my son has downloaded games on my iphone4s which cost money and my card details are on the phone but it says they were unable to process the payment but for me to be able to use the account it says it needs to be paid but i will not pay it as i did not give permission for it, how can i take my card details off the account without them taking any money?
All purchases are considered final but you can try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support and see if they will cancel the purchases : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
In terms of removing your card's details (you may not be able to do so until what is owed is paid or support cancel the purchases), the page that you posted from has info on how to do it

It sounds like you have a credit card saved to your Apple ID payment information and you would like it to be removed from the account and set the payment method to None. You should be able to do this with the following article:

Click to open your account in iTunes (you may need to sign in with your Apple ID), or follow these steps:
Open iTunes and click iTunes Store.
Click Sign In and enter your Apple ID.
Click your Apple ID and select Account.
From the Account Information page, click Edit to the right of Payment Type.
You can see the payment methods that the iTunes Store accepts in the Payment Type section.
If you want to remove the payment method, select None in the Payment Type section. See what to do if None isn't showing or you can't select it.
Change your information and click Done.

If the option to select "None" from the list of payment types doesn't appear, then there is a billing is with your last purchase which needs to be resolved first. -

If it's a debit card that you are trying to use then I don't think that they are still accepted as a valid payment method - they are not listed on this page and there have been a number of posts recently about them being declined
If it's a credit card then is it registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, it was issued by a bank in your country and you are currently in that country ? If it is then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes support and see if they know why it's being declined : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page -

You don't need a credit card to update apps you have already purchased.
The article you referenced will explain how to update your existing payment information.
Usually all you have to do is update the expiration date and enter the 3 or 4 digit code to do that.
