My itunes will not recognize my Ipod shuffle, I have tried almost everything Itunes has suggested including uninstalling and installing Itunes. I am at a loss, the computer recognizes the ipod and assigns a drive to it. When I click on the drive there are flies in it. I have disabled the firewall, checked all firewall settings as suggested in previous forums. I have tried deleting the temp files but that keeps getting hung up on a file that says it is in use. I can stll use my ipod because it charges but I can not update songs etc.
I contacted Mcafee but all they did was turn the firewall off (I could have done that myself).
If there is any help I would appreciate it!

The first thing I did in the morning was contact McAfee they turned the firewall off it didnt work so they said it wasnt their problem. I attempted several other things using ITunes help but none of the solutions worked. I would say it is something in my computer but the drive shows up in my files so the computer is reading the USB port. I tried changing the drive but that didnt help.
I cannot find a universal "OFF switch" in McAfee But I have turned the firewall off several times after many different attempts.
I do not find an area where I can tell Itunes where the Ipod is in Windows Explorer, that would be helpful at least it could try to locate it then. You would think this feature would be available since Itunes would like us to purchase music through them to load on our equipment. Since my computer does not recognize my Ipod there is no need for me to purchase music.

I've been using my 2nd generation nano for over 2 years. Suddenly it's not recognized by iTunes so I can't sync it. The battery is being charged so it's not a cable problem. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Same problem here. iTunes does not recognize my iPhone EVERYTIME I connect it. But, when I open iPhoto, no problem. Also, when I go to 'System Profiler' and click on 'USB' the iPhone shows up in the list.
Any ideas on what is going wrong or how to solve? Apparently the OS knows that the iPhone is connected, and some of the applications do, but iTunes is not listing my iPhone in the Devices section. I Can connect an iPod Shuffle without issue, so this appears to be limited to my iPhone.

Ok people after messing up three days with my jailbroken ipod touch cauze my itunes didn't recognize it i figured out that the problem is first windows recognized it as a imaging device o as a camera, i found in the device manager was listed mi apple ipod under portable devices and there was the problem it has to be listed under universal serial bus controllers named as a apple ipod so this is what i did but first make sure u have correctly installed itunes and the apple mobile device support:
1 open the device manager or windows button + r is run and then type devmgmt.msc
2 look for the portable devices and find the apple ipod or wherever that is listed on your pc.
3 once u find the apple ipod do a right click on it and click on uptade driver software
4 take the manualy opcion or browse on my computer and then look for this folder on your computer C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
there should be the driver that itunes recognize and your windows wont recognize your ipod as a camera again but i repeat u have to make sure u have installed the apple mobile device support u can get it by extracting the itunes+quicktime package using winrar. so click on update or next what ever on the update process and next time itunes will open your ipod for sincying thanks to forums ilounge.com

I just updated Itunes (to 10.5.2.11) and now my old 2nd gen ipod touch is no longer recognised by the program. is my device simply too old to be supported anymore? if it is helpful, the Ipod will not update to IOS 5 either.

Do you have another computer to try? this is just to help see if the iPod is the problem.

ITunes won't recognize my iPod shuffle.

1. My new iPod shuffle (tiny one) is plugged into the USB port. I open iTunes and get this message "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes."
2. I restore the iPod (by pushing button in iTunes).
3. It reads "Your iPod has been restored... and is resetting."
4. Then I get the same #1 message.
5. I removed all the stuff on my hard drive that has either iTunes or iPod in the name, and installed iTunes (7.1.1) again. I also downloaded iPodResetUtility (1.0.2).
6. I ran the resetutility and got the same message in iTunes (#1).
I am operating on a Mac OSX 10.4.9 and took the iPod to a friend who was able to read it fine, no problem.
Now I'm wondering what I can do. It appears that the iPod itself is okay, but ?????
I'd appreciate any suggestions someone might have. Perhaps I will have to take my computer to a professional to have it straightened out??

TS1363 I downloaded the new itunes 10.6. Itunes no longer recognizes my ipod (although my computer does) when i connect it. I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling it did not correct the error. Any advice?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Mac and iTunes no longer recognizes ipod shuffle

All of a sudden, my iTunes doesn't see my iPod shuffle (2nd gen) anymore. It also doesnt appear on the desktop.
When I plug it in, the little orange light flashes, so it is charging. And the ipod itself still works.
I tried all the steps in this document, including updating iTunes and restarting my mac. I know the USB works because the iPod charges.

Update: I disconnected the mini for a while and just now tried re-connecting it. This time the ipod showed up in the menu after a minute or two. It still doesn't want to charge through the usb, but I can continue to use the wall port for that if I have to. Good news is I can now update my songs again =)

Looks like its fixed. I am syncing it now. A lot of the answers are for the new iphone so i had to mess with a bunch of settings as well. My old phone is now an 8 gig ipod. the books app no longer works and that *****.....but better than nothing...

Windows 7 64bit no longer recognizes my iPod as of iTunes 10

So as of 3 iTunes updates ago, which would be iTunes 10, my computer with windows 7 64bit no longer recognizes my iPod clickwheel, telling me the device has malfunctioned.. which it hasn't it works just fine with my windows XP pro machine. I tried updating the ipod's drivers and that didn't work, since the drivers are up to date for it.

Looks like the USB Driver is gone. Windows doesn't seem to recognize the iPod touch.
