HT1807 Using cellular networks iPad Mini abroad

Hello everyone,
for working reasons I am going to live to Spain and I would like to know if I am going to be able to use my Ipad Mini with the celullar companies over there. Is there any reason my iPad would not work over there? My carrier here at the states is AT&T.
Thanx!
Peter

That's not what I said, WJ. If you'll re-read my post, you'll see that I said that if you want to use an iPad with either Verizon or Sprint, you must buy the model for that carrier. I said nothing about using a Verizon/Sprint iPad with AT&T or any other carrier.
So your post was missing information that may be important to other readers and could be misleading by stating that LTE support is the only difference between the three US models, something which is not the case.

  • How am i supposed to use cellular network in ipad mini internationally??

i am planning in buying an ipad mini with retina display with wifi and cellular function. however i am concerned with its use in Nepal. Is there any method with which i can be able to use a 3G sim card for cellular purpose??

    Hi, nitinfromnpl.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
As long as you purchase the GSM model and acquire a Nano-SIM card, you should be able to use your iPad abroad.  Here is some information about this process that you may find helpful.

  • I use iPad 3 suddenly phone icon is missing.  I could browse using 3G network but could not make or receive any calls using cellular network.

I could not make or receive any calls using cellular network.  But I could browse using 3G network.  Same sim works fine in iPhone

The iPad has no phone Icon, nor phone capabilities.

  • I have just purchased a lightning to 30 pin adaptor to use on an iPad mini and a gen5 iPod touch both devices are running iOS 8.1.3 and come up with The error message "this accessory is not supported by this device "

I have just purchased a lightning to 30 pin adaptor to use on an iPad mini and a gen5 iPod touch both devices are running iOS 8.1.3 and come up with The error message "this accessory is not supported by this device "
THis is means they are not charging on a 30 pin cable and the touch won't work in my Apple iPod dock - no audio out or charge. Have re powered both devices to no avail am wondering if the iOS version is the problem
    Help!

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

  • My new IPad Air is hot after only 10 minutes browsing using cellular network and also wifi.

I just bought IPad Air few days ago, and start from day one very time I use the IPad for browsing internet, it turns quite hot and it is very uncomfortable. Please give me solution for this.  Do I need to bring the IPad to Apple service or I can do something in the device to fix this problem. Because the device really hot after 10 minutes. I used to have IPad 2 and still have it actually and never experienced the same thing, it works very good until now. Thank you.

The iPad Air battery is bigger, it has a more powerful CPU and GPU and a brighter, higher-resolution screen than an iPad 2. Warmer is normal. Too hot to touch is not.

  • I have a IPad and I tried to send a message to a friends IPad mini and it didn't go through.  She has a different carrier than I do.  Can't all Apple products work together no matter the carrier?  I used her apple IPad mini designated phone number.

How can I message a friend on her IPad mini from my IPad?

If both have Apple devices AND both have data plans, why don't you message each other using iMessages instead of regular SMS?
iMessages get sent thru the TCP/IP Internet rather than the cellular network so they are essentially free (other than any data cap you may have, irrellevant if the iGadget is connecting via Wi-Fi).

  • Using a US iPad Mini in Sweden

I live in Sweden and am going to the US soon. While there I was hoping to buy and ipad mini. My question is if I buy one with cellular serivce can I use any swedish sim card I want with it? Also does it make a difference which US carrier I choose and do I have to pay for any US data plan to get started?

The iPads are not locked to the carriers. You should be able to get a local SIM card for using in just about any country. The iPad takes a microSIM, but it is the same card just cut to a smaller size. If a carrier you wish to use does not have microSIMs, then you can get their regular SIM and cut it to size yourself.
    http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/05/sim-trim-cutting-card-down-to-microsim-si ze/
The iPad's cable has the iPad's 30 pin connector on one end and a USB connector on the other end, so it can be attached to almost any USB power source for charging. The iPad's AC charger is universal, it can be used world wide with the correct prong adapter. In fact, the one for the US is identical to the ones for other countries, there is just a tiny part with the prongs that Apple switches out. Perhaps a UK Apple Store can get you this tiny piece to convert your charger from US to UK style prongs.
The iPhones and the iPods have 5 watt chargers. The iPad has a 10 watt charger. But they are interchangeable. The iPad's charger is self-limiting, so you can plug an iPhone or iPad into it without fear. The iPad will charge with 5 watts, it just takes longer.

  • What's the point with cellular on iPad mini if you can't make calls?

