HT200033 Where does Apple configurator 1.2.1 store copies of iOS files?

Just wondering where the default storage location is for iOS files downloaded via Apple Configurator 1.2.1.

I wanted to clarify a point or two but missed the 15-min cutoff.  The above statuses were displayed on the Supervise screen under the connected device for about 1 sec each with the exception of the "Decompressing iOS..." which was up for about 7-10 seconds before crashing.  Thinking it was pointing to a corrupt or missing .ipsw, I redownloaded the iOS software update from iTunes and even tried pointing to it on the "Prepare" screen.
Thanks.

  • Where does Apple Configurator store backups?

I'm trying to identify where Apple Configurator store the individual backups of iPads etc.
I've had a backup fail and I while I have deleted it from within AC I haven't gained any space back so would like to go and manually delete the backup.

How to import an iPad backup from one apple configurator to another
    1) connect a properly set up iPad to its source computer, and create a new backup, even if you already have one.
    2) open ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.configurator/Resources
those are the backups that have been made.  more may be listed here than in configurator. they are zip files of the backups
also found in mobilesync.  there should be one just created now.  that’s your backup.  (the ones in mobilesync are not usable)
    3) copy the newest one to removable storage and connect storage to the target computer
    4) attach an iPad that goes with the target computer to the target computer and make a backup there also.  name it as you want the backup you are importing.
    5) open that same folder on target computer and locate newest backup.
    6) copy file name, and rename the one on removable storage to that same name
    7) drop (replace) file on target computer
    8) select the backup you just created to be the restore image for that iPad
    9) you will have to click Restore to save.  it may not change anything on the iPad (do not be alarmed)
    10) check configurator prefs and make sure ‘restore when attached” and “restore default data” are both checked
    11) unplug and replug the iPad
it should definitely do a proper “Restoring Settings” now, and you will see the image has successfully been copied.  It can now be
selected as the restore image for any additional iPads on the target computer.
For some reason, manually clicking Refresh at the bottom doesn’t usually work right after replacing an image.
YMMV if there is significant differences between the two computers doing the configurator management.
(this is in answer to the question I was trying to find an answer for earlier, found it myself, hope this helps other admins)
    to free space, also look:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.config urator (contains TWO hidden firmware folders)
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup (MANY backups)

  • Where does iPhone configuration utility store data?

Where does iPhone configuration utility store profiles and other data on the system? I know you can export the individual profiles to back them up, but I would like to just backup the entire iPhone Configuration Utility storage location.

Thanks for the reply. It helped me get more information on where to find it on the Mac. Here's the location for the Mac if anyone else needs the information:
Your home folder > Library > MobileDevice
There are folders in the "MobileDevice" folder that contain data for iPhone Configuration Utility (configuration profiles, device information, etc.)

  • How does apple Configurator Backup App data? Or does it at all?

    Hello,
I use Apple Configurator at two schools. All of the iPads that the schools own are supervised via Apple Configurator.
How does the backup feature work in Apple Configurator? I know it backs up folders and photos and videos. But does it backup app data? And how?
I understand that apps themselves are not backed up. But if an iPad is completely wiped / restored via apple configurator / apps are put back on / then backup is restored.... when does the app data get re-applied (if it does at all?)
    Mac OS 10.9.4
    Apple Configurator Version 1.5 (424)
I know iTunes can backup and restore app data. My question is does Apple Configurator do it? And how / what is the best way?
    Thank you.

When you boot yoru iMac, if you hold down the option key, at the boot meny, do you have an option for "Network" booting  If so, then your machine didn't come with an install disc, it allows for internet restore form Apple servers (although it will need to perform the 4.7GB download if you use it).
If you run the Boot Camp Assistant, you should be presented with an option to download the windows support files from Apple servers.  For machines which didn't come with install/restore discs, this is the way to get the files you need.

Apple seems to use a wide source for their screen images...some were from NASA (such as Lion and Mountain Lion), some may have been photo pros.

  • HT5437 Why does apple configurator add numbers to my apple tv names?

