HT1925 Will I lose my music library when I am required to "uninstall" I-tunes ?

Why do I have to "uninstall" I-tunes for it to open? Will I lose my music library when required to do this?

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters.)

    Hi texasslagle,
It sounds like you are having issues installing iTunes on your Windows 7 PC, a frustrating situation I am sure.
There is an article that you may want to use to try to complete your install here -

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Will I lose my music if iTunes says its corrupt to uninstall then reinstall

Will I lose my music if my iTunes is corrupt and needs to be uninstall and then reinstalled

    Hi Amylu6274,
If you need to remove and reinstall iTunes on your Windows machine, you may find the following article useful:
Apple Support: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
iTunes Store purchases or songs imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default and are not deleted by removing iTunes. While it is highly unlikely that you will lose any contents of your iTunes Library when following these steps, it is always a good idea to ensure that your iTunes library is backed up. If you're unsure how to backup, see iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.

  • If I uninstall iTunes and reinstall it, will I lose my music files?

    Hi
My Ipod touch (2nd Gen) is not being recognised in itunes. I have gone through the ipod touch assistant, and this has made no difference.
Next try is to uninstall itunes and re-install it. However...will I lose my music library when I do this?
I am also having problems with my external back-up drive which has now stopped me opening it up (I have had it for a year), as it says "I don't have permission to see it's contents" and "files can't be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be "read-only" - so I am loathe to uninstall itunes if I lose all my music etc....
    Thanks for your help
    Simon

You will not lose any music..
However, you do have a current backup of the iTunes folder and all other important info on your hard drive, correct?

Itunes weill no longer open. If I uninstall and re-install itunes will I lose the music from the itunes library?

    Hello,
All of your content is stored outside of iTunes in the event that the program needs to be removed or reinstalled. Take a look at the article below for instructions on how to properly remove and reinstall iTunes.

These steps may take a significant amount of time to complete, depending on your system.

  • HT4913 If the music library on my iPhone will be deleted when I enable iTunes Match, does that mean that I will not be able to access that music library when I temporarily turn off iTunes Match on the iPhone, e.g., when on the subway & can't connect to Ma

I have subscribed to iTunes Match and have employed it to listen to music on my Macbook Air and iMac.  On these devices it seems to operate by streaming music to the device rather than deleting the device's current iTunes library and downloading songs as they are played from iTunes Match. Not so on the iPhone as far as I can tell. Consequently, to date I have not activated iTunes Match on my iPhone 4S.  I presently have 40-50GB's of music on my iPhone, sync'd from my iTunes music library on my Macbook Air.  I am concerned that if I enable iTunes Match on my iPhone I will lose the music library already on my iPhone, as Apple seems to be representing that once iTunes Match is enabled on the iPhone the current music library, carefully compiled, will be gone from the iPhone forever (unless I later re-sync it from the iTunes library on my laptop), that it will be deleted.  Although this would free up a lot of space on my iPhone, I bought the 64GB phone just so that I could keep a lot of music on it and accessible at all times.  I am concerned that in certain instances, say if I am in the subway and want to listen to music on my iPhone but  don't have internet access below ground, that I won't have much music to listen to, only those songs previously played and thus downloaded onto the phone from iMatch, presenting me witrh a rather limited choice of music to play instead of the 40-50GB's I now have to choose from. Apple seems to have presented me with the choice of the lesser of 2 evils: i) enable iTunes Match and lose the music library already on the iPhone in exchange for access to iTunes Match and a greater number of songs than I can fit onto the phone (my library exceeds the phone's capacity) when a Cloud connection is available or ii) don't enable iTunes match and limit myself to only those songs, a considerable portion of my library to be sure but not all of it, that I can fit in the phone's storage space, i.e., the 40-50 GB's I have on there now.  If I choose the latter course, each time I purchase an album I'll have to delete another album to make room for it on the phone.  Apple thus offers me a sort of Hobson's choice, bad all the way around.  Do I have this right? The Apple techs I've spoken to don't seem to have a handle on the "deletion" aspect of enabling iTunes Match on the iPhone.   Right now, I'm too scared of "losing" my iPhone music library to enable iTunes Match on the iPhone. [Possible work-around, albeit a pain in the ***: I suppose that I can enable iTunes Match on the iPhone and spend the next couple of weeks 24/7 downloading songs from my iTunes Match library back onto the phone to replace at least some of those deleted when Match was enabled, thereby rebuilding a proxy library on the phone itself to play when I'm stuck in a tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan while maintaining access to thee larger iTunes Match library, more music than my phone will hold, once we come back into the light and my Cloud connection is restored.] Comments, suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a few thousand songs in my itunes music library, when i connect my ipad that has only 50 songs on it will it overwrite the songs in my itunes library

I had previously syncd the ipad and the songs on it, then loaded songs from an old ipod into the itunes account (using irip) and now the ipad songs that were in the itunes account are gone.  Can I change the auto sync settings before reconnecting the ipad again as to not lose the songs from my old ipod.

  • ITunes will not open my music CDs when I place them in the DVD drive. I am using Win 7 and latest download of iTunes. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with AV software turned off. No luck. Cannot upload my music CDs to iTunes library. Any ideas?

Using Win 7 and latest download of iTunes, the software will not recognize my music CDs when inserted in my DVD drive. I put a CD in the drive and nothing happens. iTunes does not have a "start" button, or some menu option to tell it to begin copying music to the library, so it just sits there. When I first installed iTunes, it would open the CDs, but I would get an error message after the first track started to transfer. Now, after a coupel uninstalls, disc cleanup, etc., nothing happens when I insert the CD. I am lost here and about to sell my new Ipod Classic because it is useless to me. Maybe I'm just too old to own something like this? Any (serious) suggestions would be appreciated.

In iTunes, do Store->View my AppleID
    Click "Deuthorize ALL"
Then, on any computers you still have, do Store->Authorize this computer.  If there are less than 5, you will have no problem.
You can only do "deauthorize all" once a year, so in the future, if you ever throw a computer away, remember do to "Store->Deauthorize this computer" first.

  • When I sync my ringtones I lose my music - and when I sync my music I lose my ringtones??

When I sync my (purchased) ringtones to my I-phone I lose my music and when I sync my music to my Iphone I lose the ringtones????????

Were these ringtones purchased from the iTunes Store?
If so and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
This will transfer all content purchased from the iTunes Store that is available on your iPhone, and this should include ringtones purchased from the iTunes Store. This will create duplicates in your iTunes library of songs purchased from the iTunes Store, and the same for any video, but the duplicates can be deleted from your iTunes library.

  • Will I lose my music if I uninstall my itunes

My itunes says it's corrupt or not working properly I keep trying to download itunes all over but I'm worried if I uninstall my itunes will I lose the music I have.

No, keep your library and you'll be fine. Just go to Control Panel > Uninstall a program
Uninstall everything with Apple, then reinstall the latest version. When you open it, you should see your original music files from your library.

  • HT1296 If I have never connected my iPad to my computer, will I lose events in iCal when I sync things?

If I have never connected my iPad to my computer, will I lose events in iCal when I sync things?

Since you have never plugged the iPad into your computer's iTunes yet - you are syncing to a "new" computer so .... Yes you will lose the music if you sync it with iTunes before making this your syncing computer.
But ..... You can transfer all of the iPad content into iTunes and that will make the iTunes library your new syncing library. Just follow all of the steps in this user tip and you will be OK. Then you will be able sync without losing anything.

  • TS1717 how to restore my itunes music library when an apple download stuffs up

how to restore my itunes music library when an apple download malfunctions

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
