dozen other anomalies related to Logic's "efficient" audio engine. The efficiency concept made sense back when computers didn't have enough power to handle active or semi-active plugins, seems it causes more problems than not these days.
