HT1904 restricting apps that are NOT free

I want to restrict my children from installing any apps that are NOT free. How do i do this? Do i have to restrict their Apple Store use in whole or is there something that will just deny them when they try

Sorry, but there is no option to restrict downloading just to free apps. It would seem like a useful option, so you can suggest it to Apple via their feedback pages, if you wish:

  • "Free" apps that are not free - recourse?

Has anyone experienced any issues with downloading a "free" app and then receiving a text stating the app is 9.99/month?  What is the recourse?
Unfortunately, I don't recall the name of the app (game), but the text I received is a "mobile registration alert" with my phone# and the cost, with name Fonesocial (800-814-2129) in text.  On principle, I texted back complaining about the deceitfulness of the app and refuse to call the number.  I'm watching my bill to see if I get a charge from them.

How do I prevent phone numbers on my account from using Premium Messaging?
Account holders can disable Premium Messaging via My Verizon.
    To disable Premium Messaging:
Make sure you are signed in to My Verizon
Click on the Safe Guards icon.
Under Service Blocks, click on “Add/Remove Blocks”. A list of available service blocks will display.
Check the box next to “Block Premium SMS”.
Note: this needs to be done for each line on the account that you want to prevent from using Premium Messaging. This will prevent anyone from using those lines to subscribe to new Premium Messaging programs or from incurring premium charges from new programs.
Here is a link that should direct you where you need, I found this with a quidk search... http://support.vzw.com/faqs/Premium_TXT_and_MMS/faq_premium_txt_and_mms.html

like someone else suggested, block premium messaging on your account.
This is correct that this is a common way of authorizing a Premium messages but some programmers has figured out other ways to trick you into granting permission to allow them to charge your account. Basically you should be safe from the Market but when you buy from other sites outside the market network they can sometime work the premium message agreement into the agreement policy information to download app.
Best to read everything you are agreeing to these days, electronics agreement  can be just as dangerous even without credit card or account numbers, all they need is cell number.

  • HT2534 If i don't have a credit card can i still purchase songs and other apps that are not free?

i don't have a credit card can i still purchase an album?
if i can, will the bill of the album be added to my monthly bill?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'added to my monthly bill', there isn't a 'monthly bill' for iTunes. If you want to download paid-for items from the stores then you need a payment method on your iTunes account e.g. credit card, Paypal (if you are in the US), iTunes gift cards

  • Restricting apps that aren't free

I know how to set a restriction on the app store (i.e. disabling the app store itself) but I don't want to do that, I only want to restrict purchasing apps that are not free. It's happened before that either myself or someone who's using my phone accidentally buys an app because we thought it was free. Is there a way to do this?

Just remove your credit card from the App store.
You can get free apps but if you try to get one that costs $$ you will first have to put in a credit card #

  • If you download an app that is not free is that charged monthly or is that a one time fee?

i have free apps, but i was wondering about the ones that are not free, are those a monthly charge or is it a one time charge?

An App purchase i.e. a not free one, should be a one time cost. However be aware that you can also purchase a subscription to for example magazines. Subscriptions would be recurring costs. These should clearly indicate this when you try to purchase them. The subscription is normally done within the App itself (the App is typically free).

How to buy apps that are not availble in my region?

    No.
you can ONLY use the itunes store of your country of residence (proven by the issuing country of your credit card and the valid billing address of that card) and ONLY while you are physically located inside the borders of that country.

  • After clearing cash on mac applications won't lunch any more..I tried to delete apps like VLC player with app cleaner and again download and instal new but it's the same..goes for all apps that are not originally part of Yosemite. Please advise me?!

After clearing cash on my mac ( Go to folder: ~/Library/Caches and clear all, than to Library/Cashes and clear all again) applications won't lunch any more..I tried to delete apps like VLC player, firefox.. with app cleaner and again download and install the new one but it's the same..goes for all apps that are not originally part of Yosemite. I have done this cash clean up very often on Maverick without any problems. This time I done it again because I could not open my web site, the server has blocked me and I was trying everything including deleting cash from mac. Please advise me what to do..?!? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • HT204266 i have several apps that are not updating, they are stuck saying "waiting"

I have several apps that are not updating, they are stuck saying "waiting".

    Are you downloading music?
Check by going to iTunes (on iDevice) > downloads and then remove the one that is trying to download, this will then make the others download and when they are finished, the apps will update/install

  • CC showing updates for CC apps that are NOT part of my subscription

    Ok,
Aside from the massive annoyance with the duplicate versions (why didn't they just include both plugin system for a couple of versions?), I've got "updates" for apps that are NOT part of my CC subscription showing up.  I have a full suite of CS6 installed, but only the Photographers bundle for CC.  Yet I'm showing Illustrator and InDesign CC (2014) as available.  It also shows TWO lightroom 5's - one up to date, and one that needs an update.
    What gives?

That still doesn't explain why I'm seeing two different lightroom installations in the CC list - one up to date, and one that's available.  I've previously installed/updated Lightroom through CC by the way.  But when I do run Lightroom it also prompts me to upgrade (which I haven't done either).  Something looks badly broken in the LR update process.
And it doesn't address the available updates for applications (InDesign and Illustrator CS6) that aren't part of my CC subscription.  Since I'm now at the mercy of the CC licensing servers, I'm rather hesitant to risk corrupting my entitlements by doing anything until I understand why my entitlements are incorrect.
Can you help me understand why they are incorrect?

