I have an ipod touch and recently performed the latest updates of itunes. It said there were problems with my ipod and it need to be restored. I did that and now it says it's in recovery mode and that I need to restore it. It takes 45 minutes and I've tried it several times and keep getting same message. My ipod is now unusable and it has a photo of a plug with an itunes icon telling me to plug it in. It is plugged in??? I restarted the computer, tried another computer, reset my ipod and nothing. Help!

I've also noticed that in the start menu when I click on iTunes, it says '(empty)' where it should have the logo and ability to start the program, does this mean it doesn't download + install properly each time I've tried? Any help would be enormously appreciated.

Unfortunately, I do not have a solution to this problem; however, I am experiencing the same thing. However, my iPod Touch is new. Is your problem with streaming audio broadcasts to and are you outside the UK ?
If so you may have fallen prey to the BBC's Content Distribution Network which often seems to produce problems they keep re-issuing advice such as:

First, make sure your iTunes does not attempt to sync automatically. Open iTunes, and select Preferences under the iTunes menu item:
Then, once you have hooked up your device and selected it, you should see the device Profile pages to the right. Select the Music tab:
Once you get to the Music detail screen, you will see the option to "Sync Music". You can then select "Sync Entire Music Library" or you can select "Sync Selected Playlists, Artists, Albums, Genres". Click on the second one. Then, below, you can select which of your music from the library you want on your device:
Your will show a list of your music. Mine doesn't because I sync with an iTunes library on different computer, but once you have selected the options I have shown you, you will see the music listed. Just pick what you want on your device and then click "Sync" at the bottom.

Ipod touch froze when updating to itunes

my ipod is frozen after trying to update to itunes. stated that it couldnt be updated then stayed frozen. i cant get it to turn off or for my computer or my itunes to recognize it

For some reason, my iPod won't sync with iTunes. I'm not sure what has the problem but iTunes is saying I don't have the right driver disk or anything and it will sync for hours on end, not working.

If that Article does not resolve it... then you have a problem.
Perhaps a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is required..

I have an iPod Touch 8gb model MC540LL and it will not update. My iTunes program is 10.6 but every time I attempt to download and update the iPod I get the same message "The network connection could not be established." 1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
- You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
- If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
- Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
- There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.
- Apple will do nothing without a court order