I'm rolling out around 40-50 of the little black boxes across a school, and we've hit an interesting thing.  When we name the device in configurator, lets say
    SCH-TV-4.001
where 4.001 is a building and room number, apple configurator is making the name add a seemingly random digit in brackets at the end of the name like
    SCH-TV-4.001 (2)
This is only seen in our MDM and on an iOS/OSX device, when searching for an airplay device.
Most odd.  Seems to start at 2, and if we rebuild, it makes 3 etc...
    Any clues?

I understand that point. They are mostly bought from iTunes. But, I can watch on my laptop, iPad, iPhone on an airplane or wherever without an Internet connection. So why the hang up on my apple tv, should it not just be an extension of my laptop?

  • Where Does Apple TV Run From

    Australian Internet Provider iinet,
Says all content from itunes is not counted toward monthly download limit.
I asked if Apple TV was included, and there response was that anything downloaded from the link: http://www.apple.com/itunes/
    is included.
Does apple TV run off itunes?
    Thanks

Yes, but it's a bit simplistic saying AppleTv uses streams from 'iTunes'.
I doubt the servers that supply your purchases/rentals come from addresses starting www.apple.com/itunes, though even if named differently they may be closely related in terms of IP address.
Apple will have many oddly named servers in different countries supplying purchase/rented/preview content - I would hope your IP includes access to these as part of this.
I suspect this is a 'lay explanation', and you'd only find out in practice - they may simply be saying anything from apple's servers is ok, they may not and are deliberately being very specific.
Don't forget they might have some some smallprint that would affect this free usage such as throttling downloads if you use too much...

  • Does apple configurator affect ipod content

We have some ipods we have supervised with apple configurator for students and have removed all ways to connect except email. We now find students have videos they need to extract which are too big to  email. If we connect to the Macbook and refresh or restore the configuration settings will that delete the videos stored on the ipods?
    Thank you

There is an option in the preferences for Apple Configurator 1.4.3... open preferences and uncheck the boxes that say 'automatically refresh' and 'remove apps and profiles that Configurator did not install'.  Then you should be able to extract the information throgh the Mac by syncing the devices.  Make sure you don't restore or update the device, just download the data from it and it should be fine.
It may be worth looking into a WebDAV option for file sharing and collaboration.
For fututre reference, it may also be worth while looking up the 'Assign' function, as with this option you can assign iPads to students, so that it doesn't matter if they use the same iPad or not; their own data will be on it, once it is 'checked out' to them and then it is saved on the Mac through Configurator once sync'd again.
    I hope this helps.

  • Where does Camera Raw find custom WB info in a RAW file?

I'm using a custom WB preset on a Nikon D610.  When I open the RAW file in Lightroom or Camera Raw, I see WB = "As Shot" and I see Temp and Tint values that are CLEARLY custom values.  I am curious to know (a) where Nikon stores the WB information in a .NEF file, and how Adobe is able to find it.  Does anyone know which metadata tags hold the custom WB?  Thanks!

On my Nikon D610 I can be very specific about  WB by setting an X,Y coordinate pair in the "Choose color temp." screen:
This is the (x,y) coordinate pair that I mentioned in an earlier post. When I open the NEF file in Camera Raw, the temp and tint scales will show these values.  So the question remains: where does Adobe find this information in the NEF?
I understand that, except for "As Shot" all of the other choices Adobe gives you for White Balance will not correspond to any camera settings.  They will be Adobe's interpretation of what those values mean.  For example, "Auto" will mean what Adobe considers the best WB for your image, and it will be based on its analysis of the color data

  • Apple Configurator 1.2 - Taking forever to download iOS 6 software

So I just downloaded this update and I'm attempting to use it to sync up 22 iPads that I use in my classroom.  Prior to getting this update, when iPads were plugged in, I was getting an error that said "Can't install app."  Now that the update is installed, I've plugged in my iPads in an attempt to load apps, however, they now all say "Downloading iOS software."  They have said this for the better part of the past hour and don't seem to be progressing at all.  All of the iPads already had iOS 6 installed from the update released a few weeks ago.  Should it be taking as long as it is with seemingly no progress?
    Thanks

