i used to get emails saying what i recently bought and downloaded and now i don't anymore. Is there any way i can change that?

Is it possible to use sar to find out what process maxed out a solaris 10 t5140 at 4am? Would I use sar for this or some other application such at dtrace? We have a few spikes that happened between 1am and 4am and I need to know what caused it.

I don't see sar doing this well.
You could run a cron job to grab a 'ps' list at that time, or you could use 'dtrace' to give you a list of every program that executes during a period of time. Either might be good information.

I have come across these warnings over the last few days regarding a Mac botnet malware? The Independent published it
17,000 Macs recruited into malware botnet, with a little help from Reddit
Researchers at Russian anti-virus company Dr Web believe that they have uncovered a new botnet, which has recruited thousands of Mac computers. According to their report, the sophisticated malware – which they have dubbed Mac.BackDoor.iWorm – has infected more than 17,000 computers running OS X. Unfortunately, what isn’t presently documented is how the malware spreads – but the consequences can clearly be serious.Like any computers that have been recruited into a botnet, Macs that have been hijacked in this attack could have information stolen from them, further malware planted upon them, or be used to spread more malware or launch spam campaigns and denial-of-service attacks.Fascinatingly, compromised computers receive commands from servers under the control of botmasters, using information posted in messages on Reddit as a navigational aid:Then Mac.BackDoor.iWorm opens a port on an infected computer and awaits an incoming connection. It sends a request to a remote site to acquire a list of control servers, and then connects to the remote servers and waits for instructions.It is worth mentioning that in order to acquire a control server address list, the bot uses the search service at reddit.com, and — as a search query — specifies hexadecimal values of the first 8 bytes of the MD5 hash of the current date. The reddit.com search returns a web page containing a list of botnet C&C servers and ports published by criminals in comments to the post minecraftserverlists under the account vtnhiaovyd.

'Basically, the worm installs itself to look like an application to the operating system and hooks into the automatic startup so that it will launch each time the computer is started.
Once it's running, it does an inventory of what applications you have installed.
It then goes out to reddit to find out where the current botnet command and control servers are located. It then connects to the command and control server to ask for instructions.
The likely reason it looks at the applications that are installed is so that it can use those applications to carry out the botnet's commands (e.g., use Mail to send spam as you.)'

How can I use syslog to find out what websites my kids visit?

I want to review what sites my kids have been visiting on their computers, from my computer. I know that the AirPort Extreme has a logging feature.
First, at what level of logging do I set it so I can determine the sites they visit (5-Notice, 6-Informational, 7-Debug)?
Second, How can I easily view the log from my MBP?
I have already set up a DHCP reservation for my MAC address and applied that IP/MAC address reservation in the "Syslog Destination Address" box, under Logging & Statistics. I have already determined what MAC addresses are for each machine in our home. I'm guessing that the logs will show each MAC address and what sites it has visited, yes?

How to find out what the latest update is for something from apple's site?

i've never been able to do this, and has been a recurring problem for many years:
how can you, using apple's web site -- presumably the support or downloads section -- find out what the latest update for/of a certain product is?
without going into the details, the software update app is of no use to me.
for example, i have a airport extreme base station 54 mbps. how do i go about finding out what it's latest software is? do such products not have a web page which has the latest update linked to from it?
why is it so hard, impossible i find, to find out what the latest software is?
any pointers much appreciated. (i'm not particularly looking for the answer to "what't the latest update for a airport extreme base station 54 mbps?" but a general method for finding out the latest update for anything using apple's web site)

you can filter results to give downloads for the search words airport extreme base station. The return will be in date order from newest to oldest. Yo ucan also designate word pairs of groups to narrow the search.

How can I find out what apple IDs are tied to an email address

We are trying to set up FaceTime and got the verification error on the email address. We went in to the Apple ID account and when we verify the email address, it tells us that it's tied to another AppleID. My daughter has 3 other AppleIDs and we've checked each one of them and the email address is not tied to any of them.
How can we find out what apple ID is tied to this email address?
We have used the "Forgot my Apple ID" function and used all 3 of the different email addresses she's used on the accounts and when we access the one that says there's a duplicate, it takes us to the account and it's the one with the email address that I noted above.
Any thougts or help?

The password is good for 15 minutes to make purchases. You should receive a receipt in 24 to 48 hours for the purchases. There is a link to Report an issue. You could use that to start a conversation with iTunes Support about a refund.
Apple considers all sales final. But has been known to offer a one time refund. So the question is, do you want to use your one time refund on this purchase or one more expensive in the future?

I've noticed recently there is a constant active internet connection on my phone. If I disconnect it in connection manager it just starts again but I can't figure out which application on my phone is causing this as there is nothing running in the open applications window but I know alot of apps can hide now.
Is there any way to find out what needs this constant connection?

Hello, dear brothers in arms...I have exactly the same problem with my new Nokia C7.
It is connecting to WLAN automatically less then a minute after I disconnect it !
I have set as follows: Menu->Settings->Connectivity -> Settings:
Switch to WLAN: MANNUAL
Data use in home country: ALWAYS ASK
Data use when abroad: ALWAYS ASK
and however, it is trying to connect all the time.
When at home - it stays connected to my home WLAN (despite all the disconnections I make manually).
When out of coverage of my home WLAN - giving reports "Connection failed" every few minutes.
Of course the battery lasts not more then a day.
Have double checked - my email boxes are set on "Sync frequency: MANNUAL SYNC ONLY"
I did not set any application for any automatic actions...
Any idea how to control this smarty?

Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app (or video app) on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
