I need help on how to delete duplicates in my library I had all my music from google play put into my itunes and it duplicated so I have two of each song and wish to have all duplicates deleted how do you do this easily?

Photos does not have a duplicate finder tool built in. You would need a third-party application to track them down, if you do not want to do that manually.

My point is my photos are not importing as duplicates, they are duplicating and moving from one album to another, sometimes bumping the contents of said folder to another location. How can I easily delete duplicate files in old Time Machine archives?

I have multiple older Time Machine archives from different Macs that I have been going through manually and picking files out and copying them to another drive file by file. I'm running into massive quantities of duplicate files and the biggest problem is muliple iphoto pictures including the same picture in different sizes.
I wanted to give up and just throw the whole Time Machine archive onto another disk so I could format the one it was on and use it for something else. But I got a message reading, "The backup can’t be copied because the backup volume doesn’t have ownership enabled." So I went to manually copy each "Macintosh HD" folder for each date into it's their own respective folders. It worked but required my password for each folder and each of the 19 folders were all ~75GB. Which is impossible because all of that data was on a 500GB drive.
What should I do? This has become a two month long nightmare.

I really don't know exactly, but since no one else has a answer I'll give it a shot.
I don't know much about TimeMachine at all, however I did assist someone that their TM was corrupted and they needed to salvage what they could off the drive, so I'll start with that.
There is software called Data Rescue and it's designed to read the 1's and 0's of any data on the drive, deleted or not, regardless of the file structure, and output the results to another drive.
TimeMachine tries to save space, so it uses what appears to be duplicate files, but contain no data as they are placemarks for files in later states that went unchanged from the previous states.
If Data Rescue has the option of recovering files independently of the file/folder structure this would result in all your files from the recoved TM drive being on all one level on the second drive.
From that second drive one could run software called DeCloner, which would flag the actual duplicate files of content, not just by name.
The next stage perhaps would be to eliminate files with no data, the placeholders, using the Finder "size" as a sorting option.
Saving all this remaining content to another drive to work on further, perhaps all the remaining image files can be seperated, sorted according to largest size, the largest ones (usually the ones you want to keep as they contain more quality) and opened into iPhoto or Aperture for further refinement as you add a small batches of smaller image sizes in to compare with the larger versions for duplicates/unwanted sizes.

Photos has no built-in tools to screen the library for duplicates. It relies on the warning on import, that should prevent you from importing duplicates.
Once duplicate shave been imported, delete them manually, or use third-party tools.

How do you open a book on your library shelf?

Adobe digital editions is unnecessarily difficult to use. It doesn't have to look like a library it just has to work. I cannot seem to open a book or change the list on the shelf. I want to change the order of the list and cannot do that. Listen guys just make it easier. Highlight your choice, select it and voila open it...and start reading. ? I downloaded a book and can't open it ---then all the way on the right side of the page it says missing. How is it missing? It is on my list.

I tried that but only had 3 choices.....open, delete and sometig else I can't see right now. anyway...programmers should lie writers consider wh0 they are writing for. Some of us, (and who are people who read most?Oldsters, invalids, those who are not physically active) are stay at home and older and not so computer savvy. If your program is too convoluted for lots of people , your product will not get used and your company will not make any money. Your product will fall by the waside infavor of more easily used programs.
I will work it out because I am not the type to give up. But I will not enjoy it. Thanks for your help.

Don't panic! Things aren't that bad.... We all expect programs to work in a certain way, based on what we thinkthey should do and how they should do it. You can ease the pain by reading the HELPsection in ADE (F1 key from Library view), which has explanations of how itworks. You can change the display order in Library mode easily. Clickon that arrow, and a drop-down box will show you what your options are -all seven of them. If an ebook is 'missing', it could be that the download process did notfinish correctly. That could happen for a number of reasons beyond thecontrol of ADE, including disconnection before the ebook was finalized, a'hiccup' during the download, an issue with the ebook's data and other notso common problems. Try deleting the title from your Library anddownloading the ebook again. That's all I can suggest, because I haven'tfound a way to 'fix' that situation without doing another download. ============

How do you see the size of your library now in iTunes 11?

On iTunes 10 when you were looking at your song list, at the bottom everyone has seen the small informative text that tells you how many days it would take to listen to the songs that you currently have on the screen. Where is that information now??

Since the new update (Itunes 11), file, show duplicates is no longer there. I have just wiped my computer and all of my music resynced to my library twice and so now i have doubles of everything... I would like to know how I can view them all to delete them. if you could tell me what the new ability/directory it is under it would be much appreciated.

The show duplicates/show exact duplicates features have been left out of iTunes 11. Rumor suggests they will be restored in the next build. In the meantime I have written two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates, either from a selection of tracks or the entire library. Note that, as with the iTunes feature, this list makes no distinction between "originals" and "dupes", you have to decide which is which.
There is also my DeDuper script for automatically removing duplicates copies but keeping one remaining copy of each set. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.
If you want to manually remove duplicate tracks use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send the others to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file.

There are two apps, actually one app and one Applescript script, for finding and removing duplicate photos from iPhoto. They are:
Duplicate Annihilator
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates (free)
HOWEVER, only try the above if you are seeing the duplicates in the iPhoto window. If you are seeing duplicate images via the Finder then you probably do not have duplicates. That's because at a minimum iPhoto will have two separate image files of each photo, the original and the thumbnail file. If the photo is a portrait oriented photo from a camera with the auto-rotate feature there will be a 3rd, modified image file in iPhoto, the rotated version.
So be sure where you're seeing these duplicates.

Although iPhoto does ask you about duplicates when importing from the camera, sometimes duplicates occur anyway. Because of recent problems with my library there are no many duplicates in my recovered and restored library. Is there an easy way to search out and delete duplicate photos once they are in the library?
The version is actually iphoto '09

I had a library on both desk top and lap top but kept them separate. Somehow the one on the lap top got messed up so I have been trying to be sure I didn't lose photos by going back to various folders where I had kept some and importing them into the library on the desk top, However, I think the dates got messed up on some and for some reason on the imports iPhoto did not catch all the duplications. I did not intentionally at least import one library into another.
So I will try Duplicate Annihaliator. I assume it is relatively safe to use.

I have combined photos from various sources, friends, family, etc. and have found that there are many photos that are the same. I have been trying to find a way to find and delete all the duplicates but am unable to do so.
Anyone have any ideas please?

There is no automated may to find and delete duplicates, but importing using iPhoto will report duplicates if you attempt to import the same photo twice. I'm not sure if you have photos that are exact duplicates or photos taken on the same occasion but, in any case, it may be a matter of viewing the photos in date order and deleting duplicates as you scroll through. These will stay in the iPhoto trash until emptied.
