HT1822 [Add Certificate...] hangs in Profile Manager 2 (Mountain Lion)
I just installed Mac OS X Server on Mountain Lion for the sole purpose of configuring a new network profile for my workplace. After configuring my system to enable Profile Manager, I launched the Profile Manager web interface, logged in, went to Device Groups, and created a new profile.
Settings are to include:
General (required): includes general info about the profile itself
Network: configure profile for both wired and wireless 802.1x authentication
Certificates: include two certificates to trust for authentication to the network.
I was able to easily configure General and Network. However, whenever/however I attempt to upload the required certificates, the browser window displays "Uploading <name of certificate file.cer>...", with the spinning indicator and does nothing else, regardless of how long I leave it alone.
Thoughts appreciated. Considered firewall, DNS, etc issues but haven't found anything that may be getting in the way.
Thanks.
I'm having this same issue.
I can install the Trust Profile
but when I go to Enroll Device, I get:
profile installation failed
could not download the identity profile from the encrypted profile service. The credentials within the device enrollment profile may have expired.
what I've done:
backed up my Device Manager database
wiped the database
re-setup Device Manager
replaced the database
tried to Enroll Device and failed (same error)
wiped the database
re-setup the Device Manager
tried to Enroll Device and failed (same error)
I've tried recreating my ssl certs
Ive tried running it without code signing certs
I refuse to wipe my entire Open Directory
is there any to get this working or am I going to need to go third party to manage my Mac-only shop?

"no users found" Profile Manager Mountain Lion
Hello to all.

When we browsing the Profile's manager WEB interface we are able to see all Library components and their CONTENTS (px users etc)

So far So Good ...
Now ... when we type anything in the search bar ... from a unique letter or a full name ... the message we taking is "NO USERS FOUND".
Any ideas?
Can anyone Help on this?
it's really critical.
Thank you all in advanced.Unfortunately not yet.
If you find anything please let me know.
It's really critical for us.

