HT1937 Will a factory unlocked iPhone 5 A1429-GSM work in S Korea & USA?

According to Apple, the model A1429 (GSM) is the one for South Korea- LTE bands 1 (2100 MHz), 3 (1800 MHz) and 5 (850 MHz).
When I return to the US in 2014 will I be able to use it on Verizon and sprint's network? I noticed that the LTE band 1, 3 and 5 are also supported by those two US carriers. However, those two carriers use a different platform/technology (CDMA).
I am positive that the A1429 GSM will use a nano sim card. What about the CDMA? Please clarify.
I am contract free as of yesterday and able to go with either of the carriers and be able to factory unlock it before my departure in January 2013. However, the hardware must work in Korea and in the US.
Another option that I am considering is a factory unlocked iPhone 4S, but I cant find a 32GB. I am very reluctant with this option as I am afraid that when I return to the US (Jan 2014) things will drastically change and I wont be able to enjoy the new advancements in the mobile tech world because I have a hardware that wont handle them.

IF your iPhone was officially unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to, then yes, it should remain unlocked forever at that point and a restore or upgrade will not alter the unlock.
However, if your phone was hacked to make it function as if it had been unlocked, then it will almost certainly relock to the original carrier when restored or upgraded (assuming it does not simply brick itself from the restore or upgrade, which is also a possability).

If it is truly unlocked, just sign up for a plan with AT&T when you get to the US and insert the MicroSIM. AT&T will not permit pre-paid plans on iPhones. T-Mobile will, but they are not a supported carrier and you will not get 3G data speeds, only Edge. Other features may not work correctly such as MMS messaging, FaceTime, etc.

The Apple (Republic of Ireland) online store has the unlocked Iphones 4, 4S and 5 for sale. They are dear but worth it. I ordered the unlocked I phone 5 last week. That said, retail Apple Stores do and will not carry the Iphone line instore. They do however sell some accessories for all Iphones but thats as far as the Irish retail stores go.
Its obvious to me that the Apple sales strategy for the US is different to the Irish one, so your retail stores may carry the unlocked versions at some point in the future.

No. You'll need to get a SIM from your carrier. Since you won't have a SIM, there will be no way to activate the iPhone at the store, so you'll have to do it yourself.

and i mean the phone would have been activated in the first place with the sim card you get given when you first get the phone.
trying to activate the phone with another sim card that you did not get when you brought the phone may result in you not being able to activate it

You heard wrong. IF the device is officially unlocked by Apple, it will not be relocked. IF it was hacked to be unlocked, upgrading iOS WILL relock the device to the original carrier.

In my personal opinion the 4s is not much different than the 4! I am using both.
The major difference is the camera but the rest including the faster processor still feels the same!!
Anytime now the jailbreak is gonna come out and u will most likely be able to use Siri on the 4 too!!
But no doubt the 4s is a sweet phone!!
I got the 64gb AT&T contract free and it worked perfectly fine in India since the day one!!
Siri works smoothly and is quite helpful... Thou its kinda difficult for her to understand Indian names..
Apart from that no settings were changed.. It worked straight out of the box!
If u can't live without it then buy the 4s but if ur not so much of a ifreak then the original 4 is not a bad bet either!!

Yes, thank you for your reply. It seems like that make be the case. The phone was my first ever ebay purchase. Should have just bought the unrestricted phone directly from apple. The thing is I was trying to save money and just have the 4 as a hold over until tmobile finally gets an iPhone or I am out of contract. I have spoken with tmobile and apple support and it seems the unlock process was never completed on the phone. I am now having to call tmobile. This phone is NOT as described and I have no idea why. It was supposed to be a brand new unlocked iphone 4 and even on ebay...it was still $355.00. How wouldna brand new iphone unlocked iphone be locked to AT&T. I guess I will know more if I can get an answer from AT&T. What a mess. Thank you!

Last year iPhone 4s was announced Oct 4, and factory unlocked sales started Nov 11 (I ordered mine then and got it right before Thanksgiving). So I'd guess in a month or two, but who knows if they'll treat it differently given the multiple models for LTE.

You can find unlocked iphone 5's at any Retail Store. I've just got mine from the store by 5th avenue 3 days ago.

It made me serous with this problem as I spent too much money and I can not use it for callig or receiving
