HT1807 Unlocking iphone in another country - legally

if i have moved to Australia and cancelled my account with AT&T how do i then legally get my phone unlocked?
i own the phone

you need to call AT&T and see if you qualify for unlocking.  Carriers lock phones.  Only carriers can unlock them.  This has nothing to do with Apple.

  • Lost my iPhone in another country. Is it still possible for whoever found it (if found) to still have access to my AppleID although that phone has already been disabled?

Lost my phone in another country. No passcode lock. Access to pretty much everything. Can someone still be using my AppleID and be seeing my recent updates through my messages, social media, or email although that phone has been disabled but I continue to use the same AppleID? Find my iPhone was also not enabled.

Okay, that makes sense. While it may not work on your particular provider, the phone will work with another SIM. You will not incur charges with that, but as I indicated earlier, all of your content is available on the device for the thief to view. Unless there is anything they can use, they will more than likely wipe the device clean and just use it themselves.

  • Purchasing iphone from another country

Hi Guys, is it possible to buy any of apple products from apple website of another country ?! Thanks.

You either need to purchase from a certain country's iTMS:
#1: A CC with a billing address in that certain country
    or
#2: A Prepaid card/gift voucher issued in that certain country + an address there
If you don't meet of of this conditions there is "no go" - that's no decision made by Apple but by the big record companies.

  • Moving PrePay iPhone to another country.

    Hey,
I'm in NZ just now but I'll be moving back to the UK in a few months and I was wondering if I bought a pay as you go iPhone out here from Vodafone NZ would I be able to stick an O2 sim in it when I get home?

This support page says a New Zealand iPhone is unlocked. This Vodafone NZ iPhone page says you can get an iPhone outright for NZ$979 (8GB) or NZ$1129 (16GB). There is no mention of a lock.
Of course there is a problem if an iPhone is purchased in one country but used in another. If there is a problem with it then it needs to be resolved in the country of purchase.

  • Using iphone in another country

It is posible to buy the iphone 5s unlocked in the UK and being able to use it in Spain?

According to the UK Online store. Yes, the iPhone 5S is unlocked.
    http://store.apple.com/uk/buy-iphone/iphone5s
Whether it will work on Spanish carriers depends on their bands.
Talk to your Mobile carrier for specifics.
Technically it should work on any GSM carrier, Though LTE may not be available in all areas.

  • IPhone in another country?

Does anyone know if I can use my iPhone with the prepaid microsim card if I bought the phone in Canada?

if you bought it from Apple Store then its unlocked but if you bought it from Rogers, Bell, Telus or some other provider then its locked... you wont be able to use it anywhere else without unlocking it first..
and in Canada, they dont provide unlocking services (which ***** big time)...

  • Using Sim in unlocked iphone5 from another country

We have an unlocked iPhone5 purchased in Canada. Currently we have sim from Bell Mobility. We are now in Florida and would like Sim from carrier here. Who can provide prepaid SIM card? AT&T advises it won't work. Confused!

I had a buddy working for Rogers, not sure how correct that info is, but I was told that all phones sold in Canada are unlocked, but then locked to first carrier. Forgive me if I am wrong, with that second hand info, but if he was correct your phone is locked to bell Canada.
Your buddy was simply wrong.  All iPhones purchased directly from the Apple store in Canada are unlocked, permanently.
Where does op say - she/he purchased it from apple store?

  • Buy an iphone from another country

Can I usa an Iphone here in Colombia if I buy it from this page? Additionally, can I purchase it without any service provided by an USA mobile company? thanks...

If you buy a US iPhone from the website you will have to enter into a 2 year contract with AT&T, your phone will be carrier locked to AT&T so you will want to set up an international plan with them. Will be a really expensive telephone bill. Also, for warranty service you will need to bring it in person to the US.

  • HT5012 Why can't I use my iPhone in another country

I bought my iphone5s in UK with a T-mobile sim in it and came back to Nigeria my home town. To use the iPhone 5s in Nigeria, using a Nigerian SIM card (MTN), it then refuse to activate the phone. It sent a message saying carrier server not supported...

Usually this is done with a phone call. It will be up to you to learn how to call the UK from Nigeria.
Start from this website, then follow their instructions.

  • Where do unlocked iphones come from?

Hi, I saw in the classifieds a guy selling unlocked iphones, he says that the iphone will lock to the company of the first sim card that is inserted. How can that be and where can they get those iphones from? thanks!