Code Signing Certificate Renewal for Profile Manager
Currently we have around 800 ipods/iphones around the globe that were all enrolled into our Profile Manager in the past year. In one month our Code Signing Certificate will expire on ALL of those devices. I have updated the certificate on our Profile Manager server and installed that into the Profile Manager.
How do I update all of the devices in the field with the new certificate? It is not possible for every one of those devices to be re-enrolled. These are systems that we give to our customers to use for a specific purpose and they have no clue how to do anything with the MDM or the profile manager. Apple - this wasn't well thought out...After loading the new certificates into the OS X Server box, the client devices will have to use the Profile Manager User Portal to load the updates.
Here is the Apple documentation on updating the Profile Manager certificate (HT5358), though you may well have found that document already.
Unfortunately, the users have to navigate to the portal for that, or you'll have to manage a short-notice device swap. (If it were even possible here, I'm not sure I'd want folks loading new certs via email, either...)
If the existing Profile Manager solution doesn't meet your particular needs, then there are alternative MDM solutions around from other vendors, and that are also compatible with the OS X Server and iOS provisioning mechanisms.
{FWIW, this is a user forum and the folks from Apple may or may not see your report. If you have acccess to it, the Apple bugreport tool is a common way to log an enhancement request that the folks from Apple will see.} -
How can users add their devices to Profile Manager without a user account?
We would like to allow company devices to be tracked, inventoried and managed in Profile Manager without creating a user account for each person so they can log into /MyDevices to download the mobile profiles. We aren't staffed to have someone manage user accounts as quickly as iPads are being purchased.
If we can't do some kind of guest access, can one user, maybe called Enroll, have literally one thousand devices attached to them?
The other alternative is to have the profiles on a small webpage with a password to download.the easiest way is to use apple configurator
using apple configurator
enable enrollment in PM
un tick restrict to users in device library
apple configurator should pick up your server certs
and the PM auto enrollment profile
setup a enrolment wifi lan
configure your IOS devices with apple configurator adding the
server cert and your enrolment wifi lan
you'll still have to handle each device tapping yes to install each profile
but you should end up with the ipads in PM with no users
from there you can set which wifi you wish them to connect to
eg staff wifi, email setings, VPN etc.
open the correct ports on firewalls to allow PM to work internaly and externaily
and pr any port forwading as nessessary and you'll be able to wipe lock change settings outside on your network, providing the device is online. -
App Store hanging on upgrade to Mountain Lion from 10.6.8
I've got a Mac Pro (shown as version 3,1 in System Profiler) which is running 10.6.8 Server and I'm trying to get it to upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Unfortunately when I click on the "Buy App" button - or even if I click on the "Updates" button - the App Store application spins the progress icon for a little bit, but then hangs with the basketball of death. In the end I have to force-quit it - even leaving it for several hours doesn't help.
I've tried booting the Mac in to safe mode, resetting the NVRAM and similar - all to no avail. The host can reach the internet with no issues - I can see the initial app page, find the Mac OSX Mountain Lion page, etc. Its only after I've clicked the button to purchase the software that it hangs. I've tried booting it into the Apple Hardware Test, via holding down D at bootup, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to work.
Anyone got any ideas of how to proceed from here ? I've got a sinking feeling that the host will end up just staying at 10.6.8!Thanks for poking me to look at the console logs! That led me to find the error message:
App Store[762] <Error>: CGBitmapContextGetBitsPerComponent: invalid context 0x112f90060
Which in turn pointed me to https://discussions.apple.com/message/15431640#15431640
Renabling Spotlight (see http://osxdaily.com/2011/12/10/disable-or-enable-spotlight-in-mac-os-x-lion/ ) allowed the App Store to work again!
Just why the App Store requires Spotlight to work is beyond me. -
IWeb Hangs at launch in Mountain Lion
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion ... when I launch iWeb ... it just hangs .... I can't open my domain ... help!
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home()/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Hang on Install of Mountain Lion
Hi;
I have two machines with Lion installed. I'm moving to Mountain Lion. I successfully installed ML on my Air but I'm having problems on my MBPro. It's an Intel Pro with enough space and RAM.
I've backed up and turned off virus and malware programs. Several times I've tried to install but the install stalls at the window that says "installation will take about 34 minutes". The progress bar does not appear and does not move. I've had to relaunch under the HD each time.
Any ideas?
ThanksIs your MBP a compatible model? Processor, space and RAM aside, there are only certain models ML will actually work with.
Supported
Models
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Since you say you have an Intel Pro (do you mean Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo?), I think you might have an older MBP. I think the earliest processor that is supported is the Core 2 Duo. Mountain Lion is a fully 64-bit operating system. Earlier MacBookPros are 32-bit. -

If you didn't tell it to migrate, then it won't migrate anything.
It just does a quick check at launch to see if there is a previous version, then asks you if you would like to migrate presets from that previous version. It only does any significant work if you tell it to migrate the old presets.
It is remotely possible that even the quick check for old versions could take a while if there was something wrong with your disk or volumes mounted on your system - but I haven't seen that happen. -
How do I add spaces in mission control in mountain lion?
I use an external monitor on the right side of my mbp, the external monitor (when in use) is my main screen. I want my (auto retracting) dock on the right side of my right screen (the external one). The top right corner is my hot corner for mission control.
With this setup, when I move my mouse to the right top corner I'll enter mission control, but somehow the "add a new space pop-up button" will not show up. I haven't tried this setup in Lion so I do not know if this is a bug for ML. I really like my dock on the right side of the screen, left is no option and I'm sick of having it at the bottom, but I do want to be able to add spaces, any thoughts how to do this?multiple ways,
go to mission control and:
hold option, a half of a desktop with a plus will appear, click it.
drag an application's window next to the spaces there are already.
put an app in fullsreen mode.
move mouse over the top left side of the screen, and the desktop with the plus sign will appear to add a new space. -
OSX Server hangs on Configuring Services (Mountain Lion 10.8.2)
Just installed OSX Server for the first time. I'm going through setup, and when it either tries to check on push notifications with my Apple ID, or when I skip past that and it starts configuring services, I get an exception in /var/log:

How can I add RSS feeds to Mail in Mountain Lion?
There is no longer an option in mail in the File menu, to add RSS feeds to Mail. When I am in Safari and click on the "Reader" button it gives me directions to go to mail, and click "Add RSS Feed" in the File menu but that option is not there when I am in Mail. Any suggestions?

