On iTunes 11 you can do it via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, or I've changed the view on mine so that the old sidebar shows via View > Show Sidebar and I can then control-click the device (right-click if you are on windows) and select Transfer Purchases from the popup

In order to prevent the loss of valued purchases from your iPhone or iPad, you may need to back up your important purchased items to somewhere safe, your computer or iTunes library, for example. You can transfer purchases manually before you sync your iPhone or iPad to iTunes.

How do I transfer selected purchases to my Mac?

I've downloaded several TV shows onto my Apple TV. Different shows, different episodes. How do I transfer at least one show to my Mac and ultimately to my iPhone?
I don't have the hard drive space to transfer ALL of the shows - I just want ONE show transferred.

Oh boy. Nobody understands what I want to do. I just want one single TV episode off my Apple TV and onto the Mac so I can copy it to my iPhone.
By the way, if I attempt to make any sync changes, iTunes threatens to erase everything on my Apple TV! I have 50+ shows on there that I want to back up someday too. I have an external drive, no problem there, but the Catch-22 is if I try to change any settings, all my shows will be erased. The term sync seems to only mean to transfer from the iTunes library on my Mac to the Apple TV. I need to go the opposite direction! I purchased the TV shows via the Apple TV so they went there and only there.

I've just updated iTunes to ver. 11 on my mothers new PC and I'm connecting her iPad up for the first time. I can't see anything like the transfer purchases option that exsisted in the previous versions. I've tried to eject and start again, but it's still not giving me the option like it used to when you connected a device for the first time.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer is based on you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is purchased content.

How do you transfer movies purchased on iTunes to watch through USB on TV.

I was wanting to purchase new release movies from iTunes instead of buying them on DVD from retail store. I was wanting to transfer some of them to a USB so my daughters can watch them on their tv as well but for some reason the coding won't allow it. I don't want to do anything illegal just watching the movie I purchased on another tv. I don't have Apple TV and not wanting to purchase one at the moment either.

iTunes movies are DRM protected and have to be played back with an Apple device. I presume the same applies to any legal online movie purchase as this is something the media companies likely determine. If they want to play it back on their TV and you do not have streaming capability then you'll have to go with a DVD player.

The iTunes source list is where you select things like your Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, AudioBooks in your iTunes library, and where your iTunes playlists for music is located.
Selecting your iPhone under Devices in the iTunes source list is how you make your various selections for syncing content with iTunes on your computer.
