HT1926 iTunes + QuickTime = Problem!

I just re installed Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a new hard drive on my late 08 MBP. I didn't copy a backup, I just installed it new. The problem I have is that every time I try to open iTunes, I am told that I "need QuickTime 7.5.5". When I run "Software Update" to update quicktime, it tells me there are no updates. No matter how many times I try to uninstall and reinstall iTunes y get the same message and I can't uninstall or install quicktime. This *****. Please help.

I browsed trough the "old" QT versions but I didn't really know which one to download.
Yeah, there's quite a bunch of them. (I keep forgetting which is the latest version for a particular Mac OS, and have to keep going back to my earlier posts to check.) Glad you got things sorted out.

ITunes/Quicktime Problem

I'll start by saying my problem is similar to this one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=498798 with a few differences.
I'm running Windows XP Pro. After updating to the lastest version of iTunes, I can no longer open it. Whenever I try I get that Windows Send/Don't Send error. Quicktime won't open either but I get no error message.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. I've tried reinstalling the standalone version of Quicktime, but after it finishes and I click 'Finish', I get this error message:
Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimePostInstallProc
Setup will now terminate.
If I try to uninstall Quicktime by going through the start menu a 'Setup is preparing to uninstall' box appears, loads about half way, then closes and nothing else happens. No error message. Quicktime doesn't even appear in my Add/Remove programs list.
I've also tried deleting the iTunes configuration file suggestion from Apple.
I've been working on this for a while now with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the problem is a conflict on x64 versions of Windows (and at least some 32-bit versions of Server 2003) between your QuickTime Player and Windows Update KB908531.

ITunes/Quicktime problem "The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed"

Whenever I try installing iTunes 7, I get the message "The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed." A similar problem with the same wording similarly cropped when I downloaded iTunes 6.
Source of the problem is a failed System Restore which left files corrupted and such, I've tried using ccCleaner to remove iTunes and Quicktime from the registry but it simply isn't there, as is the case when I use regedit in Run.
Add/Remove Programs doesn't work as well, when I click on uninstall for iTunes/iPod/Quicktime there just isn't any response or window that pops up

Resolved my ITUNES/QUICKTIME problems easily

getting a QuickTime error message concerning the .cab file ERROR 2350, when attempting to upgrade to Itunes 7.
I was using MOZILLA to dowload software.
After hours of NO SUCCESS I opened up IE, downloaded yet again and it worked.
Interesting to know how many problems were browser related.

In the meantime I will try opening Internet Explorer (it is my program file) and download from there as you suggested.

Itunes + quicktime problem - The program has stopped !

Ok , one day i went onto itunes and it said that my quicktime needed updated and itunes told me to resintall itunes and quicktime , SO it did!
When reinstalling it went fine.
When opening itunes or quicktime i was greated with .... This program has stopped working - close this program.
After uninstalling it , removing all traces , registry and installing it around 5 times i gave up and now am asking you what can i do!

ITunes/Quicktime problems

I'm having major problems with both iTunes and Quicktime. The other day, I was transferring CDs to iTunes, when the program froze and I ended up having to reboot. At that point, I double clicked on the iTunes icon and nothing happened. When I hit CtrlAltDel, it tells me that iTunes.exe is running, but nothing shows up on my screen. Along with that, if I double click on Quicktime now, a window pops up telling me that I have to be at least running Windows 2000 and to check the compatability tab. I've never had problems like this before. I unintalled and reinstalled both programs three times and still have the same problem. At one point, it even screwed up my sound card so I ended up having to reinstall the drivers. Could someone please give me some suggestion as to what the problem is and what can be done.

Thanks for the advice, but I should have stated that the compatability is turned off. When I checked the tab, nothing was selected. I'm wondering if the problem might be because I didn't turn off my firewall and anti-virus program before doing the installation. I can't imagine that being a problem, though, since I've never turned off those programs before.

Hi, I bought a new Ipod and I already had Itunes installed ( it was working the day before) but as soon as I plugged this one in, my Itunes said it was not " correctly installed, please uninstall, and install again" so I've been doing it for the past few hours. The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. ... This is a dialog error message offering me the opportunity to browse to the location of a quicktime.msi file.
Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

I am receiving the same error, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." Thought I found the answer in your replies above. However, I cannot find the "Apple Software Update" program either from Start -> All Programs or the Control Panel. I am running Windows XP, Service Pack 3. I would appreciate any additional guidance you have.

The iTunes update did not install properly. Now I am unable to use iTunes on that computer at all. This is where my library is stored.
I have read that I shoud remove anything ITunes from my computer.
I am reluctant to remove iTunes from my computer as I have a huge library. Can I be assured this will be safe?

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

After Update ITUNES Won't Open, Apparent Quicktime Problem, PLEASE HELP

I Have recently updated my Itunes, after installation of the updates I was unable to access itunes due to a problem with Quicktime. After trying to repair quicktime, with no luck, I have uninstalled (following Apple’s support system). There were two programs labelled “Apple Application Support”, one allowed me to delete and the other older one didn’t delete and came up with the prompts below, so I just installed itunes/quicktime again. The same response happened when trying to open itunes. So I followed Apple’s support system and deleted all I could again. What was left is below, any help would be extremely useful.
In “Uninstall or Change a Program” of windows 7, I was unable to delete Version 1.1.0 which is 32.3 MB installed on the 03/03/2010 of the Apple Application Support.
*When deleting it comes up with a box that says:*

This kind of problem often responds to using the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility. Here is a method:
== uninstall with cleanup ==
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)

Save the files on your PC.
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.

Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:

*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.

Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

Problem installing iTunes + QuickTime

So, I uninstalled QuickTime (last week) and then installed QuickTime Alternative, because it's smaller in size and I don't use QuickTime at all. That's probably what's caused my problem, and here it is.
So today I double clicked on the iTunes shortcut and I got a pop-up saying 'iTunes needs QuickTime in order to run. Please uninstall & install iTunes + QuickTime'-or something like that. So I uninstalled iTunes but now I can't install it. It freezes during the installation at 'Copying New Files'. What do I do?

let's try enlisting some additional technical help with this one.
let's try getting a installer log to someone who can interpret installer logs.
Start menu -> Run... In the text field of the dialog that comes up, type in "cmd" and hit return.
In the command prompt dialog that comes up, find the iTunes installer on your desktop and drag it to this window. Then on the same line type in a space and then the following:
/Verbose"c:\log.txt" /V"ENABLE_QTLOGGING=TRUE"
There is no space between the e in Verbose and the double quote ("). There is no space between the V"Enable...
Hit return.
The installer will create two log files:
C:\log.txt and C:\qt.log
Find those files and send them to this email address Put the URL to this discussion thread into the email, so that the person who gets it has some context. Let them know the version of itunes you’re trying to install, too … in general, give as much info as you can.

*Problems uninstalling itunes/quicktime after using windows install cleanup

I was having problems installing itunes/quicktime 7.6. Everytime I tried to install it it would say that it does not have a valid digital signiture. So one of the suggestions I saw on this forum was to install windows install cleanup and use it on itunes and quicktime. So I did but all it did is mess up my old itunes/quicktime. Now when I go to try and uninstall itunes and quicktime from the add and remove programs in the control pannel it does not even show itunes or quicktime in my program list. Any suggestions??

Ok, Update. I was able to remove itunes and quicktime manually after going into my windows task manager and to the processes tab and ended all processes involving itunes, apple, or quicktime. So now when I install itunes/quicktimes via apples site when it gets to the end it just disapears and nothing happens. I searched to see if it installed anything and it didn't, didn't even give me any reasons why. Can anyone help me with this?? It would help me a ton!
