HT201066 Quicktime player 10.1 (Mac OS X LION) - how to adjust brightness / contrast ?

Hi, I'm probably being very very thick here, but how does one adjust basic video settings n the player ?
like brightness, contrast or colour, or maybe aspect ratio please ?
apologies if its obvious to everyone else
Mark

Hi dsimagry ..
I dont get that at all ! .. thats the most ridiculous thing i've heard all week.
I really dont get Apple's (or any OS vendor's) dumbing down.. glad i can
use another player, yes VLC is already my primary player in Linux & Mac
& Win, but i just reinstalled LION and was trying to not install too much junk
wondered how well the native apps worked ... i shall diss QT player 10.1 as a fail.
Cheers for the link to Quicktime 7 - and helping my puzzlement ...
Thank you
Mark

  • HT1338 Quicktime Player no longer plays under Mountain Lion

Quicktime Player no longer plays under Mountain Lion.  It loads, I can see the video but it does not move when clicked on to advance. It does move page by page mannually with the arrow buttons but does not play when clicked on the video advance button.

    Is this a known problem?
Yes, if you mean that the MOV file may contain data that is not supported by the QT X AV Foundation, Modernizer, and Convert 64-bit QT X structures embedded in the Mavericks and Yosemite operating systems but still supported by the 32-bit QT 7 structure still included in these operating systems and/or supported by the "open" codec configuration accessible by QT 7.
Has the format of mov files been changed?
I don't believe the file container format has changed but security updates and/or Mavericks/Yosemite codec support limitations may fail to recognize or support a particular file container/data compression format combination. Since you have not provided any information regarding the data actually contained in the MOV file, it is impossible to be more specific here. However, in most cases it is possible to use any of the available FFmpegX based transcoding utilities to manually convert unsupported data to file/compression combinations that are compatible with both QT X and QT 7 based apps under any current Mac OS X systems.

  • QUICKTIME PLAYER DOES NOT WORK IN MOUNTAIN LION 10.8.4?? IT LAGS WHENEVER I SPEAK IN MY MICROPHONE?

I recently updated my macbook pro to the new 10.8.4 update of apple, which i thought was pretty cool
But whenever i use Quicktime Player (The version of my Quicktime is 10.2) for recording with my Blue Yeti microphone, it starts to lag when i talk on screen and it started to annoy me A LOT! :/
Is it because of my Quicktime player version?
Please help, this has never happened before i updated my laptop!

Then I don't really know why it isn't working. What you might try is this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

Do you have Module level When-Window-Closed or Key-Exit triggers?  If yes, what is your code in these triggers?
If you only want to exit the form when the cursor is in the 3rd Data Block, you would check the :SYSTEM.CURSOR_BLOCK system variable in a When-Window-Closed to see if the cursor is in the 3rd block and call EXIT_FORM().
It would be very helpful to know what you are actually trying to accomplish...since performing this type of check may not be appropriate for what you are trying to accomplish.

You have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first or to perform a clean install of Lion after erasing the hard drive prior to the installation.

Turn the volume down before you shut down the MBair, the startup tone should be the same volume as when you shut down.

  • What is the 3rd party player that will open a windows media player on the MAC

What 3rd party player provides the ability to open .wmv file on a Mac? We have QuickTime Player but it does not recognize the file.

Thanks for responding Barney-15E. I did install the free version of Flip4Mac prior to sending my question out to the community. I still could not open the file. After I installed Flip4Mac a window opened stating QuickTime Player does not recognize the file. How do you make it go through Flip4Mac instead of QuickTime Player?

    Hello,
If you upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion you should be able to have the latest version of Quicktime installed which is version 10.2. However, this version might not run some older .mov files. Fortunately you can download Quicktime 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3+. This version was designed for all OS X versions that came after Snow Leopard 10.6.3, therefore it should work with no problem under OS X 10.8.1.
    Here's the link:
QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later
    Hope this helps!

PROBLEM RE-OPENING QUICKTIME PLAYER WINDOWS ON-MAC OSX 10.8
My 27 inch iMAC is Running OS X 10.8.  It came with QuickTime Player Version 10.2.
The problem is that when I attempt to "open" a Quicktime movie (.mov) I get a message that says "QUicktime quit unexpectedly.
Would you like to 'reopen' the windows and there is a ble button on which to click that say "reopen."  The alternative is to click on
"do not reopen."  Regardless of which button I click-on I get the SAME message, and am never able to open a QuickTime Movie.
Please, can anyone advise me how to remedy this problem.  Thank you.

  • IPhoto 6.06 won't send videos to Quicktime Player 10.1

    Good Morning,
iPhoto 6.06 on an iMac running 10.7.4.  Videos won't open in Quicktime Player 10.1 from iPhoto, but when I drag them to Quicktime they will opne and play.  I can't find any preferences in iPhoto to set what application is being used to play the videos.
What do I do next?  (aside from upgrade iPhoto, my grandma doesn't want to do that)
    Thanks,
    Phillip

You need to install Quicktime Player 7.  It can be done from the Lion install package via a custom install or from here: QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later

  • Why won't Quicktime Player open a .mov VR file ?

(I'm on a new MBP, with Yosemite 10.10.2, QT Player v.10.4)
Nothing opens except the app when I double click on a .mov file, the playback controls don't even come up.
This does not happen on all .mov files, but several VR files which were outputted to Quicktime.

I think I figured it out:
The new osx QT (with Mavericks and Yosemiteseems to be the issue (see http://osxdaily.com/2014/07/20/run-quicktime-player-7-in-mac-os-x/)
I downloaded the older Quicktime Player 7 and the files work perfectly

  • Playing MID(I) music files in QuickTime Player?

    Hello.
It looks like Apple removed MID(I) music file support to play back in its newer software versions like Mac OS X 10.8.5's iTunes and QuickTime Player. Even the latest VideoLAN Client Media Player can't play them. Is there a good free player software or an addon that can and use SoundFont files?
    Thank you in advance.

  • HT201066 Mountain Lion - QuickTime Player X -- What happened to the ability "to select what location (on your Mac) to save your screen recording when finished"

(It is also missing in the graphic which accompanies the text in this article:ht4024)
While the default behavior (file is saved locally in ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX/Data/Library/Autosave information/Unsaved QuickTime Player Document.qtpxcomposition) seems to work fine for users with mobile home directories, users with network home directories are unable to record on Mountain Lion machines.
I believe that by changing the default save location to a local writable space, we could avoid the issue, but the option to change the default save location seems to be missing.
