HT1937 AT&T IMEI unlock

I bought my iPhone 4 on Sep-2010 from an Apple store at non-contract price of USD 699. I did not know at that point of time, there is actually no unlock iPhone 4 version sold in the US.
I requested to unlock the IMEI from AT&T but was rejected with a reply "The IMEI provided is not a valid AT&T IMEI" from AT&T. I have confirmed with Apple support that the serial and IMEI number is indeed an AT&T IMEI. Any other avenues or support I can get from Apple or AT&T to get my iPhone 4 unlocked?

It's done! And it was a breezer, just plug in Sim card, then connect to iTunes, it'll say it needs activation, just follow phone activation steps, I did it thru wifi and it was completed within seconds.
This shows preserverance paid off. Those guys at AT&T really s*cks. Imagine if I had just left it at such and had ended up paying for 3rd party unlocks.

Well if you got it unlocked through a webpage then it was not officially unlocked by your carrier and that is why you have the problems with the latest upgrade. You phone is locked to the earlier carrier and you will need to have them unlock it officially this time.

Yes, as long as you are out of contract (such as paying ECF to get out) then Rogers is now willing to IMEI unlock your iPhone for $50 admin fees. You just need to talk to the right representative as not all of them knows it.

Imei unlock

While imei unlock is the safest and permanent unlock, where does one go to get their phones unlocked this way?
Apple constantly redirect customers to their carriers but carriers often claim unaware of such unlock and refers customers to local unlocking dealers which does not provide permanent unlock!
Rogers and Fido are the main 'culprits' of this referral.
Can anyone, especially Apple, provide any insight to how one can get their iphones unlocked PERMANENTLY?

In my experience, unless you are talking to the CEO or chairman of the board, there is ALWAYS someone higher up you can insist your inquiry be redirected to - a supervisor, manager, VP. Anyone you call on tech support or talk to in the store has a boss above them.

My understanding is that a carrier must submit the unlock request through proper channels to Apple (with all necessary information), and then Apple initiates the unlock. You plug your device into iTunes, the unlock goes through, and you should see confirmation of the fact in iTunes. So the actual unlock is handled by Apple through iTunes, but the request must come from the carrier. By everything I can find on the web, Fido offers to unlock all of their devices - if the people you are speaking to say otherwise, insist on talking to their supervisor or boss, or go to a corp. store and ask to speak to the store manager.
No second party unlocking service could even do it - they don't have access to the apporpriate databases and information. Any such "service' is hacking phones, not formally/officially unlocking them.

unlock it. Online 'unlock' sites are a scam: either they do nothing
but take your money or they hack the iPhone, thereby voiding
your warranty and the iPhne gets re-locked on the next restore
or upgrade.

You can't do that. ONLY the carrier it's locked to can authorize unlocking it.
The only way for you to buy a $199 5s in the US is to sign a 2 year contract with a US carrier, which obligates you to paying that carrier for service for 2 years. The only way around that will be to pay an early termination fee which, when combined with the $199 for the phone, will end up costing more than if you'd just purchased an unlocked iPhone at full retail to begin with. Just buy an unlocked phone. Preferably, in India.
If you take a US iPhone to India, you will not be able to get it serviced there at all.

IMEI unlocked iphone4 ios6 update

I had iphone4 locked to AT&T. I had upgraded it to iOS5 and it was locked. Later apple did IMEI unlock it and I was able to use it again as phone.
Now iOS6 is released. I am thinking if I should update or not. I am fearing it might get locked again.
Pls advise.

Leave it as it is, till Apple have sorted it out. Not much interesting that works in 6, and a load of things that don't.

Contact the carrier to whom the device is locked. The carrier is the only one that can unlock the device.
FYI, posting personal information like serial and IMEI numbers in a public, worldwide forum is not smart.

IMEI unlock delay or handling error

Hi,
hoping to get some support here because I just can't find an answer anywhere else.
I am using my Iphone 3GS in Germany and need to unlock due to repeated business trips
out of country. My idea was to get a cheaper sim card from the country I will be working in.
I requested unlock of the IMEI from the service provider T-Mobile, which was no problem since the phone is 3 1/2 years old.
Now, I have followed the instructions by Itunes various times but still no unlocking has been possible.
T-Mobile told me that this is not them but Apple support who are taking their time with unlocking my phone.
Is this possible ? 5 days now and nothing has happened ? I was told that this generally takes up to 48 hrs.
How can I find out what is causing this delay or if my data was transfered to Apple at all ?
Am I doing something wrong in the process ?

Did you follow the instructions, connect the phone to iTunes on your computer with a cable, and click Restore iPhone (NOT Restore Backup...)?
When you do this at the completion of the process you should get a message that your phone is unlocked. If you do not get this message either the request was not processed by Apple yet, or your phone had been hacked or jailbroken before the Restore. An Authorized unlock will usually not work on a hacked phone, because the firmware has been changed and does not verify during the Restore.

ONLY the carrier to which it is locked can unlock it.
Contact Sprint and see if you qualify for them to unlock it. They will only unlock it for foreign carriers.

Usually, that error is for a phone that has never been used on the AT&T network, so AT&T does not have a record of the IMEI.

I bought an iPhone5s (T-Mobile Contract Free version) without activating the service at the Apple Store located at Houston, Texas. I was visiting the states from Taiwan and asked the sales associate helping me if I will be able to use the iPhone5s version that I bought internationally. The sales associate told me that I will be able to use the iPhone internationally. Going back to Taiwan, I opened the iPhone5s and was not able to use it because it says that the iPhone is locked and there's no service. The sales associate did not offer me the option of buying an unlocked version, but instead told me that the iPhone5s that I purchased would work. At this point, I do not know what to do, I was misinformed and I will not be able to go back to the states. Is there a possibility that the iPhone can be unlocked?
