HT1911 e-mail reset

How do I re-set my Apple ID password on my i-Phone 4?

Giving myself a bump before I call Apple in the morning - this is the first time it's happened, maybe it was caused by 3.0 (even though my mail was working fine the day before)

Go to https://getsupport.apple.com . Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'. • [ LaserJet 300 colorMFP M375nw] Eprint printer e-mail resets randomly

    Hello!
We have 2 printers that use the eprint services. Both are strictly wireless with static IPs.  One has been set up and works fine with no interruption of reset e-mails for almost a year.
The newer printer (LaserJet 300 colorMFP M375nw) resets randomly, sometimes daily. We have to keep recreating new email addresses for the printer to use our auto-print services, which is quite an inconvenience as we cannot use the same email. Since this issue occured a few months ago (printer was purchased sometime in Feb/March 2012) everyday I come in, log into the printer via IP to check on the e-print/web services, especially if we have received sales and nothing has printed automatically. More often than not the ePrint/web services were disabled, the printer removed from our ePrint account, which means turning it back on, adding it back to our ePrint account, and creating an e-mail all over again. Other times the ePrint services are still on, but the e-mail was reset to the random characters email and we again have to apply it or recreate another e-mail to use for our autoprint.
We have had 2 techs out and firmware updated. One for an unrelated issue where our printer mainboard was replaced and the second for this issue where they replaced the mainboard again (?! /sigh ).
I'm looking for any other ideas of what may be causing this. The tech is escalating our issue so hopefully they come up with a resolution. We love our auto-print... when it works. heh

    bfap13,
It appears as if Web Services is being reset on the printer at random intervals. I would defiantly recommend you contacting HP LaserJet phone support if you have not already. It sounds like you may have, since you mentioned that the issue was being escalated. This kind of issue is usually caused by something with the printer that is causing it to reset itself. Since it is a hardware issue, there is not much that I can do for you, but hopefully they can get everything taken care of for you!

I don't know why these thing happens and even when they happenes. It's not after restart or something. Even if I don't swich off the macbook this is happening.
If someone has same problem and know the solution now please let me know.
Or let me know if it is a BUG or something and I/we need to wait for a upgrade from apple.
Too much problem is coming up newadays from Apple. I don't expect these from Apple.
    Thank you so much.

    Hi Mike,
Are your other APPs there, and your Dock the same?
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...

  • Lion Apple Mail resets Outoing Mail Server SMTP to NONE on all iCloud accounts

When I edit accounts in Apple Mail.. sometimes  ALL of my iCloud accounts get their "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) reset from the associated iCloud servers to "NONE".   Which means I have to go to every account and reset them to the proper SMTP iCloud server from the SMTP server list.

Thanks Lanny...tried it...still doesn't work.  Called Apple Support...switched to Tier 2 support person Chris P. Was on the phone with him for 2 hours and 38 minutes...we tried everything under the sun...still can't get to smtp.gmail.com...can't even telnet to it from Mac.  We did network testing too...he thought my router was blocking ports 25, 465 & 587 but the router wasn't. After exhausting every concievable MAC setting, trying a number or solutions, killing the account and re-installing multiple times, his conclusion is that there is a third party software "blocking" the send in gmail...ummmmm...makes no sense to me as everything worked perfectly until I upgraded to OS X. Hence his solution is for me to take my Mac to the Apple Store and have them look at it.  My solution?  Don't use mail on the Mac and keep using Mail on my Windows machine.  I prefer Mac, but I have now spent over the last two days in excess of 10 hours on this problem...it's not supposed to be this difficult. Lesson Learned...if something's working, DON'T goof with it...Apple Mail under Snow Leopard worked perfectly...upgraded to Mt. LION (paid for it) and now I am really paying the price for doing that.

  • Mail reset to day one.

