HT1926 ITunes update failure

Hello, I've been using ITunes on our home desktop for 4-5yrs or more and ran into a problem yesterday from a routine ITunes update download.  The operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium.  A pop up message states that the download was unsuccessfull, that it's missing a .dll file (MSVCR80.dll).  ITunes will not launch now and I'm concerned about getting the program updated and going again.  I tried resetting Windows to a previous recent date (1/31) but it didn't fix the problem.  If I download the whole ITunes program from the Apple website, will I lose the library of music I've collected?   Do I have to uninstall the old before downloading the new?  Thank you.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page).
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Here's a screenshot showing the particular links on the page that you should be clicking:
After clicking one of the circled links, you should be taken to another page, and after a few seconds you should see a download dialog appear for the msicuu2.exe file. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like for me in Firefox:
Choose to Save the file. If the dialog box does not appear for you, click the link on the page that says "CLICK HERE IF IT DOES NOT". Here's a screenshot of the page with the relevant link circled:
When the dialog appears, choose to save the file.
    (2) Go to the Downloads area for your Web browser. Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • HT1926 Routine update of iTunes failed. Eventually had to uninstall and reinstall iTunes x2. Installation failed with message 'Service Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

    Hi,
When I tried to install iTunes update this failed, then tried to uninstall and reinstall itunes twice. Failed again. Could not open iTunes. I use an HP PC. Even tried to disable Macafee firewall, still itunes failed to install. Please help!!

Followed these instructions with a few changes. (Windows 7 x64)
Uninstalled programs in the following order:
    - Itunes
    - Apple Application Support
    - Apple Software Update
    - Bonjour
    - Apple Mobile Device Support (uninstall failed due to Apple Mobile Device failure)***
    - Restarted System
    - Redownloaded Itunes from website.
    - Run installer as Administratot
    - Succefully installed
***To uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support
    - Right clicked on Apple Mobile Device Support, Clicked Charge (second option), Repair, Next (failed to repari)
    - Right clicked the Apple Mobile Device Support in the Programs and Features window and clicked Repair (third option in drop down list). (repaired successfully)
    - Uninstall successful after the repair.
Below is a guess at a quicker solution:
Looking at the uninstalls, it may be worth trying to repair the Apple Mobile Device Support through the Program and Features window before trying to uninstall everything.  It may be a faster fix for the freezing service.  After the repair is successful the itunes update may work.
    Hope this helps.

  • Repeated failures trying to download iTunes update 10.5.1.42 for WinXP

I have failed 4-times trying to download iTunes update 10.5.1.42 for WinXp. What is causing the installer failure? I have maintained the Windows XP system files and Windows Installer, along with iTunes versions until now.  The install process message says "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE Windows Installer Package. A PROGRAM RUN AS PART OF THE SETUP DID NOT FINISH AS EXPECTED. CONTACT YOUR SUPPORT PERSONNEL OR PACKAGE VENDOR."
This is the first time I have had a problem updating iTunes on my XP desktop.

After reviewing other Download related problems, one reply suggested using the REPAIR feature from Window Control Panel, list of Software Installed.  I repaired 3 Apple software files and iTunes main file. Took about 10-12 minutes. Then reran "Check for updates" from iTunes/Help menu. Surprised to find 1 program listed that didn't popup "before" I repaired the Apple files.  New version of APPLE SOFTWARE UPDATE 2.1.3.127.  Tryed to install but it hung up/stalled. Then tried again only used the DOWNLOAD option instead of install option. Then Manually "Ran" that file from my Apple/Apple Software Update folder.  filenamed "APPLESOFTWAREUPDATE, type "Windows Installer Package" from Apple. It worked!!
Then Checked for updates from iTunes/Help, surprised to see (4) new files available. Safari 5.1.1; Mobile Control Panel 1.6.7; iTunes 10.5.1.42; and Quicktime 7.7.1. Installed all 4 and now iTunes 10.5+ runs great and my iCloud works, letting me catch up Downloads from the Apple/iTunes servers.
What a pain in the @$#!!!! and it only took 2.5 hours to get it all figured out with 6 total attempts to update to iTunes 10.5.1.42.
    Ready for double Scotch rocks.....

  • ITunes update interrupted by power failure - now can't install

Gateway computer running Windows 7.  I've run iTunes without issue for years.  I had the bad luck of having an iTunes update interrupted by a power failure.  I got error 193 when trying to run it afterwards.  During subsequent attempts to reinstall, I also get error 7 (Apple Mobile Device Service failed to start).
Here's what I've tried so far:
    - uninstalled iTunes in the proper order according to Apple help docs, rebooted, attempted to reinstall.  Received error 7 twice during install, clicked to ignore both times.  Received error 193.
    - uninstalled again, searched for leftover files in various folders as spelled out by Apple doc.  Reboot/install.  Same problem.
    - uninstalled again. Searched for and found stray registry key related to iTunes.  Deleted it and attempted install.  Same problerm.
    - uninstalled again, and attempted to install as administrator (the login I'd been using the whole time was an admin login, but I was grasping at straws).  Reboot/install.  SAME PROBLEM.
I am beyond frustrated.  Why won't this install work?  What is the problem with the Apple Mobile Device Service?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)
If you still have issues with AMDS try the steps in Install missing components and/or review HT203188: How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows.

    Hey jeight26,
When you uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, did you use this article?
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
If you haven't already done these steps, this section contains information that might help your situation, as the order and manner which you uninstall has an effect on the outcome:
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
    Sincerely,

  • HT1926 I am trying to update my iTunes so I can sync my new iphone 5s and it doesn't recognize the phone, apple support said I need to update my iTunes when I try and do that I get an error message that says " the ITunes update server could not be contact

I am trying to update my iTunes so I can sync my new iphone 5s and it doesn't recognize the phone, apple support said I need to update my iTunes when I try and do that I get an error message that says " the ITunes update server could not be contacted. Please check your internet connection or try back later.
My internet works fine and I have tried back dozens of times with same result.

Did you ever figure out the problem? "Contact Software Manufacturer"?? That sounds ominous... I've got the same issue and I'm pretty durn aggravated right about now....
    Thanks!

  • HT1926 I installed the itunes update on my regular PC. The update failed and produced an error in MSVCR80.DLL I spoke to an apple tech about it. He blames Microsoft for the error. I did the same update on another PC and it produced the same error. Itunes

The iTunes update is causing a problem on PC's resulting in an error pointing to MSVRC80.DLL. I called Apple Support they blame Microsoft.....(What a surprise!).
I did a second update on another pc and it produced the same problem with the same DLL file. Apple still says it's not their problem. Unfortunately until they acknowledge the problem and correct it iTunes is no longer functional. That's too bad but Windows Media Player works fine.
Apple, own up to the problems you create. Don't pull an Obama!
When enough people have the problem it will force Apple to correct it. Everyone on a PC using iTunes who try the update will have this problem.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
