HT1975 Location services on an iPod touch

If an iPod is purchased in Toronto and registers with a Toronto address but then used in another country will it still show the Toronto address in locations services ?

For location the iPod uses the location nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's data base. You do not have to be connect to the router.
Thus, if you bring your router with you when you are at home the iPod will show the old location until Apple updates theri database.
Apple continuously updates their database based on data it obtains from iPhones. No one has found a way to tell apple to correct/add a wifi router to their database.

  • The location service of my iPod touch has been stuck

I've an 4G 32GB iPod Touch, iOS 6 it have a problem, my location service has been stuck on Caracas, but I'm on a trip now, and when I conect it on a wifi network and try to get some directions it give me the location of my house in caracas, plz help.
    Greetings from venezuela.

Are you connecting to a public network or your own rrouter that you brought with you?
For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. Thus, it appears that the iPod can't see a nearby router that is in Apple's database. Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.
    If a public network
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset network settings: Settings>GeneraL>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • I don't see system services on my ipod touch 4g

Hello. I have an ipod touch 4g with iOS 6.1.3. Last week I tried to activate the traffic on maps, and I saw a message saying that I had to enable it on settings (my ipod is on Spanish, so the exact English text could not be as I wrote above). On settings -> privacy -> location -> system services, I only see 3 items:
    -iAds on location
    -time zone
-icon on status bar (at the bottom of system services, not together with the other 2)
I'd swear that I saw 1-2 months ago that there was many other settings (as I'be read on other messages from other users). Where did the other system services go? How could I restore them? I mean, without restoring the backup (the last one is very old)
    Thanks in advance. Sergio.

do you mean internet access ? if so, there are no additional charges. your Touch will either connect to the internet via your local network at home or via a wi-fi hotspot such as at starbucks.

  • How can i locate a lost/ missing ipod touch

Is there a app that can locate a missing/ lost ipod touch?

Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  This requires action before the device is lost/stolen.  If the device has significant personal information, it should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • Same apple id can locate iphone but not ipod touch

I have find my iphone installed on both devices, location services are on, wifi is on, icloud is on and find my iphone is on within icloud in settings, but I cannot locate the ipod touch only the iphone. Any ideas??

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
It's possible that Find my phone is using the cellular network to locate your phone and the wifi network they are both using is unregistered.

  • Is it possible to find the location on a lost ipod touch from my macbook?

Is it possible to locate a lost ipod touch from my Macbook?

Not unless you installed and activated fiond my iod on the ipod BEFORE it was lost AND it is on AND it is connected to wi-fi, THEN you may be able to get an approximate street address.
If it has facetime, then you could call it and listen for the ring.

I'm trying to change location settings but the whole thing is grayed out and I cannot make changes to any of it, cannot turn location services on or off, and cannot change individual settings for specific apps.  can anyone help?

I have accomplished everything mentioned.  Still unable to turn Location Services on.  It is grayed out and will not move.  I worked before when I tried it a few weeks ago, but not now.  Please help.

  • Location of backups for iPod touch

I apologize,  I should have been more specific .. when I right click on the device there is only one backup listed from March 2010 to restore from.  If the iPod is backed up every time before an update where are the other backups located, (if at all) or am I SOL?  Thanks in advance for all your help !!

Each subsequent backup overwites the old one.  You can try searching for old backups via the Finder, but if there aren't any listed, I'm afraid you are out of luck, unless you have had been using some sort of incremental backup solution for your Mac or PC in which case you could restore an old iPod backup from those backups.

  • Is there a way to locate my 2nd generation iPod touch?

It is possible that it was stolen, but also could be lost nearby. The battery would be dead by now if lost. There was no special find my phone or that type of software on it. It has so much personal information and original songs, memos etc that I am really upset at the thought of not getting it back. I am always so careful with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Only the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • Location Services not accurate!

So I'm using my iPod 4 as I would usually do and I go on to maps to see what hotels are near me so a relative can stay for a few weeks. My iPod old me I was in Ealing, London when I was in Wigan, Lancashire. It would have been ok if it told me I was in Manchester or something but this is over 200 miles away! I'm a bit doubtful of whether it is a problem with the iPod itself or not, however. Still, if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am so frustrated with the location service on my iPod-touch. It worked at home fine for the first few months from my wifi router but then suddenly it could 'not find my location'. Nothing was changed except perhaps updates from iTunes. It worked fine last week in Tenerife (it defaults to a place in Tenerife even though I am now home in Deveon!) and at my son's house some half mile away. I have searched the internet for an answer but there is plenty of querys about this subject but no solutions. Apple must be aware of this problem for a number of their customers, but there is absolutely no help from that direction - shame on them. If you try to contact them, they require payment before they will respond! Is there anyone out there (including Apple staff) who can give a simple and effective solution? lease help!

  • Need help with the "Location Services"

Hello, I haven't seen another topic about this so this is why I'm posting this.
Recently, I've been wanting to use some apps which use the Location Services(where they need your current location), but every time they try to use it, it either says "Your current location could not be determined" or just doesn't do anything.
    -I am using a 2g iPod touch 8GB
-I am connected to a WiFi network and can access the web
I read some guides on the apple website. One said that not all locations can be determined, so I'm not sure if I'm in one of those.
If you can help me with this, please post a reply. :]

Hi TheFungus: The basis of Location Services on the iPod Touch is a service called Skyhook. For skyhook to be effective it needs to locate to a wireless router that has been registered with their system. If your wireless router or others in the area aren't registered, it will have no way of knowing where you are located.
    Hope this helps

  • I lost my ipod touch and it is connected to the internet but the location services are turned off anyway i could turn them on??

Hi, I was wondering if anybody here knows how to turn on location services without the ipod in your hand it is connected through find my iphone and it says its online but location services are turned off if anybody here knows or think they know it would be greatly appreciated

    No.
    - If you previously turned on the FIndMyiPod feature and location service is on, and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud, sign in, and go to FindMyiPhone. It the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - Report to police and change the passwords fro all accounts used on the iPod.
    - Apple will not help
