HT1937 Unlock phone

I am trying to change carriers.  I have not been able to unlock my phone.  I contacted my carrier (AT&T) and I was told the IMEI number was not found.  How do I go about unlocking my phone so that I can change carriers.

Only the carrier that the phone is currently locked to can unlock a phone.  You'll have to contact them.  If ATT doesn't have a record of the imei number, then it must have been under some other carrier.  Where did you buy the phone?
