Attempting to update itunes, received system error" Program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from computer, try reinstalling the program to fix the problem. Question, I can't access Itunes to backup library, how do I reinstall without loosing music library?
It doesn't matter and doing a manual install will not fix the problem either. I'm looking for a solution but no luck yet. I think Apple has given us a bad update.

This occurred immediately upon completion of install. I really don't understand since I once used itunes with this very same operating system and was able to make purchases and roam about in the store. I have purchases that I've not yet moved to my devices and now can't move about. Should it be this difficult to use itunes?
This procedure might work or might not work:
Download the free Ccleaner and repair your Registry (repeat until clear)
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
Uninstall iTunes according to Apple's directions here
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
Use Ccleaner and repair your Registry again just in case.
Then download/install iTunes again from the Apple website
http://www.apple.com/itunes/
Your iTunes content will not be removed,
Please regularly backup your iTunes content to external medium (hard drive, cd/dvd's) using the File>Backup Library in iTunes. Apple will not reissue new copies of content.
(Notice: this post is a copy/paste in a hope that a uninstall/reinstall and repair of your Registry may solve your particular issue, Windows issues are particular difficult to resolve due to multiple factors, so my advice is to be taken into advisement with others recommendations which may be more specific or experienced in resolving your issue. If it or others recommendations solve your issue, please respond back with a "Correct" or "Helpful" or not resolved responses so we can further refine our efforts in trying to successfully assist others. I ran an iTunes update. It failed with the message "System Error. The program can't start because MSVCR80.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." I tried reinstalling but get the same message. I looked in my Recycle Bin for that file name but there is none there. Is this a new file that iTunes wants?
Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Hi, I hope some one can help as I updated my version of iTunes and now get the error "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer". I understand that I need to delete and reinstall iTunes but all of my music has been uploaded from CD's and I'd like to know if these are safe if I delete iTunes of if they too will be deleted. I have over 1300 songs so this is a big question for me. Many thanks.
Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)
First try updating to iTunes 11.1.5.5, using an installer downloaded from the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you still get the errors after that, try the following user tip:

Can't download itunes update. Keep getting this error message: THe program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem
I researched the advice on the link provided by b noir as well as very similar advice from apple support: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376. It worked for me (for now).
Some things of note:
I did all of the things requested by the link I provided
My computer WOULD NOT uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support. I had to manually remove the folder (also as instructed by the url)
I also uninstalled MobileMe. Was a little different than removing the other apps. Follow instructs provided here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2992
I did not uninstall iCloud
I have to admit it was a bit scary removing all those things. Is important to note that when re-installing Apple, follow steps to do so as Administrator (the right-click thingy and whatnot).
Hope this helps! -
On iTunes there Ida. System error stating that the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from my computer.
I'm assuming you're running on windows 7? Tons of people have been having this issue.
This should fix it. Good luck:)
iTunes for Windows: Missing MSVCR80.dll -
The Program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer.
Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

I am having trouble reinstalling my Itunes on my desktop which uses Windows 7 and I can download it but once it's complete i keep getting this error message...The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem. Please help me.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP
HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

After downloading the new Itunes update, my compter now shows error: "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer". I follwed the Apple fix / steps but it did not correct it. Also, after the update my disk drive is not recognized on my computer. If I load a CD, I cannot even access it.
See also Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes (similar to the advice above) and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies. E.g. TS2308: iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I was told to update iTunes. I did and it failed. Then every time I tried to open iTunes I get the following message: "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Then I get the following: "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (windows error 126)." I have uninstalled and installed iTunes a couple of times with no luck. I cannot even access iTunes support
