My husband and I share the same email account. We each have and iPod and I have an iPad. How do we set up our own accounts to purchase items from iTunes store without losing current downloaded info?

that would be just Mail, not iMail.
what you are asking really has nothing to do with the particular email client you are using but rather with the kind of email accounts you have. if you have an IMAP email account then it's automatically synced with the server on all computers and you never have to worry about synchronization. If you have a POP account then it's more problematic. I think yahoo only provides POP access. POP dos not synchronize with the server and simply downloads messages once you access the server. the only thing you can do with a POP account is check the option to leave messages on server after downloading so that all computers can get them. this should be done in every email client on every computer that uses that email account. in Mail go to Mail preferences->accounts->advanced and check the option to leave messages on server.
also, you might want to consider switching to an IMAP account. gmail and AIM provide free IMAP accounts with loads of storage space.

Same article, different languages help!!!

I have a project for a client which requires one article per folio (4 folios in total), each article has two language optins, English and Chinese.
The problem I'm having is that when you get to the end of the first article, (lets say the English version), if I continue to scroll the Chinese version automaticaly apperas. What I need to happen is the language options to only be chosen via the language buttons I've set up. So in essence hiding one language article from the other until it's called for.
Does anyone know how I can achive this?

The design is a very simple, it's simply two identical articles but in different languages.
So it's not really buttons, the problem is that I need the English article not to continue into the Chinese article while scrolling.
But thanks I will look through the tips link you sent and see if I can solve it.

The music files, were they bought from your iTunes account or did someone gift them to you after buying from the iTunes account? If they are yours you can download them again if you clear or de-authorise the ipod, it has to be done by whoever gave you the ipod to do this (the registered owner). If they were bought for you on another itunes account I don't think Apple let you use them as they are copyrighted and they don't belong to you, they belong to the person who bought them. If the music files where ripped from music cd's then click and drag them to a new folder on your desktop and have the person who gave you the ipod to de-authorise and unregister it. Then you re register it and put your files back from your desktop folder in your iTunes folder and synch. Hopefully that would work. Any files which you did not buy, I would not know how get around this, best bet is to take it to you nearest Apple Store and explain that they were gifted to you and ask how you can use them. The best way to gift music files is to buy the gift tokens and give these. Hope above helps.

IF you do find a backup that has your contacts; I'd /highly/ recommand turning off your wifi network after the restore is finished because if the issue is with your iCloud your contacts may merge back with her's.
With iCloud you DO NOT want to share the account; bad things happen Evil evil thigns...
But in all seriousness; if two devices have the same iCloud; iCloud is told to merge and sync infomation between hte two and can't tell that it doesn't belong to the same person

I've set up my daughters ipod touch last year all fine. She's had a mini this yr but when setting up facetime and entering her email address, which is used on the touch, I get an error message saying the address is already being used.
I thought you can use the same email address on multiple devices.

I have four different email addresses setup on my Mac, iPod Touch and my two iPads that I can select from and use as the email address with no problems at all.
Turn off FaceTime, and sign out of the Apple ID in the FaceTime settings, restart the iPad and try again. Turn FaceTime on again, sign in with the Apple ID and then try the email address again.

By "game center account", do you mean Apple ID?
If so, you can change it.
1. Tap settings and navigate to iTunes and App Stores
2. Tap "Apple ID" and then tap "Sign Out"
3. Log in with a different ID.

HT1918 How does one organise the apple ID so that one uses the same email address to have an account on both the UL and Belgian itunes stores?

I have in the past created an Apple ID for use with the UK itunes store, because I want to read in English. If I sign in it seems that this ID will only allow me to purchase from the UK store. But I live in Belgium, so I can't download from the UK store. So I tried to create an apple ID for the Belgian itunes store. But I want to use the same email address as I used for the first apple ID I made (because I'm fed up of having to remember which email address I used for which account). When I tried this, I just get a message saying that the email address is already in use for another account (which I know, because it's me who made that account). Does anyone have a workaround for this?

I'm presuming you went ahead and set up a new Apple ID, yes? Using the same password in more than one Apple ID has worked for me in the past, but I haven't tried it in a while so the tightened security may have changed that. You could use the same password but add "-UK" and "-BE", or something like that, to make it easier to remember.
I understand what you mean about losing the ability to deal with UK purchased stuff, but this is becoming so inconvenient that I do want to delete that UK apple ID account. I have looked everywhere I can think of on the apple website (apple id, itunes, support etc) and I can't find a link/eplanation/contact point that deals with deleting apple ID and itune store accounts. Surely this must be possible?
It's possible, but Apple is very reluctant to do it, and it's not something a user can do on their own. It would be better to just stop using the UK account rather than trying to get it deleted. Just remove your payment information and there should be little reason to have the account deleted. If you really want to try, though, you'll need to send a message to iTunes support specifying that you want the account cancelled.
On a completely different matter, I have bought my son an ipod touch. But since he is younger than 13 years old, how does one go about using the itunes store to get music onto his ipod touch?

Hey Bumblebee, To each other, no-- would be like trying to call yourself on the same phone. To different persons on other devices??? Not sure you'll have to try, I'm guessing if both are online you may well dial up on both, (once had the same address on the my computer and iPod, both would ring when called, this stopped when I changed the iPod's address). It's a snap. Each device has its own name. If iTunes does not assign unique names for the two iPods, change one of the names yourself. You can see both my iPad and my iPod simultaneously on my iTunes because I sync wirelessly.
Simply configure the sync characteristics for each device separately. The iTunes software will know the one with which it's communicating.

Multiple users with different Ipods on same computer

My household has one general computer that is used by myself and my two teenage daughters. We don't use separate logins because it is used mostly to just go online, check our email, and use Itunes along with updating our Ipods. This works fine for us except that we have different Ipods. My question is this: Can one computer (running WinXPProSp2)authorize two different Ipods under the same user name? Also, can two (or three) different Ipods be "authorized" on the same computer?

Yes, your not really authorizing ipods, you just authorize a PC to play songs you buy from iTUnes. Once its authorized all ipods can play the song that connect to it.
You can separate the music that is loaded to each iPod (Like your music only added to your ipod and your girls ipods only updating there music to there ipods) By creating your own playlist and setting the ipod to update them. If you are saying that you both have iCloud accounts and use the same icloud ID, then yes, the contacts will be deleted. The idea is that all devices using the same icloud ID are kept in sync. You need to use different IDs. You can keep the same iTunes ID so you can share the songs and apps. But use different icloud IDs.

The old apple ID has priority (the new one is not allowed to verify my email as it is linked to my old ID) with that email - can someone help me have the two IDs linked to the same email?

I recommend that you
Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure the birthdate yo specify results n an age of at least 13 years old.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.
