HT1923 I'm trying to uninstall and re-install iTunes on a Windows 7 pc. Cannot delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\ as a files is being used. Any suggestyions?

I have tried to remove the Apple file but ShellStreams64.dll is being used by explorer.exe. Obviously if i stop explorer I'm unable to acces the files. Is there a war round this?

I was having trouble with this myself, but I figured it out.
Click the start button and search for "cmd". Right click on it and "Run as administrator".
A DOS black screen will pop up, type "cd\" at the command prompt and press enter.
Open up "start task manager"
Click on the "processes" tab, and search for "explorer.exe". Right click on it and choose "end process".  You should see your windows disappear.
Then type the filepath name of the file that you want to delete, for me it was "cd\ program files\common files\apple\internet services" at the command prompt in the DOS window.  Press enter.
Then type "del shellstreams64.dll", the file should be deleted by now.
Restart "explorer.exe" by using the start task manager.  Click on File and then "New Task (Run)".  Type in  "explorer.exe" in the box and click OK.
Hope this helps you out.

  • Uninstall and Re-installing iTunes on my Windows PC

I mistakenly deleted 'Apple Application Support' from my PC and now I can't open iTunes. It's telling me to uninstall iTunes and then re-install it to fix the problem. If I do this will I lose my music that I burned from CD's (not purchased from iTunes)? I bought a new macbook and need to transfer the music from the PC but I can't open iTunes to copy it. Thanks for any help!

if you uninstall and then re-install itunes you should loss all of your music because it is stored in a seperate place form were iTunes is instaled, trust me i have done it more times then i can count on both of my hands

  • I recently tried to uninstall and then install Office 2004

I recently tried to uninstall and then install Office 2004. All of my email is gone. Folders, messages, contacts. By uninstalling did I permanently delete it? Is there a back-up hiding on my computer?

since Office is not an Apple product, you may find it better to post your question over on Microsoft's own Office For Mac product forums, as they would be more focused to your issue and a solution may already have been posted:

  • HT1923 My computer is not letting me uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support so that I can uninstall and re-install Itunes. Why is it not letting the uninstall complete?

Due to a program error, I need to uninstall and re-install Itunes. While following the instructions provided for removing the program, I found that Apple Mobile Device Support will not uninstall. The program removal begins as normal but when the completion bar almost reachs the end with time remaining - 2 seconds, the bar starts to move in the opposite direction and the time reamaining increases before the window closes on its own. And Apple mobile Device Support is still on my program list.
Does anyone know why the program won't let me remove it? Any suggestions?

    Hi neffn!
I have an article for you that can help you go through that process of uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. If you have Windows 7, you will want to see this article:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
and if you are using Windows XP, you will want to reference this article:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
Note that, as it says in those articles:
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • When starting iTunes get the following message " Apple Application Support is required" uninstall and re-install iTunes. Question will I lose all records currently in iTunes ??  H=

Get a message on Itunes to uninstall and re-install Itunes since " Apple Application Support is required" Will this cause me to lose all records? Is there some to avoid this have tried to repair No LUCK

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you? If so, does iTunes launch properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Uninstalling and Re-installing Itunes

we have 2 computers in our house and we are having trouble with itunes one. when trying to open itunes, there is a pop up saying
    "uninstall itunes and re-install."
if we uninstall itunes, will all of our media vanish???
    HELP PLEASE!!!
    -thanks!!

    Hello turpinx2,
Uninstalling and re-installing iTunes will not cause a loss of media, because it is stored elsewhere on your computer's disk (In your case, probably under "My Music" from under "My Documents). I have done it a few times myself as necessary, and never had any problems.
This article should assist you in uninstalling iTunes if necessary.

  • Uninstall and Re Install ITunes

I have to uninstall and re install Itunes.
I've haven't had to do this before, and I'm not sure what happens to my library if I do.
I have the library on an external drive (I learned after the last hard drive crash not to keep it on the c drive.)
Does uninstalling the software (or reinstalling it) wipe the library? I have 900 song on there, for Chrissake.
Anyone have an answer to this.
Or somewhere you can point me that there is an answer.

Well, I tried uninstalling, then re installing.
Library is ok, but I still get this message: The registry settings used by the ITunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please re install ITunes.
I've seen posted at a number of forums that this is an ITunes problem. I didn't install other cd burning software; I did uninstall one, though. Never the less, I tried using the suggestions at this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372?viewlocale=en_US.
I discovered I don't have upper or lower filters entries. If that's the problem, it doesn't seem to affect anything but ITunes.
And if it is the problem, how does one correct it?

  • HT4528 My Iphone4 is no longer opening in iTunes.  I have Windows 7.  I uninstalled and re-installed iTunes and also added updates to my iPhone.  What should I do?

My iPhone used to work in iTunes but quit working.  I checked my USB portal and it works with other devices.  I also uninstalled and re-installed iTunes.  I added updates to my phone and re-booted it.   I am not sure what else to do.  My iPhone also locked in vertical position and no longer goes to horizontal.

Maybe it would have been a better idea to confirm that iTunes is supported in Windows 8 before buying a computer with that Operating System.
There will be a new version of iTunes released this month... no one forced you to upgrade prior to a supported version of iTunes being released.

    Hello,
All of your content is stored outside of iTunes in the event that the program needs to be removed or reinstalled. Take a look at the article below for instructions on how to properly remove and reinstall iTunes.