Most people today have smartphones and all smartphones have built in portable routers that can be connected to any Wi-Fi device, like an iPad. So when I saw that the iPad Mini had both just Wi-Fi or both Wi-Fi and cellular I bought the one with cellular because naturally I thought you'd be able to use it as a cell phone as well. So since the SIM card is just used for data connection, then it's a wast of money to have the iPad with cellular. The Wi-Fi is enough if you have a smartphone because then you can just use it as a portable wireless router. That's what I was doing before I was dumb enough to upgrade my Wi-Fi iPad to the one with cellular as well. Should have asked about that before I upgraded since making regular phone calls and having SMS capabilities were the main reason I got the one with cellular so I didn't have to have both my phone and iPad with me. How can you have cellular features and not be able to call?

That is speculation on your part.  Many people do not have smartphones - according to news groups like Gartner, only about 40% of global mobile phone sales are smart phones, so the majority of people do not, in fact, have smartphones.
Second, many of us with smartphones, do not have tethering plans, and do not want tethering plans.  Many people only use or need the cellular connectivity of their iPad or tablet occasionally, so why pay a much more expensive monthly fee for a tethering plan when you can just enable the cellular data on the iPad when needed, and only for as long as needed?  Adding a tethering enabled data plan on your smart phone can be awefully expensive if you only occasionaly actually use tethering - why pay for something you are not using?
Its true that most iPads sold are in fact wifi-only, and even of the 3G and LTE units sold, many never activate service.  So it would appear that few actually use cellular data.  However, I am sure there are people who do - and having to tether all the time to another device every time you need cellular data would likely be a real annoyance for some true road warriors who are often in places without free wifi.
And you can make calls on your iPad - you just need to use a VOIP service and client.

  • Why can't I use FaceTime on my ipad2 using cellular network

I can not successfully use FaceTime over my cellular network as advertised by the ios 6 upgrade.  I even got I message stating I had to use FaceTime over a Wi Fi network.  What's going on?

FaceTime over 3G/4G is only on the iPad 3, not the iPad 2 - from the bottom of http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/
    3. FaceTime video calling requires a FaceTime-enabled device for the caller and recipient and a Wi-Fi connection. FaceTime over a cellular network requires iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or iPad (3rd generation) with cellular data capability

  • How do I airplay to apple TV when using Cellular network?

I want to be able to send my netflix video to my apple tv when im using the cellular network. Can this be done? I have an out of town property that I stay at sometimes and I do not have internet access there except on my iphone. So if I bring my apple tv with me I want to be able to stream movies to it using the 4g cellular network.

Unfortunately, you must be on the same wifi network to use airplay. This setup will not work.

  • TS1398 I cannot start to use my new ipad mini as it is stuck at the very first step after restoring my old backup. It says to choose a wifi, I do and then it says 'Unable to connect' There is no options for a password and I cannot access any other screen!

I have tried going past the first set up stage, still with no wifi. I have then tried restoring the ipad mini, still no wifi available. Both my ipone and Apple Mac have wifi full bars. Please help. I only picked up my new ipad today. I am thinking it may be faulty.
    Lele

It may be faulty but you should try to activate it first in order to be sure.
Why don't you activate it using iTunes on the Mac and then troubleshoot the WiFi connection. Connect the Mini to the Mac with the cable and iTunes should startup and take you through activation. If you do not autosync and iTunes des not start up on it's own, then launch it yourself.

  • My iPhone 5 battery drain with in 3 hours when I use cellular network on and stand by time is only 2 and half day

I Bought iphone 5 from USA  when I came to India I started it then I noticed the battery stand by time is only 3 days. And when I use cellular data then it is live only for 2 and half hour. I bought this phone in January till now I am having the same problem. I have done all the thing whatever the support center told me about restore and all stuff. After that they told me to visit any apple store but there are no store in India and I'm helpless. For my iPhone only I can't go abroad to that country where stores are. Before I used to believe that apple products are the best but this iPhone has just disappointed me. You know my friend making fun of my mobile because they are using samsung product.
Pleade do some thing for me I have left only 2 month of warranty. other wise I will have to through this on dustbin because everywhere it is insulting me.

Sorry, but the warranty for the iPhone is only valid in the country where you bought the device.
In most of the cases 3rd party apps or settings caused the battery to drain faster than before the new software has been set up. Sometimes the mail app tried to connect to the mail server over and over again, deleting and setting up the mail account can solve this problem.
In other cases social media apps did similar things to the phone.
Here are some suggestions for getting back the normal battery life, maybe they are helpful for your problem with your iPhone 5 as well.