Couple days ago I noticed the "you have mail" sound I've been using for years had reset to default all by itself. Then started noticing other things that had changed from the way they've always been set. Everything else was working normal so i went on for a couple days cause i was too busy to deal with it. Then when firefox started lagging & getting glychy, I started closing windows to quit and restart when mail quit all by itself. I restarted the computer and when it started back up, mail opened on it's own and started trying to send out three years worth of Calander reminders. It couldn't send anything because all of my accounts and settings were GONE. It was like I was opening mail on a new computer for the first time and it was using a me.com account I must have set up long ago and never used.
Restarting, Permissions, all the usual and nothing changed. I look in my library folder under Mail and the accounts folders are still there but Mail isn't recognizing them.
    1) Most importantly, any idea how I get my old Mail back?
    2) What the @#T% happened?
My machine is a pre intel (2005 ish) G5 desktop, dual 1.8Ghz PPc  running 10.5.8
Everything else is still working fine (for a dog old computer...)

    Hmmm, first do this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Move the above file to the Desktop for now, then start Mail & setup the Accounts again exactly as they were.
Alternativly you could try this instead...
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ does not exist.

    Hi Bart,
The OS does a good job logging. I would start by looking at your current system.log. Look for problems with authentication and lines that reference when the sudo command has run. Also look at the archived system logs compare the different logs. Look for remote logins in the wtmp log. Also check wtmp's archived logs. This is done with the last command in the Terminal.app, the archived logs will have to be unzipped to look at them. Check the secure.log. The secure.log records instances when GUI apps run at an elevated level, also logins. A good cracker knows how to cover his tracks. You may find nothing in the logs indicating your computer had an intruder.
If you feel your computer has been compromised then remove it from the internet connection. Back-up your user home folder. Clone your start up drive to a diskimage. If you can't then make a copy of the /bin, /etc, and /var directories. This can be used as evidence should you report the intrusion.
You need to re-install the OS. It might be a good idea to reformat the drive and zero the drive to flag bad blocks. Reconnect the computer to the internet and turn on the firewall. Use sofware update to update the OS to the highest level with all security updates. Reinstall any third party apps from installers not from any back up. Your user data should be re-introduced selectively and then only data files. Check that none of these files have the executable bit set. Use a virus scanner (Clamav) to check the files. And make sure you choose a good password.

  • Mail Reset After Kernel Panic- Accounts/Rules/preferences missing

My MbP had a kernel panic this evening and after the restart, I opened mail and got the "Welcome to Mail" message.
Tried restarting again, resetting pram (not sure why, but did), deleting preferences, etc. But all my mail preferences and accounts are missing.
They do still exist in the ~/library/Mail folder
But all my rules, smart folders, custom settings, etc are gone.
Any idea why this would happen?

Just wanted to make a quick reply because I had the same problem happen today, my MacBook Pro running 10.6.6, crashed with a kernel panic while using mail, although after checking the logs, it appears coreaudio caused the crash (had iTunes open in the background, perhaps a problem there?), had to do a force shutdown and restart (this is a very rare occurance that my MBP crashes).
When I started up again, mail would not start directly, instead was asking for details to set up a new account with the 'Welcome to Mail' message.
The fix was to move the mail preferences file (~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) to the desktop (or trash) and recover the most recent preferences file (com.apple.mail.plist) from time machine or other backup to the original location (~/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist).
Once I did that, restarted mail and all settings, messages, mailboxes, etc.. were exactly in place with no change (even the message I was typing when it crashed was still in the Drafts folder).
So this fix works as long as you have a back up.
(note I added extra info/explanation into this post for search engine's sake to make it easier to find)

  • Mail reset to default after 10.5.7 update!

Ok I just updated from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7, and now when I launch Mail, it acts like it's a brand new computer. It asks me to enter my address and server info. When I do that, it starts downloading all the messages from scratch. My saved messages still appear in the folders.
I have tried repairing permissions, but that is all so far. No idea what else to check. It's as if a file is missing or was renamed in the Mail Library, but I have done no tinkering.
I hope I don't have to revert to the 10.5.6 backup I just made! =(
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Ok, so I got mine working by deleting my Mail preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. Just move that file to your desktop while Mail is quit. You can always put it back if you like.
The down side is that you lose your accounts and have to set them up again, but all your mailboxes and downloaded emails should be reconnected fine. The preferences file contains the information about the accounts, but not the mail itself.
I tried restoring a backup copy of my preferences file, but as others have mentioned, each time I quit and restart Mail, my accounts were lost again and it asked me to set them up. The only way I found to prevent this was to get move the preferences file aside. Now it quits and restarts without a problem.
Hope that helps. Not ideal, but you can at least get back up and running.

