i am having trouble downloading i tunes a message informs me there is a virus in the program, any ideas?

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

Using disk utility repair disk is not available ( greyed out) and verify disk stops and says disc requires repairing. So the online support page suggests I erase the disc and reinstall then back up from time machine ( I have a recent backup). Whenever you install a new version of OS X being installed, the disk is checked just as if you were using Disk Utility checks the disk to see if the disk is damaged. And,, from what you report, your disk is damaged and needs to be replaced. This isn't a fault with Mavericks - your disk may have been failing for years.
It's a very good thing that you've a recent backup as you're going to need it. I would suggest that you evaluate what functionality that you need in a new disk and go shopping at OWC for a new drive - HGST (or any Hitachi), Seagate SSHDs or Toshiba drives are all good. Be sure that you buy an enclosure for the 'new' drive so that you can format it using Disk Utility before installing it into your machine - you can get one of those from OWC as well.

i am using office2007 with windows7 premium home edition. i have checked file associations., all DDE settings. i have even tried this in safe mode. the same thing happens. please note once i see the error. i can then go back to the file click on
it a second time and it WILL open. AND i can open any file if i open excel and and find the file from there. i uninstalled and re-installed office 2007 from scratch. And i checked the compatibility mode (all un-checked) still the problem persisits. this is
a real PITA. anyone have any solution for this? Thanks

Have you try to un-select the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) setting?
Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.
Click Advanced, and then click to clear the Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
check box in the General area.
Click OK.
If the problem cannot resolve, the Run as administrator may selected.
Go to Office default install location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12.
Right-click EXCEL.EXE > Properties >
Compatibility tab.
Under Privilege Level, uncheck Run this program as an administrator
check box.

BT have made some changes to their email services recently (http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44789/) so you may be having problems because of this. I was certainly having problems, although I don't think that they were exactly the same as yours, and resolved it by creating a new account called something new. If you haven't deleted any mail from the BT webmail, when you create a new account on your Mac, it will mirror everything on webmail as it is an IMAP account. Once you are happy that the new account is working properly and that you haven't lost any messages, you can delete the old account.

I connected my ipad and iphone to itunes this morning and downloaded updates...the iphone is fine..but my ipad is giving me the message...you have not signed up for a data plan..but, when it asks me to sign up..the message says Safari can't open the page because it isn't connected to the server...Mail isn't working either...help.

Try this:
1. Turn off iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, slide to turn off.
2. Connect USB cable to computer
3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
5. Release the Home button
6. Open iTune (make sure you have the newest version of iTune)
7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

yes it should be covered using 1 year warranty. You cant get refund unless you have some customer protection program. So call applecare, I dont know the number in the UK.

I have an HP Color Laserjet CM2320fxi MFP. The message is "document jam - open auto sheet feeder door and clear", but there is no paper. I have even disconnected the scanner unit and still getting the same message. Is this a software issue and can the machine be software reset? I have done the screen reset without success.