How did you do that?  Do you mean you sync to iTunes that had the ipad library?
The phone with the issue, settings - general - reset - erase all contents and settings - this will wipe the phone clean and then restore from your backup.

  • What will going to happend with app that are not ready for IOS 5?

What will going to happend with app that are not ready for IOS 5?

Most applications will work just fine.  I typically have 150 or so apps installed, and typically only 1 or 2 will "break".  The vast majority of apps will continue to operate just as well as before if not better.  iOS developers are privy to beta testing the upcoming OS, so the week or so before and after the official release you'll see a larger number of apps needing to be updated than normal.  Last night I updated 23 apps, and you'll see alot over the next week or two getting updates.  Most are making minor changes to take advantage of new APIs, or add a new feature based on a new function of the OS (like twitter integration into the OS for example).  Very few apps, (maybe 3-4 percent??) actually are getting updated because they're broken, but there will be a few.  Most of the time, any apps that would break will have already been addressed in an update prior to the release of the new OS, and you've probably already updated that app so that it will work seamlessly and perfectly after the update hits.

  • How do you remove non-App Store apps that are not in Applications from Launchpad?

Hi, this is my first post to the Apple forums...
So, I use the Steam game app a lot to manage my different games on my computer. Recently, I cleaned out the games I no longer wanted or had lost interest in, and all of their files, INCLUDING the .app files stored in Application Support, were successfully deleted. But, Steam also automatically adds app shortcuts to the Launchpad when you download a game, which is an option I always left checked during the download process- because why not, right?
The problem is that now, even after completely deleting ALL TRACE of these apps, they remain on my Launchpad. Just keeping them there isn't a solution; as a very neat, organized person, it would annoy me to the end of time to have random apps on my Launchpad that don't do anything. And since these apps aren't from the App store, they don't have an (X) in the upper left hand corner when you hold down on them.
I don't know tons about Macs, but after a quick scan of things online people have recommended deleting all the files for your Dock under Application Support, because apparently Launchpad is based on your dock. But that doesn't sound right to me. I thought Launchpad was based on Applications? Again, I'm more savvy with Windows but I just got this thing a year ago so I'm doing what I can.
On a side note, these game applications were stored in a folder titled "Games", which was originally identical within both Applications and Launchpad. Once I began deleting apps from the folder in Applications, however, they got stuck in the folder within Launchpad.
I also cannot move Game Center out of the folder in Launchpad, and when I do so it says "This app cannot be modified/deleted", even though I originally had Game Center outside of the folder.
    Computer specs:
MacBook Pro 15 Inch (mid 2009)
Running OS X Yosemite (10.10.1) [I updated just last night, I had been running 10.9 before and still had this problem]
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB

I found the following in the Macbook Help, and the last bullet worked for me.
"You can uninstall apps you got from the Mac App Store, from other websites, or from discs. You can’t uninstall apps that are part of OS X, such as Safari and Mail.
Apps downloaded from the Mac App Store: Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock, hold down an app’s icon until all the icons begin to jiggle, then click an app’s delete button . If you later want the app, you can reinstall it from the Mac App Store. If an icon doesn’t have a delete button, it can’t be uninstalled in Launchpad. For more information about Launchpad, see Use Launchpad to view and open apps.
Apps that have an uninstaller: In the Finder sidebar, click Applications. If an app is inside a folder, it might have an Uninstaller. Open the app’s folder. If you see Uninstall [App] or [App] Uninstaller, double-click it and follow the onscreen instructions.
Apps that don’t have an uninstaller: In the Finder sidebar, click Applications. Drag the app from the Applications folder to the Trash (located at the end of the Dock), then choose Finder > Empty Trash. If you change your mind, before emptying the Trash, select the app in the Trash, then choose File > Put Back.WARNING: When you empty the Trash, the app is permanently removed from your Mac. If you have any files that you created with the app, you may not be able to open them."

  • How to quit MLB at bat audio or apps that are not showing by the lock area

I upgraded MLB at bat so that the audio plays in the background while im multitasking.
Its great how ever I don't understand how to quit the app.
When I double click the home button and swipe to the control area where the orientation lock is it does not show mlb at bat running. It shows only the ipod icon. I thought it was suppose to show the mlb at app like it shows the pandora when pandora is streaming music in the background
Its the same concept of allowing audio to stream ...what gives?
I guess I can hold down the mlb at bat app when first opening my apps that are in the background hold down so it wiggles and then delete it.
    But this is very confusing.

If you double click the home button after starting audio (in MLB)...before you single click the home button to quit...and then swipe to the left, you get the iPod icon. But, if you start audio in MLB, then press the Home button to quit the app and go back to the home screen (while still streaming audio in the background), and THEN double click and swipe to the left, you'll get the MLB icon and MLB audio controls.
By the way, MLB At Bat audio in the background while checking your mail or surfing the web is pretty awesome.

  • How can I log out of one apple ID on my iphone and log back into another apple ID that I have, there are older apps that are not updating because of this I think.

There are four apps that say they are "installing but nothing ever happens...any clue what to do? I believe that it is because I have two apple ID's.
    Thanks.
    Walter

Check the apps in question to be sure they don't say "paused"; if they do, tap them and select stop.  Then try again.  If they don't, I'm not sure what the problem is.  FYI, one my older apps also took quite a while to finally update earlier today...just waited it out and it finally did.