Profile manager 3.1.2
I am experimenting with iPads for approx 430 students so I have installed an OSX server vs 3.1.2 on Mavericks 10.9.3.
When I try to enroll an ipad via the url https://mysite.something.etc/mydevices the ipad gets the option to enroll but after installing Remote Management successfully I go straight back to the Enroll button and in profile manager the device is only added as a place holder.
The user has the rights to add a device in profile manager.
The server is tied to Active Directory and the user / group accounts come from AD.
Any ideas would be apprecaiated.
GeoffBack up all data.
Quit the Server application and drag it to the Trash, but don't empty. You'll be prompted to confirm that you want to stop all services. You won't lose any data.
Put the app back where it was and launch it. Test. -
Profile Manager - Not Found The requested URL /wiki was not found on this server.
I have installed Lion Server with Web and Profile Manager services. When I log into the profile manager web page I receive the message "Not Found The requested URL /wiki was not found on this server." I followed the guide here for install http://krypted.com/iphone/setting-up-profile-manager-in-lion-server/.
This was the fixed I found
Fixing profile manager has been solved by someone else:
1. Turn off all services under Server app.
2. Under Hardware, settings, change SSL certificate to "none"
3. Under Hardware, network, reset host name again.
4. Under Hardware, settings, change SSL certificate back to correct one
5. Turn Web service ON.
It may still say /var/empty.
6. Turn Wiki service ON
7. Recheck Web service. It should be changed to /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default. -
How to write .CSV file to import device placeholder into Lion Server Profile Manager?
I'm now using Mac Mini with Lion Server (10.7.4). I've already setup a server with Profile Manager to manage some iOS devices.
Now I need to add many devices into Profile Manager. From some articles, (for example http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book/-/9780132778879/chapter-4dot-managing-accou nts/ch04lev1sec3), I found that I can use .CSV file to import many device placeholders at a time. So I create a .CSV file "devices.csv" with the content as the following:
iPhone001,12345ABCD12,,,
Then I import this file to "Devices" in Profile Manager, but in vain. It says that the placeholder is invalid.
If there's any one could provide some exemples? Thanks a lot.Hi Nien-Yi Ho,
A little late, but perhaps someone else can benefit ...
The way I did this, is:
- create an empty Excel spreadsheet
- add 5 headers in the first row: DeviceName, SerialNumber, IMEI, MEID, UDID
- in the next rows add your devices and specs (for the iPhones and iPads I only added DeviceName, SerialNumber and IMEI specs)
- IMPORTANT: save the file as a Windows CSV file.
If you import the CSV file now, all should go well. -
How to use Lion Server Profile Manager to require password after screensaver
Our Company is upgrading to Lion server. One of our requirments for network security is to require a password to wake the computer from sleep or screensaver. In SL Server you would add a key to the com.apple.screensaver entery in workgroup manager.
In Profile Manager in Lion server there is a custom setting section and I have tried adding a key there but it does not seem to work. Can anyone offer some help on how to put the require password to wake from sleep or screensaver in Profile Manager so the setting gets pushed out?Hi CodyCodes,
Just discovered the same issue today as well. Further complicating things, the screensaver timeout setting in Login Window doesn't apply to Profile Manager clients no matter what the setting. This was reproduced and confirmed by the Apple Tech I was working with. He's submitted the bug to their engineering staff. I requested that he ask them why there is no setting for password on sleep or screensaver. Hopefully this is resolved soon, as this feature is 99% of the reason we're implementing Profile Manager to begin with.
Cheers

CF10 debugging slow performance
I'm working on a CF7 to CF10 migration. If I turn on debugging in CF10 I'm seeing high page rendering times of the order of 100 seconds per page. This didn't happen in CF7. The CPU goes to 100% for the duration of the request. It seems the debug rend
