I need help upgrading Itunes.I keep getting an error message that says
Mobile device failed to start check for sufficient privileges.I am running windows 8Same here - did the latest iTunes update and boy am I glad I did that; haven't been able to run iTunes since. Question: on trying to install iTunes got the following message: "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. I am this computer's administrator. What should I do now?

Trying to update my iTunes but keep getting the error message "the URL could not be opened" what does this mean and how do I resolve this? It's always worked fine in the past!
Select a broken track and press ctrl-i to Get Info. Look on the summary tab for the location where iTunes "thinks" the file should be. Where is it really? Post back the two locations and I can suggest the best approach.

What should I do?Hey CarleneS,
First, I would try the steps in here:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
If you end up having to remove and reinstall iTunes, make sure you follow all of the steps in this link:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
This section contains information that might help your situation, as the order and manner which you uninstall has an effect on the outcome:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.

When I try to install iTunes onto my new computer, it says "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that this package exists and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to verify to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package." When I try to play some of the songs in my itunes library, I get a prompt saying the file cannot be used. When I hit the locate button, the file cannot be found. I didn't delete any songs/files and there is no common link between the missing songs.

Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates -
I am unable to install iTunes on Widows 7. I get this Error Message during installation: There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
What now please? For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I did as Apple suggested and went into my services page and stopped the Apple Mobile Device service. Once it stopped I started it again. I then went through the downloading of iTunes process again, and I got the same error. I have McAfee and Webroot Security, and I am operating on Windows 7. What should I do?
So many people are having this problem! Doehunter's instructions here worked for me! Hope this helps. https://discussions.apple.com/message/23824640#23824640

I have an old version of iTunes and require the new version to connect my IPod. A program can not be run and the installation stops. I have no idea what program or what is required to run it. Please Help.
That would be my first guess. You might be trying to install the 32 bit version of the program.
Update the thread with more info on your apple software etc if its a 64 bit install you're trying to perform.