I called Support and they were able to resolve the issue. In my situation, I was escalated to a level 2 engineer who determined there was an issue with the .ipsw file.  The symptom was an empty directory at /Users/USER/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.configurator,
    How we solved this was
    1. open the iPad with iTunes
    2. Select "Restore" under Version on the Summary tab
    3. Closed iTunes
    4. Open configurator
    5. Navigate to settings
    6. Select "Other" for Settings
    7. Navigate to the .ipsw created by the restore in steps 2 (located in /Users/USER/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates
    8. Prepare device
After these steps, I am now able to use the configurator.  I did this on a single iPad, so I don't know if you have to do this for every iPad or only one. You will have to experiment.
NOTE: I was told there maybe a number of different issues that cause the same symptom, so performing these steps may not resolve your issue. I recommend you contact Support.

  • I need to download 10.7.0 (10.7.2 max), where does Apple keep earlier versions of OS?

i foolishly updated my MacPro and laptop to 10.7.3, but then discovered that it messed up some of my Pro apps like Nikon Capture NX2, which is only supposed to work on 10.7.2
i have been trying to find anyway to go back, and was informed that i had to erase and start from the OS that came with my mac
so i went back to 10.6.4, and have now updated to 10.6.8
then went to the App Store in order to update to 10.7.0, which i had already bought
but the App Store only offers me 10.7.3, and no earlier versions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    where can i get 10.7.0?
(i have the combo update which is available on the downloads of Apple website, but this is obviously no good without the base 10.7 already installed)
this appears to be a problem that Apple has created by not selling OS on discs anymore
    HELP!!!!

since i am at present on 10.6.8 surely i can update to 10.7.0 and then to 10.7.2?
i had already worked out that i could not go backwards from 10.7.3 when i went into an Apple store yesterday, so i am trying to go forward, but it seems quite odd that i can not upgrade to 10.7.2 ONLY since some apps do not work with 10.7.3
and i DID HAVE a backup iof 10.7.2 when i backed up, but once i was on that there did not seem to be a problem, so i updated my backup to 10.7.3 - are you saying that the backup should always be an OS step behind the master? (in which case what about all the new work that one does in between backups, there would be no backups of that at all!)
I have always made a habit of keeping system updates on external drives, just for my own OCD ways. I downloaded Lion 10.7 and have also kept the updates since. I also have backups of the last few system updates, but do get rid of them after I realise the newer updated backups are all I require.
So where did I learn about backups and saving updates? By reading Apple Media and coming to the forum here and elsewhere and reading up on it. The serious Computer user should really make a concerted effort to protect their data and system set ups in the most secure way they can. An $80 1TB backup drive can be the difference between smooth transitions and reinstalls and problems as you are experiencing now.
Just some food for thought for the future. There is more often than not no second chances for system and drive crashes. Protect your data at all costs.
    Good Luck
    Pete

  • Where does apple tv get my photos from

I wanted to stream photos but I don't understand where it loads them from.  There are 10 or 12 in the photo stream, seems to have picked just a few from my phone, but not all.  How does this work?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photos can come from your computer or from Photo Stream.

  • Where does Apple collect their Date & Time Information?

I'm trying to isolate a problem for why the date and time for Unalaska and Dutch Harbor, AK when set automatically is on Hawaii Time when it should be on Alaska Time.  The islands further west on the Aleutian Island Chain are on Hawaii Time, but not Unalaska Island.  While in Unalaska, I have to set date & time on all my Mac devices to manual, and switch it back to automatic whenever I leave.  As much as I travel, it is a nuisance having to switch back an forth between automatic and manual. This has been an ongoing problem for the past 2 or 3 years, and previously, it worked correctly.
I've noticed that some date/time websites have it wrong, but some have it correct.  So, if I can find out where Apple collects their Date & Time information, I should be able to figure out whether it's an "Apple" problem or an "ISP" problem.

A vehicle recall is to fix issues that the manufacturer feels they need to do something about such as bad parts.
Or the Government felt they needed to do something about.