  • Mail reset to default??

For some reason, when I start Mail now, it's asking me to enter my Name, email address, and password - as if to create a new account. I can't seem to get into my existing email folders.
If I look in Library > Mail , I can see that my two email accounts are still shown in there... but why won't Mail see them, and how do I bypass the silly default startup 'wizard' so I can access them?
I wish I could tell you what version of Mail it is, but it's got a 'design feature' so that on startup even "About Mail" is greyed out. Yay!

If there is nothing to preserve, except the application itself then:
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder -- delete it. Next, open Home/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.mail.plist file and delete it.
Relaunch Mail, which will open as new, and again setup your first account.
Ask any needed questions, and keep us posted. If needing to save any mailboxes, the following would be the procedure:
Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library and locate the Mail folder. Control-click over the Mail folder, and choose Duplicate -- then drag the resulting copy to the Desktop for temporary backup. Next, open Home/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.mail.plist file and drag it to the desktop.
Relaunch Mail, which will open as though new, and when prompted to import anything DECLINE. Instead, re-enter your account info, and Mail will re-discover the account folders for your accounts, and all should be well.

  • Mail resetting itself, Lost everything!

I have a Intel iMac with 10.4.8, I had set up my mail program with all my email addresses and accounts totaling 12 e-mail addresses with different pop and smtp addresses. It has been working fine for 3 months, I open the mail program this morning and it is like it was the first day I got the computer it asked to look at new features and now the only e-maill address on there is my .mac all my others have disappeared. I looked in my user/library/mail folder and all the folders are there for each account but mail will not use them. I tried repairing permissions and did a restart but still the same thing just the .mac account is listed in mail. How do I get mail to read the folders in the user/library/mail folder again? What causes this and how do I prevent it from happening again? Thanks Mike

What’s the capacity and space available on your startup disk? Take a look at the comments about disk space in the following article, in case they apply to you:
Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space
Even if there is enough space available on the startup disk, for some reason that remains a mystery to me, Mail sometimes “thinks” it must discard the current ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and create a new one. As a result, all your non-.Mac account settings (but not the messages themselves), which are stored in that file, are lost.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what’s it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), quit Mail if it’s running, and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, just in case something else goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. This is where all your mail is stored.
    You have three options now:
    (1) Restore com.apple.mail.plist from a backup if you have one. Mail shouldn’t be running while you do this.
    (2) Set up your non-.Mac accounts in Mail again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done. You’ll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    (3) Mail may have renamed the old preferences file to com.apple.mail.plist.saved. If that’s the case, you may try moving the new com.apple.mail.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences/ (e.g. to the Desktop) and rename the old com.apple.mail.plist.saved back to com.apple.mail.plist. Again, be sure Mail isn’t running while doing this. Since Mail decided to discard it, I would expect this file to be corrupt (I don’t understand why would Mail discard it and create a new one otherwise), but apparently that often is not the case and the settings can indeed be restored by just renaming the file.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Mail reset and prompt to create account again

I just restarted my computer and for some strange reason when I tried to open Mail again it asked me to create an account which was already created. I don't know what happened to my current one. I tried trashing the two files in the Preferences and the Envelope Index from the Mail folder in the Library but had no luck at all. Does anybody know how to bring back my current account? Any help is very appreciated.
    Thank you in advance!
    Luis

Thanks V.K., and I apologize for not being very specific, I was talking about the files in Home/Library/Preferences and the Envelope index in the Home/Library/Mail. Regarding shutting down and power outages, I can tell you I always shut my computer down properly and as far as I know there hasn't been any outages today or in the past few months. Also, I actually didn't trash the files, I just moved them to my Desktop.
After removing the com.apple.mail.plist out of the Home Preference's folder I relaunched Mail and still gave me the Welcome window. I will try creating the account again but I will make a backup copy first just in case it wipes out the one currently there.
    Thanks again for the reply.

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?
