I just bought a used 1st Generation Apple iPad 64 GB, 3G. How can I open an Apple App account? I am trying to download a free app and it says I have to have an account, however, everytime I try to set up a new account I can fill only fill out some of the information but then the screen goes black and I cannot proceed with the account. At one point it said "no sim card" and I am not sure where one would go if I had one. Do you need a sim card to download free apps? Why won't it let me set up an Apple Account? Any suggestions?
I can think of no reason at all why you need a sim card to creat an Apple ID. Try this first - reboot the iPad and reset the memory.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Afte the iPad starts up again, follow the directions in this support article - exactly - to creat the account without a credit card.

IF ... You are signed into another Apple ID on the iPad you will have to sign out of that ID in order to create a new one. Settings>Store - you can sign out there.
You MUST try to download a free app in order to start the process off correctly. If you were using an email address with another ID that you already created, you will have to have another email address to associate the new ID with. -

Are you trying to open the App Store or www.apple.com/store? Either one you need Internet connectivity.
It might be that you have restrictions enabled as well. -

IF I'll go to Apple store, could they reset my iPad?Did you buy this iPad from somebody else? If you did purchase it second hand and it was not erased properly, you cannot activate it no matter how many times you restore the device. The original owner has to erase it using these instructions.

Upgrade to iOS 6 encountered the following problems in my ipad2.
(1) very low download speed
(2) I can not open my apple gmail in my iPad.
(3) I can't download new apps from Internet.Have tried your suggestion of toggling but unfortunately that has not solved the problem - but many thanks for the suggestion.

If you’re being asked for your own Apple ID, either use Apple’s iForgot service or contact their Account Security team.
If you’re being asked for someone else’s Apple ID, you need to contact the device’s original owner(if this is you, take the device and its purchase receipt to a physical Apple Store) or the person who set the lock.

I just download mountain lion to my mac, now microsoft office suite doesn't work....it says 'you can't open the application 'microsoft word' because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. What does this mean and what do I have to do to fix it?? HELP!!
Install Snow Leopard on another boot partition, or upgrade Microsoft Office to a newer version, or use any number of better alternatives. Some of them are free.

In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for over a year now. Life is better without Microsoft. -
