  • Ipod touch not seen in Itunes on windows 7

My Ipod touch has stopped working. I had a new laptop with vista that i upgraded to windows 7. I can see the ipod (as disk storage) on my computer but when i plug in to USB it bleeps but does not lauch or itunes or become visible if itunes already loaded. I have gone through all apple stuff for clean uninstall of every thing and i upgraded to latest version itunes. I went apple store..not very helpful..said my ipod syncs with a mac but cant do anything because they think it is windows 7! Any ideas, its driving me nuts.

    Righty-ho.
    Here's the theory.
AMDS (which we need for Touch recognition) installs the usbaapl.sys and netaapl.sys drivers on a PC. As well as in the Program files, files for those drivers go into some other locations on a PC. Usually, when AMDS is uninstalled, those files and folders get uninstalled. (I just confirmed that yesterday on my XP SP3 box.) But it is possible for some of those files and folders to get stuck and not be removed by an uninstall. (Confirmed that yesterday on a different XP SP3 box.)
I've confirmed that the leftover files/folders can cause trouble with AMDS reinstalls (they are the source of some "rolling back installation" messages during AMDS installs). But I reckon they might also plausibly cause some grief in iPod/iPhone recognition contexts too. That's what we're going to follow up on with you, Stu.
    let's start working on that.
First, we'd better try to track down where the little beggars live on a Windows 7 system. We're going to have to do some settings changes on the PC in order to even see them.
From the Start menu, click Open.
In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    Click the View tab.
In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that:
The "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected
The "Hide extensions for known filetypes" box is unchecked
The "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)" box is unchecked
    Click OK.
Now we're going to run a search for usbaapl ... I don't have a Windows 7 box available for reference, but this is how I'd do it in Vista.
I go "Start > Computer" and type usbaapl in the Search box. When it tells me it can't find it, I click Advanced, select the "search hidden, non-indexed and system files (may be slow)" box, and then wait for an eternity until the green progress bar up on the top of the "Computer" window has completely disappeared.
What files and folders with usbaapl in the name do you see show up in your search results, and what are their file locations?
Now repeat the search, this time for netaapl. What files and folders with netaapl in the name do you see show up in your search results, and what are their file locations?

  • IPod Shuffle Not Seen in iTunes

Okay, this thing was working fine a week ago. Now, when I plug it into the USB port (XP), iTunes starts, and Windows Explorer pops open showing the device. However, it does not appear as a device in iTunes.
    I have:
    reinstalled iTunes
    Deleted the Temp folder
    Booted using msconfig
    Changed the drive letter
    All to no result.
    Help!

....forgot to mention that the iPod itself works fine.

  • Device not seen in itunes after data transfer

I bought an original MacBookPro from my daughter & transferred all my data from PB G4 to MBP.
Everything works just fine, except itunes does not see my ipod touch. I cannot figure out how to get it "recognized" as a device?
    Any suggestions?

    Hello.
    Try the following suggestions below
    1. Perform all Software Updates - Click on Apple logo in top left corner of the OS and choose Software Updates. It will scan the mac and then populate a list of software that needs updating including iTunes if there is any at all.
    2. Connect iPod Touch to another USB Port in the Macbook Pro, If it still does not show up, Disconnect the touch. Reboot the Mac, then reconnect the touch.

  • IPod not seen after iTunes 7.4.2 update

It appears that since updating to iTunes 7.4.2 my 5th Generation iPod is not seen by my e-mac (Disk Utility) or iTunes. The iPod itself freezes when plugged in, will not charge & needs to be re-set in order to be used again.
Lucky I have a separate mains charger.
I guess we'll have to wait for that 'Emergency' update Apple will be sending out any day now.........
..........or does anyone have a better idea?

Now we know why Apple has been selling the heck out of iPods! Very good marketing plan!!! Give you a download that makes your older iPod obsolete, and not usable with the new update (7.4.--) So, you go buy a brand new iPod, figuring it will of course work. Nothing on the box says the new "Classic" won't work on Macs using 10.3.9. Sooooo ...now you have to go buy a new computer. Ahaaa---sales skyrocket!
No help from Apple, two obsolete iPods, an obsolete Nano, and an un-usable new Classic (which I plan to return).... VW

  • Ipod not seen by itunes?