I'd be very wary about this. One of two things is going on here:
    1) This gentleman is selling unofficially unlocked iPhones. As these phones carry no warranty with Apple, you will not get any support from them should your phone have any issues in the future. In addition, you will be unable to upgrade the firmware direct from Apple as doing so will relock the phone.
    2) This gentleman is selling officially unlocked iPhones from another country. While these will not have the upgrade restrictions I mentioned before, should your iPhone require any warranty support, it will have to be returned to the country in which it was first sold - ie if this is an Australian unlocked iPhone it will have to be taken to an Apple store in Australia for service.
As always, if it seems to good to be true it probably is. Caveat Emptor.

  • I got an iphone from an apple store. does it mean that I can use it in another country (since it must be unlocked)?

Can I use it in another country?
Not sure what factory unlocked really implies..

With restriction and proper procedure, you can probably use the iPhone in another country.  As KiltedTim mentioned, you've failed to provide us with sufficient information.  Since you bought the iPhone form an Apple store, why didn't you speak with someone at the store?

  • If I buy an iphone from an applestore in another country, can i use the warrancy here in my own country?

Is there a way to use the warrancy in my country if I buy the iphone from another country from an applestore?

If both places are in EU countries there is no issue. If not you will have to return to the country where you purchased it for warranty service.

  • Official Unlocked iPhones - Not Cracked

I believe apple is selling official unlocked iPhones in France. Will this unlocked iphone work in other countries? For example if I purchase unlocked iPhone in France, will it work in Australia?

There is another post on here from a person who lives in Belgium and works 10 miles away in France. The iPhone works fine with the French Network SIM card installed, but not when they change the SIM to a Belgian network SIM.
There is another post from a person who purchased the officially unlocked iPhone in Germany to use in Holland (Netherlands). They are experiencing exactly the same problem. With a country specific SIM installed in Germany, their iPhone works flawlessly, yet when the Dutch network SIM is installed, iPhone does not function correctly.
Ergo, my guess is the official unlocked iPhone requires a country specific network SIM for activation and use.
This situation is no different to any other mobile phone SIM. I can't take my O2 or 3 SIM card out of my phone and install it into a phone I bought in South Africa and expect it to log into the O2 or 3 network in the U.K. The IMEI of the phone in use would have to be registered to the SIM you are proposing to use on the O2 or 3 network in the U.K. For use abroad, International Roaming would have to be activated on your account in the country of the network providing the SIM card.
You would therefor have to contact the network in the country the SIM was issued on, register your IMEI of the new handset and activate International Roaming on your account. You would then be able to use the new mobile overseas, piggybacking onto whichever network provides International Roaming support for your originating network, whilst incurring international call rates.
If I didn't want to incur international call rates, I would have to buy a SIM card from a network in the country I was in and use it in either the new handset or my existing SIM FREE handset.
Buying an unlocked (are unlocked and SIM FREE the same thing? This could be argued.) handset does not guarantee use anywhere in the world. Whilst most SIM FREE mobile phones can be used with any SIM, it could be argued that releasing an official unlocked phone in one particular country, based on the laws of that specific country, is intended for use exclusively in the country whose laws stipulate unlocking of mobile phones.
Could I get full functionality and support on say a Treo 750 on a network which doesn't support that particular device? I would say not, hence Network operators/providers run tests on any mobile device they plan to launch to check functionality. Any upgrades to their system are carried out prior to launch of that particular model, to ensure full functionality of the device. Thus some networks offer certain mobile phones, whilst other networks don't.
This is my understanding of the situation:
The SIM card, read the small print, is the property of the providing network. If the network you plan to use iPhone on offers iPhone or an iPhone SIM, then it will work.
iPhone will work properly in a country it has officially been launched in with either, in the case of the locked iPhone, a dedicated network SIM pre-installed and activated with a price plan or in the case of the officially unlocked iPhone, a SIM from a network within the country the unlocked iPhone was sold in.
In theory, I could go and buy an unlocked iPhone in France. I could use that iPhone in the U.K, however, only on O2 with a price plan (after obtaining an O2 iPhone SIM card) or I could use the iPhone with International Roaming active with any network SIM from a Mobile provider in France, but I would incur International Call Rates.
What you are trying to do is to get round being charged International Roaming Call Rates. This is only possible if iPhone is used with a SIM card from a mobile operator in a country iPhone has been officially released in.

  • When will apple start selling unlocked iPhone 6 in the U.s

    hello
i searched in the UK store and the Australian store and the option for the unlocked iPhone 6 is available but the devices itself is not yet but the taxes are much higher and the phone is much more expensive from the U.S store
when will apple start selling unlocked phones in the u.s ?
    thanks

No one knows that at this point.  In the recent past, the unlocked iPhones started out as only available in the retail Apple stores and not by on-line order.  When they will be available or how has not been announced so far.
Keep in mind that purchasing an iPhone in another country is not a great idea since the warranty is only valid in the country of sale so if anything would go wrong there would be no service or support in another country.
