If you have a Change option that may lead to Uninstall as one of the choices. See also note 2 of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

We've made some progress with some of those in recent days, Stop. It looks like (with some of them), the trouble is caused by trouble with the HKEYCURRENTUSER registry keys associated with your usual XP user account.
If that's what is afoot, the following technique may be of some assistance.
Head into your User Accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. Log out of your normal account and log into the new account. (Don't use fast user switching to move between accounts.)
Inside the new account, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, and attempt to uninstall AMDS from there.
Does the uninstall go through without the fatal error in the new user account?
If so, *staying in the new user account,* do a complete uninstall of iTunes and related componentry as per:
[Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925]
(You'll need, in particular, to do the reinstall of iTunes from inside the new account. Experience of the last two cases of this indicates that if you try the reinstall from inside the usual user account, AMDS just silently fails to install.)
If everything seems to have reinstalled correctly, log out of the new account, and log back into your usual account. Try launching iTunes in your usual account. Does it launch properly in there now?

First try a repair install of Apple Mobile Device Support. If that goes through successfully, see if you can now uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
If the Repair install doesn't help, try using the fixit from the following Microsoft document to remove Apple Mobile Device Support:

Trying to repair a botched ITunes update, following dicrections, keep getting "fatal error" when removing Apple Mobile Device Support. Can't get past this step to reinstall. Any advice? Thanks!

    Hey there!
I've spent the best part of the day unpicking this huge mess from the upgrade I completed last night - what a nightmare. I followed a tonne of advice - [actaully, this link was really helpful to me]: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/msvcr80-dll-not-found-missing -error.htm however, I still could not fix the **** thing - and that was following basically a day of uninstalling, installing etc.
In the end - I completed a system restore taking my computer back about five days, and just ignoring the new upgrade with itunes until they can get this fixed.
I hope that this might work for you and anyone else reading this. It nearly drove me to drink [!]. I seemed to get past one error message and have it replaced by another - so the system restore was basically the last resort.
    Good luck - !

  • HT1923 I can not remove Apple mobile devices support although I follow the sequence?

While updating itunes I got an error message for "C runtime". After several atempts I decided to remove the itune and reinstall it, but the component " Apple mobile Devices support" did not uninstall ? I can not install itunes. What can be done?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Can't remove apple mobile device support. need to for update?

Every time I plug in my iPhone (3GS or my wife's 4) or my iPad2 I get a message telling me to update Apple mobile devise support and to do so I need to uninstall it and iTunes and reinstall.
Windows won't uninstall AMDS. (windows vista)
It will uninstall everytihng else but AMDS give me a rolling back actions and failed to uninstall due to "fatal errors durring installation".
Is there a way I can get around this to update it? Or do I have to fix these errors and get it uninstalled?
only started happening since most recent update of iTunes and iOS 6 on both phones and iPad.  iPod classic still plugs in and syncs fine.

Well, after some virus scanning, spybot destroying, and trying to make a new windows user to remove it: still no progress.
next on the list is cleaning registry and disk defrag (even though I don't think it will help).
Very much open to any suggestions so I don't have to actually take my system somewhere and have to pay someone  to fix such a silly thing.
Don't know why it doesn't just update itself when iTunes does....

  • Uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support

For the past couple of months I have been unable to install updates to iTunes getting error messages everytime. Normally I have just cancelled out the update. Today I tried to finish an update, even trying to install manually, and downloading from the webiste and installing from there. Nothing has worked and i always get error messages and even seemed to have lost iTunes somewhere.
I found the article "removing and reinstalling..." and have been trying to follow that procedure to see if a complete and clean installation would work. The first step is removing the various sofware componesnt, with step 4 being to removed Apple Mobile Device Support. Using uninstall in the control panel i have tried to uninstall AMDS three times but it continues to show.
Since it says not to restart until you have uninstalled all 6 components, i have not done a restart. I stopped the procedure mid-stream hoping to get some suggestions.
    Windows 7 64b, PC.

Did you ever figure this out? I am having the same F-n problem.
    Thanks!

  • TS5376 Apple Mobile Device Support Utility

I could not remove or repair this.  In desperation, I restarted box before attempting to remove Bonjour.  Restarting worked and I was able to remove Apple Mobile Device Support and proceed (successfully).

The "for older video cards" version will probably work for you judging from other threads I've been involved in.
You can try a full tear down and then use the individual .msi files as you have done before. Did you get iTunes 12.1 installed before trying 12.1.1? These last two builds are the first full 64-bit versions of iTunes, previous 64-bit releases (including 12.0) have been 64-bit installers for mainly 32-bit code, particularly the main executable. The "for older video cards" version is similar to previous releases which may be why it works when the other versions won't.
Or you could try logging the installation to see if you can spot any errors that you can correct. Install AppleApplicationSupport.msi and, if relevant, AppleApplicationSupport64.msi first. The following commands log the install of AMDS for 32-bit, 64-bit or the new iTunes6464setup.exe versions. They assume the .msi is at the root of drive C though you could edit accordingly. If you want to type out the command the option switch in the middle is slash el star vee for verbose logging.
    msiexec /i C:\AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi /l*v %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\Log_AMDS.txt
    msiexec /i C:\AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi /l*v %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\Log_AMDS64.txt
    msiexec /i C:\AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi /l*v %USERPROFILE%\Desktop\Log_AMDS6464.txt
You can triple-click a line to select all of it, then press Ctrl+C to copy, switch to the command box and click the icon at the top left of the window to access the paste menu.
The log files might provide further clues as to what is going wrong. I suggest using Notepad++ to review the logs. Look for words like "failed" in the log.

  • HT1925 when trying to uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support the bar goes full and then depletes again and AMDS isn't removed. Any help?

Yesterday I had to update my iTunes, but there was a problem. I don't remember the problem exactly, but it was something along the lines of a certain file not being there or something. Then today I wanted to open iTunes to listen to something and it wouldn't open, so I decided to try and reinstall it. I was able to uninstall everything except for the Apple Mobile Device Support. With that one the bar fills and then when it's almost done it depletes again. Now I'm stuck with not being to install iTunes or do anything there and when trying to download iTunes again it gives me the option to save iTunesSetup.exe but then nothing is saved or downloaded.

Adding to the above, there seems to be something odd about the way the download is triggered on the iTunes download page. Firefox in particular doesn't seem to like it. Try clearing your browser's cache, changing pop-up blocker settings, using an alternate browser. or these direct links:
    iTunesSetup.exe (32-bit)
    iTunes64Setup .exe (64-bit)
I got the links by intercepting the download requests from Softpedia's iTunes page. If they don't work try going there. The files themselves are hosted at apple.com.