Have bought a refurbed Ipod for my son and set up a new account on my laptop. Husband uses older version of itunes on home pc. Ipod initially picked up by itunes and it has named it but will not generally sync. Have run diagnostics and it says cannot see Ipod but when you connect it says syncing on screen and if you go to file devices sync it says it is synced but it doens't update. I say generally because suddenly a screen came up that showed a picture of the 3rd gen nano and a bar across the bottom and an autofill option which I selected and it filled the nano. Then when I tried to sync changes we had made back to sncing on screen but no change to content. Have reinstalled itunes and reset ipod to no avail. Help - sons birthday in two days - Is the ipod duff or could it be something else?

The fact that Windows sees your iPod as a drive is a good sign, Allan. See this:
iPod does not appear in iTunes
Here's something else you can try for this problem if the tips in the above links don't work:
    1. Quit iTunes
    2. Open the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-Delete)
    3. Click the Processes tab
    4. Locate the following processes (if they're present), and end them:
    -iPodService.exe
    -iTunesHelper.exe
    -iTunes.exe
    5. Restart iTunes

  • IPod Touch not recognised by ITunes but my iPhone 4 works fine.

I am currently not able to sync my ipod touch as it is not seen by iTunes when I connect it.
I am using Windows 7 and the latest version of iTunes and have followed each of the steps listed at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1495
    but still can't sync.
I have listed several key bits of information which I hope someone can explain.
    1. My iPhone 4 sync's fine - same user account under windows, same usb cable.
    2. When i plug in the ipod touch it starts to charge and iTunes appears to hang. e.g hovering over the file menu doesn't highlight the options. If I wait roughly 3 mintues iTunes starts responding again (file menu's are activated) but still doesn't recognise the ipod touch.
    3. If I do this over and over again I 'sometimes' get iTunes to recognise the device but it presents the 'Restore from backup or restore to factory settings'. If I select restore from backup it then informs me the backup is corrupt. The randomness of getting to this stage has no consistent steps and i've been unable to get to this point over the past 3 days.
    4. I recently bought a movie from iTunes and get the message 'The movie could not be played' and since getting this message i've been unable to get iTunes to see the device.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

I've finally managed to get the device recognised my Windows. The solution was to take my ipod touch round to my friends house who own's an apple mac. Plugged into the Mac itunes instantly see's the device and everything is back to normal.
I can know get my Windows 7 machine to see the device in iTunes. The strange behaviour I see on Windows 7 box is, on plugging in the device iTunes hangs if I then unplug the device and reattach it (repeat this several times) eventually iTunes doesn't hang and sees the device.
Not at elegant solution granted but hopefully this may help someone out. This is obviously a software bug (is it that I am also syncing my iPhone?) as I've ruled out all the hardware involved.

  • Ipod 4g not found by itunes 10.6.0.40 under Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi, I own the Ipod Touch 4g. It's found under Windows 7 Ultimate, the icon Apple Ipod is displayed but the Ipod is not detected by Itunes 10.6.0.40.
Ituners needs also a lot of time to start and to display the menus, more than 5 minutes when the ipod is plugged.
An Icon appears in the task bar with the message: "You have some files ready to be burned on L:\". Please insert a disc."
All services are on: Bonjour and Apple Services. The option is Automatically Started.
I desinstall and reinstall Itunes but in vain,  no Ipod touch is seen in Itunes.
I thought it's because my firewall or my virus program  Eset Smart Security 5. I swistch off a while the antivirus but the problem stayed.
I dont know  what to do now? Who can help me?

  • IPod Shuffle Not Recognised by iTunes

    Hi,
My 4th generation iPod Shuffle is not being recognised by iTunes.  When I plug it into my Macbook Pro, running Mountain Lion, the indicator light on the iPod will be continuous orange.  This will switch off after a couple of minutes.

Could it be a faulty cable?
Yes.  If possible, find a new one to test with.
The continuous blinking orange light indicates that the Shuffle is either in the middle of a sync operation with iTunes or is being read by another system process, but only if Enable Disk Use is enabled from under the Shuffle's Summary tab.
Is the connection nice and snug on both ends as can be seen from this article?
